The purpose of this book, in its broadest sense, is to find meaning
in prayer. In a world where prayer has become void of soul, this
book attempts to fill that void. In the process, fundamental
thoughts that form the bedrock of Jewish intellectual theory are
discussed. This book also draws heavily from sources outside the
prayer book, in an attempt to present themes of Tefilla in a
sophisticated, scholarly manner while, at the same time,
transmitting wisdom in ways that are accessible and inspiring. With
this in mind, original texts and more popular works will be
presented throughout in an effort to synthesize intellect with
emotion, the mind with heart and soul. The varied themes which will
be presented in the book yield a work whose style has many
different voices.
A 'Sadhana' is an instrument that leads to a particular goal. In
Tantra, it is a technical term denoting worship or spiritual
practice. Tantra Sadhana is a collection of related instructional
papers designed to aid the aspirant through a foundation Sadhana.
Some say effective Sadhana requires an initiation (dekshe) from a
qualified guru. This book is designed to act as a taster and to
provide a short body of work suitable for the period of about one
lunar month. In addition, the author had added several useful
appendices - including the previously unpublished Tantrik Knuckle
Bone Oracle.
Goddess worship has long been a significant aspect of Hinduism. In
this book David Kinsley, author of "The Sword and the Flute--Kali
& Krsna: Dark Visions of the Terrible and the Sublime in Hindu
Mythology," sorts out the rich yet often chaotic history of Hindu
goddess worship.
