'Adrian has a unique gift for understanding drivers and racing
cars. He is ultra competitive but never forgets to have fun. An
immensely likeable man.' Damon Hill The world's foremost designer
in Formula One, Adrian Newey OBE is arguably one of Britain's
greatest engineers and this is his fascinating, powerful memoir.
How to Build a Car explores the story of Adrian's unrivalled
35-year career in Formula One through the prism of the cars he has
designed, the drivers he has worked alongside and the races in
which he's been involved. A true engineering genius, even in
adolescence Adrian's thoughts naturally emerged in shape and form -
he began sketching his own car designs at the age of 12 and took a
welding course in his school summer holidays. From his early career
in IndyCar racing and on to his unparalleled success in Formula
One, we learn in comprehensive, engaging and highly entertaining
detail how a car actually works. Adrian has designed for the likes
of Mario Andretti, Nigel Mansell, Alain Prost, Damon Hill, David
Coulthard, Mika Hakkinen, Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel, always
with a shark-like purity of purpose: to make the car go faster. And
while his career has been marked by unbelievable triumphs, there
have also been deep tragedies; most notably Ayrton Senna's death
during his time at Williams in 1994. Beautifully illustrated with
never-before-seen drawings, How to Build a Car encapsulates,
through Adrian's remarkable life story, precisely what makes
Formula One so thrilling - its potential for the total
synchronicity of man and machine, the perfect combination of style,
efficiency and speed.

Lewis Hamilton's explosive arrival on the Formula 1 scene has made
front-page headlines. In My Story, for the first time Lewis opens
up about his stunning debut season in grand prix racing, as well as
his dad Anthony, his home life and his early years. The only book
with the real story, as told by Lewis. In his first season in F1,
Lewis Hamilton thrilled the world of motor racing by finishing on
the podium in his first nine consecutive races - the first driver
to do so in the sport's 57-year history - and drove to victories in
Canada, America, Hungary and Japan. But bare statistics alone do
scant justice to the amazing impact Lewis Hamilton has had on the
sporting landscape. My Story gives the real account from Lewis
himself, as he sets the record straight about his colourful life on
and off the track. Given a grounded upbringing by his dedicated
father in unremarkable Stevenage, Lewis tells about how he first
tried out go-karting while on a cut-price family holiday in Ibiza.
In his book he gives the real version of events at a motor sport
dinner where, as a nine-year-old wearing a borrowed suit, he
approached McLaren team boss Ron Dennis with the immortal words
that were to change his life forever. He rose rapidly through the
Junior and Formula ranks, dominating every series with his raw
speed and canny race craft. Here Lewis candidly recalls those key
moments that shaped his career and went some way towards
compensating for the sacrifices made by his father Anthony in
getting his son to the top. Lewis also charts how he got into the
sport and was signed up by Ron Dennis, what motivates him, who are
his closest friends, how he copes with the constant travelling, and
the physical and mental challenges of driving a state-of-the-art
Formula 1 car. He looks back in detail at the 2007 World
Championship - the race wins, the frightening crash in Germany, his
intense rivalry with team-mate Fernando Alonso, his special
relationship with Ron Dennis, and the furore over the Ferrari
allegations - right up to the dramatic last race of the season in
Brazil.
Produced in conjunction with the Bentley Drivers Club and the W.O.
Bentley Memorial Foundation,100 Years of Bentley is a lavish
celebration of one of the most recognised and revered car brands in
history, from its earliest models right up to the modern day cars.
A six-times winner in the gruelling Le Mans 24-hour race, Bentley
is also the brand behind iconic cars such as the 41/2-Litre
'Blower', the R-type Continental, and modern classics such as the
Continental GT and Mulsanne. Featuring more than 200 pictures, many
from the club's archives and some never seen in print before, this
beautiful book details the whole history of Bentley. From W.O.
Bentley's early days as a railway engineer along with his first
attempts at modifying French DFP cars, to the company's earlyracing
exploits, including its victories in the early Le Mans races.
Covering the Bentley brand's revival in the 1980s and renewed
impetus when it was acquired by the Volkswagen group, the story is
brought up to date with the awesome new Bentleys built for the 21st
century and the new era of electrification just around the corner.
From a five-year-old girl racing 60mph micro-midgets in South
Africa, to a Formula One driver in the British Championship during
her first full year of racing in the UK, and on to becoming the
first and only woman ever to win a Formula One race, Desire Wilson
was a winner bested by very few of her male rivals. But
single-seater racing was just the start of Desire's ascent in
motorsport. She won two FIA World Championship Sports Car Endurance
races in 1980, and went on to compete in well over 120 types of
race car at more than 100 race tracks around the world. Always
competitive, she earned a reputation for an intense, no-nonsense
approach to racing, shrugging off the media glamour to focus on the
hard grind of staying competitive in one of the world's toughest
sporting arenas. Moving to the male-dominated world of North
American racing, Desire became a pioneer for women racing in the
harsh world of Indy Cars, facing discrimination, financial
problems, and other obstacles ranging from tragedy to farce. Her
career is unique in the world of racing, encompassing everything
from club racing to Formula One and World Championship sports cars,
to the evil monsters of the IndyCar World Series - the world's
fastest race cars. Hers is a story of hardships, fun, tragedy,
perseverance, injury, and the amazing behind-the-scenes world
masked by the public face and glamour of racing. It tells, too, of
the consequences of politics and discrimination in the male world
of professional auto racing.
Award-winning writer Richard Williams tells the remarkable story of
the 24 Hours of Le Mans, one of the world's most iconic motorsports
events, which celebrates its centenary in 2023. The event was
created by a group of Frenchmen in 1923 and remains uniquely
compelling to spectators, to the major motor manufacturers who
continue to see it as an opportunity for priceless publicity, as
well as to drivers hoping to add their names to its distinguished
roll of honour. Between the wars, those manufacturers included
Bugatti, Bentley and Alfa Romeo. Subsequently, Ferrari, Jaguar,
Mercedes, Aston Martin, Ford, Porsche, Audi and Toyota have all
been serial winners, guaranteeing the continuation of ferocious
inter-marque rivalry. Over the decades the race acquired a rich
folklore, including stories of leaking petrol tanks being sealed
with chewing gum, one competitor making his last pit-stop for a
fill-up and a glass of champagne, or the woman who drove her MG
through the night wearing a fur coat. Competitors have included
princes, debutantes, drug smugglers and a Nazi spy. Leading
Hollywood film-makers lured to the romance of the race include
Steve McQueen, who conceived and starred in Le Mans in 1971, and
James Mangold, who made Le Mans '66 in 2019. But in 1955 it had
also been the scene of the greatest tragedy ever to befall motor
racing, when 82 people were killed by a competing car, an accident
that for a while threatened the sport's entire future. From the
Bentley Boys of the 1920s, through record-breaking multiple winners
Jacky Ickx and Tom Kristensen to modern stars such as Allan McNish,
24 Hours celebrates the skill, courage and technical brilliance of
the men and women who gave the race its worldwide renown.
Celebrating 100 years of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, motorsport’s
iconic endurance race, technical illustrator Mick Hill takes us on
a potted history of this world-famous event. The follow-on book to
his successful Grand Prix’s Winning Colours, Mick once again
allows his signature artwork to take centre stage, presenting a
complete visual record of every winning car since the championship
began back in 1923. Including details of the cars’ drivers, as
well as interesting facts about each race, such as weather
conditions, distance covered and average speeds, Le Mans Winning
Colours is a book to treasure for all racing-car enthusiasts.

Reg May has put pen to paper to create a record of iconic and
historic races, including such classics as the 1955 Mille Miglia,
and the 1957 German Grand Prix - races that the author has heard
and read about since his childhood, and that have left a lasting
impression. With personal opinions, careful observations, and
measured reflections on motor racing in general, Reg has added his
own personal experiences of motor racing, and penned a volume that
excites as well as informs the reader. Reg injects his infectious
enthusiasm for the sport, whilst painting a vivid picture of each
event and its backdrop, Racing with Heroes captures the atmosphere
of these great races, immersing the reader in the action as history
is made.

'Glorious...gripping and sometimes tragic' Robbie Coltrane The
inspirational story of the Bentley Boys and Le Mans - the race they
made their own. Le Mans, 1927. W.O. Bentley peered into the dusk.
His three cars, which had led from the start, were missing. Two
years running he had failed to finish. Once again he was staring
into a void. Racing, his shareholders told him, was a waste of
money. This race looked like being his last. W.O's engineering
skills had been forged on the Great Northern railway and in the
skies of the First World War, where Bentley-powered Sopwith Camels
took the fight to Germany's Red Baron. Determined to build and race
his own cars, he assembled a crack team from all strata of 1920s
Britain, from East End boys Leslie Pennal and Wally Hassan to
multi-millionaires Woolf Barnato and Tim Birkin, men in search of
adventures to blaze their way out of the dark past. They dedicated
themselves to building the perfect road and racing car. In the
hayloft above their workshop, the first Bentley was born and soon
it was the car of choice for the fast-living upper classes. They
raced at the fashionable Brooklands circuit and then set their
sights on the fledgling 24 Hours Le Mans race. An audacious goal
for a British car, yet the Bentley Boys rose to the challenge. But
on that night in 1927, after the biggest crash in racing history
claimed their cars, could they still pull it off and put British
motor racing on the map? In the 1920s, Bentley Motors burned
brightly but all too briefly; yet its tale, filled with drama,
tragedy, determination and glory still shines a century on.

While the demonstrations of Spring 1968 all around the world were
not the playing field of DPPI's (Diffusion Presse Photo
International) photographers, the latter happily continued to
flourish in the extraordinary world of motor racing, the atmosphere
of which they captured to perfection. Their purpose was both to
translate into images impressions like the frightening average
speed per lap of 243 km/hr of the Belgian Grand Prix on the
Spa-Francorchamps track or the clearance, complete with major
skidding, of a snow-covered pass during the Monte-Carlo Rally, and
to serve as complicit witnesses to the mixture of tension and
freedom that inhabits these men and women of the racing world who
gathered each weekend to share triumph and tragedy. It comes as no
surprise that such a concentration of action and emotion made a
strong impression on the public and inspired brands and emerging
marketing services seeking new channels of communication. Text in
