Virtual Collaborative Writing in the Workplace: Computer-Mediated
Communication Technologies and Processes investigates the use of
computer-mediated communication technologies, including everything
from instant messaging and e-mail to interaction on Web pages,
Webcasts, and graphical user interfaces, to facilitate effective
interdependent collaboration in writing projects. This book focuses
on the type of writing that typically occurs in virtual workplace
settings, such as academic institutions, private and for-profit
industry, and the government, in which the purpose of the writing
is to convey information or argue a position rather than to
socialise or entertain. What makes this book stand out from others
like it is the fact that it was written collaboratively through the
use of Wikis and Google Docs and that it provides a meta-analysis
of the development process of the book from conception to
completion.
Containing papers presented at the 4th International Conference on
Building Information Modelling (BIM) in Design, Construction and
Operations, this volume brings together the research of experts
from industry, practice and academia. It describes innovative
solutions and predictions for future trends across key BIM-related
topics. The modern construction industry and built environment
disciplines have been transformed through the development of new
and innovative BIM tools and techniques. These have fundamentally
altered the manner in which construction teams operate; the
processes through which designs are evolved; and the relationships
between conceptual, detail, construction and life cycle stages. BIM
is essentially value-creating collaboration throughout the entire
life-cycle of an asset, underpinned by the data attached to them.
BIM has far and reaching consequences on both building procurement
and infrastructure. This recent emergence constitutes one of the
most exciting developments in the field of the Built Environment.
These advances have offered project teams multi-sensory
collaborative tools and opportunities for new communication
structures. The included papers cover such topics as: BIM and
sustainability; Advanced BIM platforms; BIM and automation in
construction; BIM and cultural heritage; Digital twin and
artificial intelligence for buildings and infrastructure.
This book contains an Open Access chapter The COVID-19 pandemic
disrupted economies and society globally. In addressing the crisis,
the Internet proved incredibly important in enabling many to shift
physical work, education, and social activities online and
facilitating the tracking of the progress of the pandemic. Beyond
the Pandemic? is the first edited collection to concentrate on the
dynamic and complex relationship between the Internet and the role
it played in responding to the pandemic. Covid-19 accelerated the
digital economy transformation, changing the way work, education,
and social engagement is organized, potentially permanently. The
collection of international scholars who contributed to this volume
offer insightful perspectives on how the Internet ecosystem
responded and was changed as a consequence of Covid-19; the
sectoral consequences of shifting activity online that the Internet
enabled for many, but not for all; and the implications for
regulatory policies. Given how central digital technologies are to
all aspects of business, society, and government, Beyond the
Pandemic? is integral to the exploration of the sectoral
consequences of the Internet for business managers, policymakers
and researchers engaged in planning and study for the digital
economy future and planning for future pandemics.
During the last decade, interoperability has emerged as a vivid
research area in electronic business and electronic governance,
promising a significant increase in productivity and efficiency of
information systems, enterprises and administrations.
Interoperability in Digital Public Services and Administration:
Bridging E-Government and E-Business provides the latest research
findings such as theoretical foundations, principles,
methodologies, architectures, technical frameworks, international
policy, standardization and case studies for the achievement of
interoperability within the provision of digital services, from
administration and businesses toward the user citizens and
enterprises.
Social media shapes the ways in which we communicate, think about
friends, and hear about news and current events. It also affects
how users think of themselves, their communities, and their place
in the world. This book examines the tremendous impact of social
media on daily life. When the Internet became mainstream in the
early 2000s, everything changed. Now that social media is fully
entrenched in daily life, contemporary society has shifted again in
how we communicate, behave as consumers, seek out and enjoy
entertainment, and express ourselves. Every one of the new
applications of social media presents us with a new way of thinking
about the economy that supports technological development and
communication content and offers new models that challenge us to
think about the economic impact of communication in the 21st
century. The Social Media Revolution examines the tremendous
influence of social media on how we make meaning of our place in
the world. The book emphasizes the economic impacts of how we use
the Internet and World Wide Web to exchange information, enabling
readers to see how social media has taken root and challenged
previous media industries, laws, policies, and social practices.
Each entry in this useful reference serves to document the history,
impact, and criticism of every subject and shows how social media
has become a primary tool of the 21st-century world—one that not
only contributes to our everyday life and social practices but also
affects the future of business. The coverage of topics is extremely
broad, ranging from economic models and concepts relevant to social
media, such as e-commerce, crowdfunding, the use of cyber currency,
and the impact of freeware; to key technologies and devices like
Android and Apple iOS, apps, the cloud, streaming, and smartphones
and tablets; to major entrepreneurs, inventors, and subjects of
social media, such as Julian Assange, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs,
Marissa Mayer, Edward Snowden, Steve Wozniak, and Mark Zuckerberg.
