Reform, by definition, is not a complete break with tradition, but
a determination by scholars, activists, politicians and critical
thinkers to re-claim the tenets of their faith. Muslim communities
have historically displayed a tendency to preserve the status quo.
By contrast, the individuals and movements in Islam and the
Question of Reform are determined-often at great personal risk-to
push aside existing political and social elites and the
historically accepted interpretations of Islam and its place in
society. The perspectives examined in this volume avoid superficial
or apologetic examinations of Islam's political and social role.
Instead, they meticulously scrutinise the religion's public role,
often questioning the validity of dogmas that have acted as tools
of empowerment for existing elites for centuries.
This student book combines clear and comprehensive coverage of the
Eduqas specification and features designed to help students develop
essential exam skills. Authored by experienced teacher, examiner
and CPD presenter, Clare Lloyd, the book provides focused coverage
of the study of Christianity and Islam, and themes through the
perspective of those religions. Essential content is covered in an
accessible and easy to follow format, with commentaries to help
explain and give context to sources of wisdom. 'Knowledge recall'
and 'Evaluation practice' activities offer regular opportunities
for students to retrieve and apply their knowledge. Dedicated
skills practice pages packed with exam guidance, questions and
exemplars show students how to structure and improve their answers.
These include helpful hints and annotated responses to the (d)
questions, to help students master key evaluation skills. With an
introduction that talks students through what they can expect in
their Eduqas exam paper, and supported by an ebook and digital
resources on Kerboodle, this course offers a succinct, targeted and
complete approach to confidently prepare students for their exams.
The Western world often fears many aspects of Islam, without the
knowledge to move forward. On the other hand, there are sustained
and complex debates within Islam about how to live in the modern
world with faith. Alison Scott-Baumann and Sariya
Contractor-Cheruvallil here propose solutions to both dilemmas,
with a particular emphasis on the role of women. Challenging
existing beliefs about Islam in Britain, this book offers a
paradigm shift based on research conducted over 15 years. The
educational needs within several groups of British Muslims were
explored, resulting in the need to offer critical analysis of the
provision for the study of classical Islamic Theology in Britain.
Islamic Education in Britain responds to the dissatisfaction among
many young Muslim men and women with the theological/secular split,
and their desire for courses that provide combinations of these two
strands of their lived experience as Muslim British citizens.
Grounded in empirical research, the authors reach beyond the
meta-narratives of secularization and orientalism to demonstrate
the importance of the teaching and learning of classical Islamic
studies for the promotion of reasoned dialogue, interfaith and
intercultural understanding in pluralist British society.
The Compassionate (ar-Rahman), the Holy (al-Quddus), the Source of

that knowledge of Allah's Beautiful Names is the greatest knowledge
a human being can possess.;This illustrated guide to the Names is
designed to be an engaging educational resource for all the family.
For children it is a rich treasury of wonder that will reveal
greater depths as they grow and mature, whilst for parents and
teachers it will offer much to inspire, inform, and remind. Richly
illustrated and accompanied by engaging reflections and activities,

Majesty and Beauty.
