Survival Theory is a gritty, hard-hitting book written by a US Army
infantryman with two decades of experience in combat zones and
disaster areas around the globe. Unlike the majority of survival
and prepper manuals that assume you are a lone beginner or have
minimal knowledge of basic survival craft, Survival Theory presumes
your skill level is anywhere from beginner through advanced and
that you could be a lone survivalist or member of a prepper
community. Survival Theory is distinct from the ordinary
step-by-step manuals readers have become familiar with, because the
book is a collection of essays and personal studies that challenge
your preconceptions and analyzes the genuine brutal nature of who,
what, when, where, and why of what to do when civilization fails,
without wasting too much time on step-by-step information you can
already find elsewhere. The author was a professional infantryman
with 6 1/2 years of instructor experience training three branches
of the US military and DoD civilians, served in 3 combat zones as
an infantry NCO, served in various multinational units in joint
operations, and worked in VIP personnel security/law enforcement,
counter-intelligence, intelligence gathering, detainee operations,
evidence exploitation, counter-insurgency, disaster relief
operations, counter-terrorism, physical security, and emergency
managemen
Outdoors Guy L.O.L. is an introduction to the Outdoors and features
articles on the subjects of Camping, Fishing, and Survival. It
covers a wide variety of topics. It is intended to give the reader
extensive, PRACTICAL and immediately useable knowledge, strategies
and techniques. It focuses on safety, pro-active planning with a
view to prevention of emergency situations which could have been
avoided, and information about how to respond in a prepared,
informed, and confident manner should outdoors challenges arise.
Part of the practicality of the book concerns the ability to
improvise- how to use what the environment has to offer in creating
shelters, choosing sites which offer advantages for setting up
emergency camps, and how to use simple materials to create tools
for use in cooking, gathering water, weather-proofing shelters,
keeping warm, crafting furniture and setting up complete campsites
with improvised materials. Hiking and canoe trips are highlighted
with advice on preparation and intelligent balancing of weight and
available space. Advice for care and storage of camping equipment
is included. The major focus for Camping is Improvisation- how to
create what you need. The book is not intended for campers who use
large Campers and mobile homes. It definitely leans towards campers
who "rough it" in the wild. Thus 3 articles give suggestions for
how to improvise, followed by how to scavenge for materials that
can be used in a variety of situations and practical ways- to how
to set up an entire camp (if need be) with scavenged materials- to
completely "furnish" a camp with a makeshift stove, washing
machine, cooler, shower, heater, bed, chairs/benches, and storage.
The Fishing section offers information and strategies for choosing
equipment and lures, explains seasonal movements of fish and
structure/cover they relate to (where to find fish depending on
time of day and season), techniques used for pike, walleyes, Small
and Large Mouth Bass, Stream Trout, Carp, Salmon, Rainbow and Brown
Trout during migration, Panfish. Practical advice for Tackle Care
is outlined in one article. There is a special article on Ice
Fishing which features preparation and safety considerations and
precautions which must be taken given extreme weather. Extensive
information is given regarding rods, reels, line, and terminal
tackle appropriate to each species of fish and a wide variety of
specific fishing situations. There is a detailed description of
fly-fishing and Bait Casting. This section covers broad spectrum of
species, specialized techniques, equipment, and numerous tips to
improve fishing success. The Survival section addresses mental and
emotional aspects of Survival necessary to maintain clear thinking-
essential to any survival situation. It outlines essential steps
which every traveler MUST take to be pro-active. The section
outlines strategies which have to happen to assess, prioritize,
plan, set immediate and longer range goals for survival. The next
section involves essential gear. The following articles show how to
use simple materials to set up a shelter, gather and purify water,
create fire, keep warm, navigate using Sun, Moon, and Stars,
Signal, and Communicate. There is considerable information on how
to plan and pack for longer hikes and journeys. The book
prioritizes safety and gives suggestions for handling injuries and
managing scenes. The emphasis is always on safety first. There are
articles on snow shelters, canoe shelters, and numerous uses for
tarps- from shelters to lean-to's to shades, to improvised sleeping
bags. Suggestions are given for keeping warm, dry, hydrated,
protected from insects, sun and heat exhaustion, cold, wind, rain.
*There are illustrations throughout the book to show how to use
found materials, fishing equipment, and natural materials
effectively. The book ends with a Personal note on my own outdoors
experiences and the valuable lessons I've learned from them. Photos
are included.

This book is the sixth in a series of books written by Jake
Bussolini. It is the last in his series of books that blend the
science of fishing with the sport of fishing. This book is directed
at the experienced angler and covers a broad range of subjects that
the author feels he has not thoroughly covered in his previous
books. The first half of this book covers some of the more complex
questions about fish health, growth, population and nutrition. Then
the subject of Sonar image interpretations are re-visited, going
deep into the understanding of what screen images really mean. The
author also covers less complicated subjects like the strike zone,
using sound to catch fish, selecting the right bait or lure
including a look at the author's ten favorite lures. The second
half of the book describes several of the fishing experiences of
the author including lessons learned from these experiences. The
book ends with some brief coverage of filleting your fish, stepping
up your equipment and a broad description of the responsibilities
of every experienced angler.
Join Warren as he takes us to Alaska beyond the city lights. In the
Bering Sea aboard Japanese and Korean fishing boats he discovers
cultural differences that make a seemingly mundane job into a real
learning experience. When the Korean Captain asks him to repair an
officer's severed finger, he learns how different things can be.
Canoeing trips on wild rivers in interior Alaska give him a swim in
waters barely above freezing and the necessity to do everything
right the first time simply to preserve his life. An attacking bear
doesn't leave any room for errors. Groceries aren't always found on
shelves; in Alaska much of the table fare comes from the wild.
Warren takes us on hunting trips that rarely turn out as expected.
Warren shares life with us a few others live it.

"The Bushcraft Handbooks" were first published in Australia in
1952. Based on the Author's wartime service in Australia and New
Guinea teaching "Junglecraft" to Australian and American forces,
they are distilled, concentrated old-time bushcraft knowledge,
presented in a very easy to assimilate format. For those who
remember them, the Bushcraft Handbooks are also a heavy hit of
nostalgia. Rather than publish all of the volumes under the one
cover, the Author originally chose to publish each aspect of
bushcraft in its own individual handbook. His rationale was that
the reader was more inclined to take a 50 page handbook with him
into the wilds than a 400 page book. The former can be easily
slipped into a pocket or daypack, while the latter cannot. The
Bushcraft Handbooks are useless unless the reader practices the
skills the books were designed to impart. The individual handbooks
format was chosen to support that end. Out of print for decades,
and in keeping with the Author's wishes, this series of Bushcraft
Handbooks are reproduced as close to their original format as
possible. The series comprises the following volumes: Bush
Ropemaking, Bush Hutmaking, Traps & Snares, Bush Campcraft,
Time & Direction, Travel & Gear, Food & Water in the
Bush, Firemaking & Lighting, Trapping & Tracks, Knots &
Lashings. From the introduction to "Firemaking & Lighting" "The
ability to obtain fire is essential in the bush. Fire can provide
warmth, comfort, and protection. It is essential for the
preparation of food, because heat in one form or another chemically
affects the cells of plant foods, making some yield their
nourishment, and others release their toxic elements. Fire enables
man to cook flesh and also to preserve it by smoking or drying.
Fire is essential to make polluted water safe and drinkable. The
ability to obtain fire under any conditions, provided that
combustible material is available, is one of the first essentials
in out-of-door living. The confidence which follows when one
masters the skill of lighting fire with no equipment is remarkable.
Making fire by friction and other means is not easy, but when the
skill has been mastered, the person acquiring the skill acquires
greater knowledge of himself and greater confidence in his ability
to overcome obstacles, both valuable characteristics in all avenues
of life. The ability to make fire under almost any condition is
essential to the bushman."
A 676 page quality reprint of the U.S. Army's Survival Guide. It
covers virtually all scenarios and the methods required to survive
them. A must read for military, and also civilians, who may find
themselves at-risk out in the elements in any part of the world.
Preface: As a soldier, you can be sent to any area of the world. It
may be in a temperate, tropical, arctic, or subarctic region. You
expect to have all your personal equipment and your unit members
with you wherever you go. However, there is no guarantee it will be
so. You could find yourself alone in a remote area- possibly enemy
territory-with little or no personal gear. This manual provides
information and describes basic techniques that will enable you to
survive and return alive should you find yourself in such a
situation. If you are a trainer, use this information as a base on
which to build survival training. You know the areas to which your
unit is likely to deploy, the means by which it will travel, and
the territory through which it will travel. Read what this manual
says about survival in those particular areas and find out all you
can about those areas. Read other books on survival. Develop a
survival-training program that will enable your unit members to
meet any survival situation they may face. It can make the
difference between life and death. The proponent of this
publication is the United States Army John F. Kennedy Special
Warfare Center and School (USAJFKSWCS). Submit comments and
recommended changes to Commander, USAJFKSWCS, ATTN: AOJK-DT-SF,

otherwise, masculine nouns and pronouns do not refer exclusively to
men.
Severe weather season is upon us... Are you ready? Disaster
Planning Made Easy by Marty Augustine will give you the information
you need to protect you and your family when severe weather
strikes. Direct, and to the point, this book covers the basics of
emergency planning without the hype. Severe weather threats and
other natural and man-made hazards are covered as well as
information on fire safety and crime prevention. You'll also learn
what you'll need to create an emergency supply kit and simple ways
you can improve your personal safety plan. Disaster Planning Made
Easy is a "must-have" book for every home.
An effective marksmanship program can be measured by the unit's
ability to put effective fire on a target. This chapter provides a
proven strategy for establishing and conducting an effective rifle
marksmanship training program. The strategy begins with the
progressive individual training periods taught during initial entry
training (IET) and culminates with advanced rifle marksmanship
(ARM) skills. Refresher training is conducted only when necessary.
A Soldier's marksmanship proficiency depends on proper training and
application of the basic marksmanship fundamentals. During initial
marksmanship training, emphasis is placed on learning the firing
fundamentals, which are taught in four phases-preliminary
marksmanship instruction (PMI), downrange feedback, field firing,
and advanced firing exercises. This prepares Soldiers for advanced
optic and laser training for combat-type collective exercises and
real-world deployments.
