The pigments are ground with an inert, non-siccative binding medium that does not oxidise and that has no effect upon either film stability or surface. This base is then mixed with wax (neutral pH). The Conté Sanguine Medici Pencil is the darkest of the Conté "Sanguine" pencils. The Medici Pencil and has a the least red oxide of the pencils in the range. It has similar properties to the other "Sanguine" pencils in that with a sharpened lead the drawing is accurate and the colour is transparent but will deepen as pressure is applied with a worn lead.

Clairefontaine Ingres is a laid paper, which means that the surface of each sheet has a faintly ribbed texture, perfect for holding graphite and soft pastel colour. This surface is characteristic of the traditional hand-made papers of the pre-Industrial age, which were formed in sieve-like moulds of wire mesh which left impressions on the surface of the paper.This sheet is made of cotton and is naturally acid-free. It measures 50x65cm and is of the following colour: Grey.

Daler-Rowney Perfix Colourless Fixative is an excellent quality fixative spray that fixes charcoal and pastels. It sprays evenly with a minimal effect on tonal values and is easy to use. Lay your drawing flat and holding the can about 30cm away, spray back and forth across the drawing ensuring even coverage over the surface.

It dries quickly to prevent smudging and, once dry, it's completely colourless so you can continue working on top of it.

High quality drawing paper from Fabriano. 160g/m2, high rag content, acid-free, pH neutral and with high archival permanence. 36 lightfast colours. Grainy, rough paper which is neutrally sized. Very good pigment uptake and therefore best suited to soft and oil pastel but also for pencil, grey and brown chalk, gouache and acrylic.

Conte crayons with their 6x6mm cross-section offer a range of 84 colours, 14 tones of which are specifically designed for sketching. Our Soft Pastels are made carefully by hand which makes them very soft with a smooth, buttery consistency. They have a low binder to pigment ratio which makes them rich and luminous, allowing for both subtle and bold mark making.
