The Sennelier oil pastel is a product that makes use of the components used in all Sennelier colours: top quality pigments, an extremely pure synthetic binding medium and mineral wax. The pigments are ground with an inert, non-siccative binding medium that does not oxidise and that has no effect upon either film stability or surface. This base is then mixed with wax (neutral pH). The balance of this mix provides Sennelier oil pastels with a unique unctuousness and a creamy texture that allows for a great deal of freedom in pictorial expression.
This compact set is a collaboration between Unison Pastels and the Belfast-based artist wildlife artist Emma Colbert. It includes 16 half sticks which will enable you to paint many types of animal. Row 1 has an important selection of light shades, vital for highlights and reflected colours in white animals. Row 2 provides cool shadow tones and useful blues for painting the highlights on darker coats. Rows 3 and 4 give you a range of warm tones from light to dark including some of Emma's most commonly used brown shades. With this small set you should have a good combination of colours to use directly or layer together to create many coat types.
Pitt artists' pastel pencils, with their oil-free pastel leads, are used by artists not only as the perfect complement to pastel crayons for elaborating fine details, but also on their own. Many artists who enjoy pastel techniques and their versatility, but not the dirty hands and coloured dust that accompany them, have opted to use these special pencils. Pitt pastel pencils have a very compact lead which is economical to use. The lead contains a high level of pigment, making the pencils ideally suited both to drawing lines and shading, as well as blending and merging into delicate colour transitions. The colour selection in this range places a particular emphasis on the muted shades and earth tones that are especially important for pastel drawing.
