This book constitutes the proceedings of the 13th IFIP TC 8 International Conference on Computer Information Systems and Industrial Management, CISIM 2014, held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, in November 2014. The 60 paper presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 98 submissions. They are organized in topical sections named: algorithms; biometrics and biometrics applications; data analysis and information retrieval; industrial management and other applications; modelling and optimization; networking; pattern recognition and image processing; and various aspects of computer security.
Machine learning is an interdisciplinary field of science and engineering that studies mathematical theories and practical applications of systems that learn. This book introduces theories, methods and applications of density ratio estimation, which is a newly emerging paradigm in the machine learning community. Various machine learning problems such as non-stationarity adaptation, outlier detection, dimensionality reduction, independent component analysis, clustering, classification and conditional density estimation can be systematically solved via the estimation of probability density ratios. The authors offer a comprehensive introduction of various density ratio estimators including methods via density estimation, moment matching, probabilistic classification, density fitting and density ratio fitting, as well as describing how these can be applied to machine learning. The book provides mathematical theories for density ratio estimation including parametric and non-parametric convergence analysis and numerical stability analysis to complete the first and definitive treatment of the entire framework of density ratio estimation in machine learning.
The three volume set LNCS 8226, LNCS 8227 and LNCS 8228 constitutes the proceedings of the 20th International Conference on Neural Information Processing, ICONIP 2013, held in Daegu, Korea, in November 2013. The 180 full and 75 poster papers presented together with 4 extended abstracts were carefully reviewed and selected from numerous submissions. These papers cover all major topics of theoretical research, empirical study and applications of neural information processing research. The specific topics covered are as follows: cognitive science and artificial intelligence; learning theory, algorithms and architectures; computational neuroscience and brain imaging; vision, speech and signal processing; control, robotics and hardware technologies and novel approaches and applications.
T. Vieville: A Few Steps Towards 3D Active Vision appears as Vol. 33 in the "Springer Series in Information Sciences." A specific problem in the field of active vision is analyzed, namely how suitable is it to explicitly use 3D visual cues in a reactive visual task? The author has collected a set of studies on this subject and has used these experimental and theoretical developments to propose a synthetic view on the problem, completed by some specific experiments. With this book scientists and graduate students will have a complete set of methods, algorithms, and experiments to introduce 3D visual cues in active visual perception mechanisms, e.g. autocalibration of visual sensors on robotic heads and mobile robots. Analogies with biological visual systems provide an easy introduction to this subject."
Cameras for 3D depth imaging, using either time-of-flight (ToF) or structured light sensors, have received a lot of attention recently and have been improved considerably over the last few years. The present techniques make full-range 3D data available at video frame rates, and thus pave the way for a much broader application of 3D vision systems. A series of workshops have closely followed the developments within ToF imaging over the years. Today, depth imaging workshops can be found at every major computer vision conference. The papers presented in this volume stem from a seminar on Time-of-Flight Imaging held at Schloss Dagstuhl in October 2012. They cover all aspects of ToF depth imaging, from sensors and basic foundations, to algorithms for low level processing, to important applications that exploit depth imaging. In addition, this book contains the proceedings of a workshop on Imaging New Modalities, which was held at the German Conference on Pattern Recognition in Saarbrucken, Germany, in September 2013. A state-of-the-art report on the Kinect sensor and its applications is followed by two reports on local and global ToF motion compensation and a novel depth capture system using a plenoptic multi-lens multi-focus camera sensor."
The world of the twenty-?rst century is, more than ever, global and impersonal. Criminal and terrorist threats, both physical and on the Internet, increase by the day. The demand for better methods of identi?cation is growing, not only in companies and organizations, but also in the world at large. Identity management is put under pressure, due to the growing number of frauds who want to hide their true identity. Identity management challenges the information security research community to focus on interdisciplinary and holistic approaches while retaining the bene?ts of previous research e?orts. As part of this tendency, surveillance and monitoring are more prominently present in society, both in the public and private domain. The original intention being to contribute to security and safety, surveillance and monitoring might, in some cases, have unintended or even contradictory e?ects. Besides, the - nipresence of surveillance and monitoring systems might be at daggers drawn with public and democratic liberties. In this context, IFIP (International Federation for Information Processing) Working Group 11.6 on Identity Management organized its second working c- ferenceonPoliciesandResearchinIdentityManagement(IDMAN2010)inOslo, Norway, November 18-19, 2010. Papers o?ering research contributions focusing on identity management in general and surveillance and monitoring in parti- lar were solicited for submission. The two-volume set LNCS 8297 and LNCS 8298 constitutes the proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Swarm, Evolutionary and Memetic Computing, SEMCCO 2013, held in Chennai, India, in December 2013. The total of 123 papers presented in this volume was carefully reviewed and selected for inclusion in the proceedings. They cover cutting-edge research on swarm, evolutionary and memetic computing, neural and fuzzy computing and its application.

Research in the field of pattern recognition both in theo retical terms and in the area of appl ication continues to flourish. Pattern recognition is a fairly diverse field involving researchers whose primary disciplines spread over at least a half dozen fields. Possibly because of the great diversity of backgrounds but a common interest in certain broad areas of application, the field has grown so rapidly and yet seems to promise at least a similar growth rate for the future. This book is a collection containing some of the papers that were presented at the N. A. T. O. Advanced Study Institute held in Bandol, France, September 1975. The main purpose of the institute was to present material which would provide a basic background in the field. Thus, survey papers covering syntactic methods, picture processing, classification theory, and speech recognition were presented. This should have provided the listener (and we hope now, the reader) with an acquaintance with the basic tools, a look at some of the appl ications and an appraisal of how each of the particular topics will evolve. A more recent addition to the pattern recognition "family" is the work in the areas of economics and group choice. Since the process of recognizing and inter preting patterns is so fundamental, it probably is no surprise when a particular discipline is discovered to be amenable to the already developed techniques."
