Neuroendovascular and neurointerventional therapy is a specialty
where disseminating personal knowledge and expert opinion is
extremely important, owing to the lack of large-scale clinical
trials. The management of complications that occur during or
immediately after therapeutic interventions is particularly
challenging because these can significantly affect patient
outcomes. This book presents how various complication scenarios are
handled by well-qualified authorities in the field of
neurointervention from three disciplines: neurology, neurosurgery,
and neuroradiology. Contributors describe their management of these
complications, focusing on the common principles that all the
specialists agree on, and give tips and tricks for 'bailout'
procedures to help get the practitioner out of trouble. The book is
well illustrated and covers the full range of neuroendovascular and
neurointerventional procedures. The book will appeal to
neurointerventionists, neuroradiologists, stroke physicians,
neurosurgeons and vascular surgeons for its practical approach to
managing these commonly encountered problems.

Your purchase of this book is the first step in having a confident
and clear understanding of the cosmetic surgery you may be
considering. The questions, expectations and recommendations
contained in this book will be vital to your outcome. This book
will give insight into the realities of cosmetic surgery, reasons
you may or may not choose to have surgery at all and secrets for a
successful recovery. The decision to have cosmetic surgery is a
serious one and should not be made hastily. Review this book a
number of times. Highlight sections or dog-ear pages and take this
along to your consultation so you can remember all the questions
you want to ask your surgeon. Remember, the more information you
have, the more prepared both you and your surgeon will be prior to
surgery. Every year, half a million people who are interested in
improving the appearance of their noses seek consultation with
facial plastic surgeons. Some are unhappy with the noses they were
born with, and some with the way aging has changed their nose. For
others, an injury may have distorted the nose, or the goal may be
improved breathing. But one fact is clear: Nothing has a greater
impact on how a person looks than the size and shape of the nose.
Because the nose is the most defining characteristic of the face,
even a slight alteration can greatly improve one's appearance. The
definition of rhinoplasty is, literally, reshaping the nose. The
etymology of the English word of rhinoplasty is derived from the
greek prefix rhino meaning nose, and plasty defined as a surgical
procedure for the repair or restoration of a body part. If you have
wondered how nose surgery, or rhinoplasty, could improve your
looks, self-confidence, or health, you need to know how rhinoplasty
is performed and what you can expect. No book can allay all your
concerns, but this one can provide answers for many of the
questions you may have. Successful facial plastic surgery is a
result of good rapport between patient and surgeon. Trust, based on
realistic expectations and exacting medical expertise, develops in
the consulting stages before surgery. Your surgeon can answer, and
should be willing to, specific questions about your unique needs.

As a plastic surgeon, I have spent countless hours speaking to
women about the various pros and cons of cosmetic breast surgery,
the different options available and the right procedure to obtain
the results desired. Just as every patient and every breast is
different from the next, the proper procedure will likely be
different as well. It has, for many years, been my pleasure to
experience the look of joy on a woman's face when the right
procedure and the right implant come together to create the perfect
look for her. While I can't condense all of the experience and
knowledge I have culled over the years into a book of this size,
what I do hope is that many of the questions you have about your
upcoming cosmetic breast surgery will be answered in a way that you
find valuable.
This is an inspiring book which contains a compilation of women's
stories who have triumphed though a diagnosis of breast cancer and
who have had breast reconstruction. Their beautiful results are
depicted in photos taken by Scott Walz. The book was written to
raise awareness of the importance of breast reconstruction in
breast cancer patients. The "Pearls" section describes how and why
different methods of breast reconstruction are used to reconstruct
an aesthetically pleasing breast with minimal downtime.
The Essential Burn Unit Handbook is a pocket-sized reference
dedicated to the evaluation, diagnosis, care, and treatment of burn
patients. It covers the spectrum of burn care, from initial
assessment and treatment to long-term sequelae. This second edition
includes an added chapter on the criteria for admissions to a burn
unit as well as outpatient and follow-up care. It covers a wealth
of topics that surgical residents, emergency medicine residents,
and critical care fellows often encounter such as patient
nutrition, the use of antibiotics, wound care, and some of the
unique pathologic conditions seen in this distinct and often
critically injured population. The book covers electrical burns,
inhalation injury, chemical burns, and pediatric patient
management. It also presents a full range of day-to-day management
modalities along with sample orders and templates for patient
presentation and the organization of notes. A quick-reference
glossary includes many of the acronyms and abbreviations used in
this setting as well as a list of useful equations and ranges. This
book will help you provide better patient care while shortening
your learning curve. It stands alone as the most convenient,
practical, and informative guide available today for those working
with burn patients.
Being in the field of medicine and plastic surgery, I have realised
just having knowledge and skills are not enough to be a successful
plastic surgeon; you need to be a general surgeon, a doctor, and
most importantly, a compassionate human being to be successful. You
also need to be a good administrator, leader, businessman, and
politician. You need to be a good teacher to continue the legacy.
This is what I am striving to accomplish. My wish is that I will be
able to follow my profession with dignity, sincerity, ethically and
legally, and to teach the youngsters to do the same. This book is
about a great discipline that is called plastic surgery. It is an
intensely personal subject that causes a great deal of debate,
often very emotional. More than any other branch of medicine, it is
also surrounded by a dense, almost impenetrable fog of rumor,
myths, and misconceptions. This book will educate you to understand
what goes behind the scene. Not only that, but everything you need
to know about the plastic and cosmetic surgery from choosing the
right surgeon to avoiding disasters and getting the treatment you
really need is here in the book.
State-of-the-art PRP and microneedling aesthetic procedures from
internationally renowned experts Platelet rich plasma (PRP) and
microneedling are two increasingly popular off-label modalities
intended to harness the body's self-rejuvenation and repair
abilities. PRP and Microneedling in Aesthetic Medicine is the most
comprehensive, clinically informed resource available today on
these two techniques. Internationally renowned, minimally invasive
facial aesthetics experts Amelia K. Hausauer, Derek H. Jones, and a
cadre of esteemed contributors have written the definitive guide on
this topic. Readers will learn how to evaluate and critically
appraise various approaches and leverage evidence-based methods to
guide best practices. Divided into three parts, the first chapters
on PRP and microneedling lay a solid foundation, covering basic
science, mechanism of action, preparation, and practical
considerations. Each chapter includes in-depth discussion,
technical pearls, and practical tips for incorporating specific
techniques into clinical practice. Part three focuses on special
topics including applications and safety in skin of color,
combination therapies, and managing complications. Key Highlights

The increasing popularity of cosmetic procedures brings both good
news and bad news for you as a potential patient. The good news:
there is a ton of information out there to help you become a better
informed consumer. The bad news? There is a ton of information out
there designed to confuse and deceive you. But here's the thing as
you contemplate having your own plastic surgery: how does any of
that information apply to you as an individual? How do you even
begin to distinguish fact from fiction? How do you decide which
procedure is the right one for you? How can you know which doctor
and facility are the best choices for your chosen procedure? How
can you increase the odds of getting the results you want? How can
you be sure you are even a good candidate for plastic surgery in
the first place? The more factual information the patient collects,
the better off the patient, the surgeon, the anesthesiologist and
the support staff are going to be. More factual information is
good; inaccurate or little information is downright scary. Author
and renowned facial plastic surgeon, Brenton B. Koch, MD, FACS, is
going to cut through all the fluff and confusion and tell you in
straightforward, honest terms exactly what to ask potential
surgeons and their support staff during your plastic surgery
consultation. "Together, you and I will walk through a list of
questions that has been fourteen years in the making; a series of
inquiries designed to bring you greater clarity and confidence as a
potential consumer of plastic surgery. These are the questions I
get on a day-to-day basis from those well-prepared patients I
described above. These are the questions I wish all of my patients
would ask me. And not only am I going to give you the questions,
but I am also going to give you the answers that I think are the
most responsible and helpful. Lastly, I am going to give you a
series of questions for you to ask yourself about your motivation,
expectations and readiness for plastic surgery. These are the
questions I wish all of my patients would ask themselves before
they come in for a consultation."
