Nick Dumitru has been helping practices surpass their competition for well over a decade. And his advice starts with one simple concept. Growing a practice is formulaic. It's simple and works every time -- provided you have a proven formula. This book is about that proven practice growth formula.

Being in the field of medicine and plastic surgery, I have realised just having knowledge and skills are not enough to be a successful plastic surgeon; you need to be a general surgeon, a doctor, and most importantly, a compassionate human being to be successful. You also need to be a good administrator, leader, businessman, and politician. You need to be a good teacher to continue the legacy. This is what I am striving to accomplish. My wish is that I will be able to follow my profession with dignity, sincerity, ethically and legally, and to teach the youngsters to do the same. This book is about a great discipline that is called plastic surgery. It is an intensely personal subject that causes a great deal of debate, often very emotional. More than any other branch of medicine, it is also surrounded by a dense, almost impenetrable fog of rumor, myths, and misconceptions. This book will educate you to understand what goes behind the scene. Not only that, but everything you need to know about the plastic and cosmetic surgery from choosing the right surgeon to avoiding disasters and getting the treatment you really need is here in the book.

The increasing multicultural population in the US and the world is reflected in the patient population that most Facial Plastic Surgeons are seeing in their practice environments. Facial plastic surgery procedures and aesthetic goals had been based predominantly on European Caucasian models of anatomy and cultural influences/ Currently, a wide variety of racial, ethnic and cultural backgrounds are included in most facial plastic surgery practice experiences. A recognition and sensitivity to those differences and influences should be part of a modern facial plastic surgeon's skill set. With an understanding of the tremendous clinical relevance of multicultural aesthetics, this issue of Facial Plastic Surgery Clinics addresses Anatomy, Aesthetic goals, Patient evaluation, and Surgical techniques according to various ethnic, racial, and cultural needs. Some of the topics presented are Considerations in non-Caucasian facelift procedures; Scar variations by skin type; Laser and face peel procedures in non-Caucasians; Rhinoplasty in the Mestizo nose; Rhinoplasty in the African-American nose; Rhinoplasty in the Asian nose; Facial aesthetic surgical goals in patients of different cultures; and Concepts of beauty in a multicultural world.

In response to rapidly increasing rates of obesity, bariatric weight loss surgeries have increased worldwide, reaching approximately 341,000 procedures in 2011. Bariatric surgery is a major medical intervention with the primary goals of chronically reducing excess weight loss, decreasing incidence and severity of obesity related co-morbidities, and overall improvement in quality of life. Despite widespread evidence of bariatric surgery effectiveness on excess weight loss and resolution of co-morbidities, the effects of weight loss surgery on overall cardiorespiratory fitness and physical activity levels (two critical components of overall health) have yet to be defined. This book discusses the prevalence of bariatric surgery, as well as the complications and its impact on quality of life.
The increasing popularity of cosmetic procedures brings both good news and bad news for you as a potential patient. The good news: there is a ton of information out there to help you become a better informed consumer. The bad news? There is a ton of information out there designed to confuse and deceive you. But here's the thing as you contemplate having your own plastic surgery: how does any of that information apply to you as an individual? How do you even begin to distinguish fact from fiction? How do you decide which procedure is the right one for you? How can you know which doctor and facility are the best choices for your chosen procedure? How can you increase the odds of getting the results you want? How can you be sure you are even a good candidate for plastic surgery in the first place? The more factual information the patient collects, the better off the patient, the surgeon, the anesthesiologist and the support staff are going to be. More factual information is good; inaccurate or little information is downright scary. Author and renowned facial plastic surgeon, Brenton B. Koch, MD, FACS, is going to cut through all the fluff and confusion and tell you in straightforward, honest terms exactly what to ask potential surgeons and their support staff during your plastic surgery consultation. "Together, you and I will walk through a list of questions that has been fourteen years in the making; a series of inquiries designed to bring you greater clarity and confidence as a potential consumer of plastic surgery. These are the questions I get on a day-to-day basis from those well-prepared patients I described above. These are the questions I wish all of my patients would ask me. And not only am I going to give you the questions, but I am also going to give you the answers that I think are the most responsible and helpful. Lastly, I am going to give you a series of questions for you to ask yourself about your motivation, expectations and readiness for plastic surgery. These are the questions I wish all of my patients would ask themselves before they come in for a consultation."

In the right hands, cosmetic or plastic surgery can become a work of beauty and a tremendous boost to a person's self-esteem. In the wrong hands, cosmetic surgery can become a powerful force to destroy one's self-esteem and any trace of confidence a person may have in the very core of his or her soul. In The Ultimate Violation, author Kurtess Lief Scone tells the story of his life-his time suffering from rickets as a young boy; his adolescence; the role his relationship to Jesus Christ has played in his life; and his adulthood, during which, disliking his facial appearance, he underwent plastic surgery. In this memoir, he discusses the malpractice of his surgeon and being forced to deal with the negative consequences followed by mental and emotional issues related to abnormal cosmetic changes. Scone provides tools and strategies to help others find the right cosmetic surgeon. The thorax has a fundamental role in the aesthetic of the male body: congenital or acquired alterations are experienced as extremely frustrating clinical situations. Most breast surgery texts briefly mention gynecomastia, but no text comprehensively addresses the male breast and thorax, including reconstructive and cosmetic surgery and surgery in transgender patients. This gap is now thoroughly filled by Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery of the Male Breast: after introducing principles of anatomy and aesthetics for the male thorax, the first part focusses on the main congenital malformations and their treatment; the main benign acquired pathologies and their treatment (including an ample section dedicated to gynecomastia), the carcinoma of the male breast, with reference to familiar forms; the treatment of carcinoma and reconstruction of the thorax. The book closes with a chapter dedicated to breast surgery in transgender patients. While female breast surgery is increasingly practiced in specific Breast Units and highly specialized centers, male breast issues are treated in general and plastic surgeries units. This handy volume is a sound reference for the most complex clinical cases, and the latest reconstruction treatments for the male thorax and will be useful for general and thoracic surgeons, plastic surgeons and senologists.
BOOK COMES WITH A DVD CONTAINING SURGICAL VIDEOS. Click here to view a sample video on YouTube. The goal of this book is to highlight areas from the broad spectrum of rhinology, beginning with the initial history and physical examination through the diagnostic work up, medical and surgical management and identification of potential pitfalls that may arise in order to minimize treatment failures. The authors of these chapters represent a generation of dedicated rhinologists who build upon the contribution to the field by pioneers in rhinology. They have provided their expertise and insight into common mistakes in order to aid the reader in improving treatment outcomes for their patients. FROM THE PREFACE Since the 1990s, the subspecialty of rhinology has evolved faster than any other area within otolaryngology. Only in recent history, the primary pathophysiology of chronic rhinosinusitis was be believed to be primarily a result of structural obstruction of the osteomeatal complex with subsequent bacterial infection. Treatment algorithms revolved around systemic antibiotics and medical failures were treated with removal of diseased mucosa using non-physiologic surgical approaches. We have now gained a better understanding of the heterogeneous nature of chronic rhinosinusitis and the complex interaction between local and systemic immunity, impaired mucociliary clearance and the potential role for a variety of external insults to include bacteria, fungi, and other noxious stimuli. While surgery still plays a major role in the treatment of inflammatory disease, it is now performed in a physiologic fashion and its role as an adjuvant to aid in the delivery of novel topical therapies is better appreciated. In parallel with technological advancements for use in inflammatory disorders, rhinologists pushed the envelope in the surgical treatment of neoplastic disorders of the skull base and paranasal sinuses. Minimally invasive approaches in collaboration with other specialities, notably ophthalmologists and neurosurgeons, have resulted in the nascent field of neurorhinology, which is still in its infancy and will undoubtedly continue to evolve. In spite of these tremendous advances in rhinology and greatly improved success, doctors are still faced with difficult patients and failures of standard approaches. If we do not learn from our failures, we are destined to repeat them.
