Relational Supply Contracts - Optimal Concessions in Return Policies for Continuous Quality Improvements (Paperback, 2010 ed.):... Relational Supply Contracts - Optimal Concessions in Return Policies for Continuous Quality Improvements (Paperback, 2010 ed.)
Michaela Isabel Hoehn
R1,409 Discovery Miles 14 090 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Supply relations are often governed by so-called relational contracts. These are informal agreements sustained by the value of future cooperation. Although relational contracts persist in practice, research on these types of contract is only emerging in Operations and Supply Chain Management. This book studies a two-firm supply chain, where repeated transactions via well-established supply contracts and continued quality-improvement efforts are governed by a relational contract. We are able to characterize an optimal relational contract, i.e., to develop policies for supplier and buyer that structure investments in quality and flexibility in a way that no other self-enforcing contract generates higher expected joint surplus. A second goal is to compare the performance of different returns mechanisms in the context of relational contracting (quantity flexibility and buy-back contracts). Industry studies motivate the presented model.

Tourism Supply Chain Management (Paperback): Haiyan Song Tourism Supply Chain Management (Paperback)
Haiyan Song
R1,775 Discovery Miles 17 750 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Fierce global competition in the tourism industry is now focused on integral parts of supply chains rather than on individual firms. The highly competitive environment has forced tourism firms to look for ways to enhance their competitive advantage. Tourism products are often viewed by consumers as a value-added chain of different service components and identifying ways to effectively manage the inter-related tourism business operations will enable tourism firms to better meet customer needs and accomplish business goals thus maintaining competitive advantage over their equally efficient rivals.

This significant and timely volume is the first to apply supply chain management theories and practices in the context of tourism. By doing so the book offers insight into the relationships between tourism enterprises, how co-ordination across organizations can be effectively achieved and how business performance can be improved. It provides comprehensive and systematic coverage of modern supply chain management concepts and methodologies applied to the tourism and hospitality industries. The text covers key issues and principles including: marketing and product development, demand forecasting, supplier selection and management, distribution channels, capacity management, customer relationship management, tourism supply chain competition and coordination, and e-tourism.

The book combines essential theory and comparative international examples based on primary research to show challenges and opportunities of effective tourism supply chain management. This text is essential for final year undergraduate and postgraduate students studying Tourism Management, Tourism Planning and Tourism Economics.

Direct Store Delivery - Concepts, Applications and Instruments (Paperback, Softcover reprint of hardcover 1st ed. 2009):... Direct Store Delivery - Concepts, Applications and Instruments (Paperback, Softcover reprint of hardcover 1st ed. 2009)
Andreas Otto, Franz Josef Schoppengerd, Ramin Shariatmadari
R2,404 Discovery Miles 24 040 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Direct Store Delivery (DSD) is a key method of selling and distributing products for a variety of industries. In the consumer products industry, DSD is one of the strategic key growth areas, as the process delivers a broad range of business benefits to all parties of the value chain. Today, 24 of the world's Top 30 Fast Moving Consumer Goods companies employ the DSD business process.

Although DSD is gaining major and steadily increasing attention in the market, it has hardly been covered by literature and empirical studies. For the first time and including the input of both practitioners and academics, this book throws light on the topic of DSD from different perspectives, providing fresh insights and benefits.

The book covers diverse topics. Among others, it delivers a deeper understanding of the DSD business process and why companies use it. Furthermore, the global status quo of DSD usage and details of its implementation will be illustrated and multi-level insights (strategic, operational) will be discussed.

Fashion Logistics - Insights into the Fashion Retail Supply Chain (Paperback, 2nd Revised Edition): John Fernie, David B Grant Fashion Logistics - Insights into the Fashion Retail Supply Chain (Paperback, 2nd Revised Edition)
John Fernie, David B Grant
R1,694 Discovery Miles 16 940 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Retailers are being advised to review their supply chains in a bid to accelerate their speed to market. Fashion Logistics assesses the growth and changes in the industry as well as the drivers of change in the market. Supply chain networks and operations play an integral role in distributing their product across the retail industry, and significant changes within those networks have altered the way in which they function. Manufacturers therefore need to re-think their supply chains so that they are resilient enough to withstand shocks, agile enough to respond quickly to sudden change, flexible enough to customise products, and efficient enough to protect margins. Fashion Logistics assess these forces and changes, and how manufacturers should adapt their working practices accordingly.

The new edition includes updates on CSR, a re-write of the reshoring section, updated case studies and new content covering how manufacturers can adapt their working practices accordingly, and new content on the further demise of the department store sector. Online supporting resources include lecture slides to supplement new content covered in each chapter.

Integrating Blockchain into Supply Chain Management - A Toolkit for Practical Implementation (Paperback): Matthew A Waller,... Integrating Blockchain into Supply Chain Management - A Toolkit for Practical Implementation (Paperback)
Matthew A Waller, Remko Van Hoek, Marat Davletshin, Brian Fugate
R1,504 Discovery Miles 15 040 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Blockchain provides a secure ledger of transactions, programmable smart contracts, and real-time trustworthy visibility and insight into the supply chain process. For all the promises it offers to supply chain professionals, however, there's very little guidance available on how organizations should begin evaluating and using it. Integrating Blockchain into Supply Chain Management provides that much needed step by step guidance.

The Blockchain Toolkit is a very practical book of tools, frameworks and case studies. It will help students and supply chain managers to evaluate the value proposition blockchain brings. It will then guide them through essential processes for making informed, practical, timely, and business-savvy decisions for using blockchain as an effective supply chain tool. It includes a valuable benchmark survey of the state of play in blockchain in supply chain management, including organisations such as Tyson Foods, IBM and Coca Cola, as well as downloadable frameworks and tools. Online supporting resources include PowerPoints of lesson plans.

Excellence in Supply Chain Management (Hardcover): Balram Avittathur, Debabrata Ghosh Excellence in Supply Chain Management (Hardcover)
Balram Avittathur, Debabrata Ghosh
R1,663 Discovery Miles 16 630 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Recent decades have witnessed an explosion in supply chain complexity. Very few firms have succeeded in building excellent supply chains and employing supply chain management (SCM) as a competitive advantage. For the ones which have developed enhanced supply chain design and process capabilities, their performance has far exceeded their competitors'. While for the vast majority of firms, SCM still remains a means of reducing costs and improving efficiency, for the excellent ones, SCM has turned into a source for value creation. What factors drive firms towards supply chain excellence? How can real differentiation be created through supply chains? Excellence in Supply Chain Management examines the characteristics and features of firms that excel in SCM.

Mastering the Circular Economy - A Practical Approach to the Circular Business Model Transformation (Paperback): Ed Weenk,... Mastering the Circular Economy - A Practical Approach to the Circular Business Model Transformation (Paperback)
Ed Weenk, Rozanne Henzen
R1,201 Discovery Miles 12 010 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Global consumption of raw materials currently goes beyond the earth's regenerative capacity, but the circular economy offers a more sustainable model which also provides new business opportunities. Mastering the Circular Economy is an introduction to circularity from a business and value chain management perspective. With many reflections and exercises throughout, the book draws a direct link between relevant recent theory and practice and offers students and practitioners a deeper understanding of the topic. It looks at both the macro and micro context of the circular economy, from the government and societal view to the impact of new business models in an individual company. Starting from the corporate imperative of moving from linear to circular business models, Mastering the Circular Economy covers the associated opportunities and challenges for organizations, from regulation and risk to value chain collaboration, reverse logistics and product quality. Part two of the book helps students to pull together everything they've learned and see how the concepts play out in the real world by guiding them through application in the online business simulation game The Blue Connection (free basic access is included with the book). Readers are continuously asked to reflect on the choices they would make in different roles to demonstrate a full understanding of the strategic and operational implications of the circular economy.

T.C.Edwin Cheng, Tsan-Ming Choi
R5,901 Discovery Miles 59 010 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Quick Response (QR) policy is a market-driven business strategy in which supply chain members work together to react quickly to volatile market demand. Nowadays, with advances in information technologies (such as RFID and ERP systems), new challenges and opportunities arise for the application of QR. This handbook explores QR extensively with a view to discovering innovative QR measures that can help tackle the observed and emerging challenges. The book is organized into four parts, which include chapters on analytical modeling and analyses, information technologies, cases, reviews, and applications. This handbook provides new analytical and empirical results with valuable insights, which will not only help supply chain agents to better understand the latest applications of QR in business, but also help practitioners and researchers to know how to improve the effectiveness of QR using innovative methods.

Bid Writing for Project Managers (Hardcover, New Ed): David Cleden Bid Writing for Project Managers (Hardcover, New Ed)
David Cleden
R4,503 Discovery Miles 45 030 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

At what stage in the process do commercial projects go wrong? Some of the worst problems (unrealistic objectives, faulty assumptions, and poorly understood constraints) are 'programmed in' at conception when the bid is written, long before the project manager is brought on board. If the bid is misconceived, no amount of clever project management is going to recover the situation. Involving the designated project manager at the bidding stage is becoming the norm in many commercial organizations. Some make the project manager the bid manager so they can direct all aspects of the project's conception. Getting the bid right is the essence of planning for project success, and is the main theme of this book. However, many project managers are unfamiliar with the pitfalls of competitive bidding and don't know how to balance a compelling sales message against a realistic delivery plan. Bid Writing for Project Managers will guide prospective project managers through the bid-writing lifecycle, providing comprehensive guidelines and numerous tips on how to craft a winning bid and how to set the project up with the best possible chance of success.

The Supply Chain in Manufacturing, Distribution, and Transportation - Modeling, Optimization, and Applications (Hardcover):... The Supply Chain in Manufacturing, Distribution, and Transportation - Modeling, Optimization, and Applications (Hardcover)
Kenneth D. Lawrence, Ronald K. Klimberg, Virginia M. Miori
R3,101 Discovery Miles 31 010 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Reporting on cutting-edge research in production, distribution, and transportation, The Supply Chain in Manufacturing, Distribution, and Transportation: Modeling, Optimization, and Applications provides the understanding needed to tackle key problems within the supply chain. Viewing the supply chain as an integrated process with regard to tactical and operational planning, it details models to help you address the wide range of organizational issues that can adversely affect your supply chain.

This compilation of scholarly research work from academia and industry considers high-level production schedules, product sourcing, network alignment, distribution center layouts, transportation operations with stochastic demand, inventory planning, and day-to-day operations planning. The book is divided into three sections:

  • Industrial and Service Applications of the Supply Chain
  • Analytic Probabilistic Models in Supply Chain Problems
  • Optimization Models of Supply Chain Problems

Because tactical and operational models rely on quality forecasts of demand, the text examines stochastic customer demand, coordination of supply chain functions, and solution algorithms. It reviews real-world business applications and case studies that illustrate the modeling solutions discussed.

Supply Chain Disruption - Aligning Business Strategy and Supply Chain Tactics (Paperback): Steve O'Sullivan Supply Chain Disruption - Aligning Business Strategy and Supply Chain Tactics (Paperback)
Steve O'Sullivan
R1,546 Discovery Miles 15 460 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Disruptive technologies have the power to upend supply chains, adding uncertainty, cost, and complexity to any business.
