Blockchain provides a secure ledger of transactions, programmable smart contracts, and real-time trustworthy visibility and insight into the supply chain process. For all the promises it offers to supply chain professionals, however, there's very little guidance available on how organizations should begin evaluating and using it. Integrating Blockchain into Supply Chain Management provides that much needed step by step guidance. The Blockchain Toolkit is a very practical book of tools, frameworks and case studies. It will help students and supply chain managers to evaluate the value proposition blockchain brings. It will then guide them through essential processes for making informed, practical, timely, and business-savvy decisions for using blockchain as an effective supply chain tool. It includes a valuable benchmark survey of the state of play in blockchain in supply chain management, including organisations such as Tyson Foods, IBM and Coca Cola, as well as downloadable frameworks and tools. Online supporting resources include PowerPoints of lesson plans.
Disruptive technologies have the power to upend supply chains, adding
uncertainty, cost, and complexity to any business. These technologies
can also create competitive advantage, but only if organizations
strategically build them into their supply chains. Supply Chain
Disruption provides the vital knowledge that supply chain managers need
in order to implement disruptive technologies strategically. This
essential book avoids a one-size-fits-all approach and encourages the
reader to consider customer needs first before aligning appropriate
technologies with each supply chain application.
Supply Chain Risk Management is an issue that many companies
face and yet few companies know how to deal with it in a systematic
and pragmatic manner. While avoiding and reducing supply chain
risks are certainly preferable, developing ways to restore and
stabilize supply chain operations rapidly after a major disruption
is critical for managing global supply chains. Sodhi and Tang
present important concepts, frameworks, strategies, and analyses
that are essential for managing supply chain risks. Not only does
this book suggest some practical ways to work with different
partners to manage the risks that are present in a global supply
chain, it creates a framework that would enable practitioners to
engage researchers to work on this important area.

Norman Katz has secured a top spot as one of the Top 50 Global Thought Leaders and Influencers on Supply Chain 2020. Even the largest companies find managing vendors a daunting task. If you get it wrong then you risk inadvertently penalizing potentially valuable suppliers with misguided, overly bureaucratic or costly processes. Worse the burdens placed on the vendors backfires on the customer entity itself as the customer is subjected to the increased operational costs of managing the ramifications of the ill-conceived or poorly implemented requirement through the vendor community, driving up its own operational costs and increasing frustrations for all, straining the customer-vendor relationship. Effective compliance programs balance the requirements with the capabilities of their suppliers, striving to educate instead of just inform. A well-run program should help vendors self-implement and control costs, not force vendors to rely on constant communication and increase costs for all trading partners involved. Successful Supply Chain Vendor Compliance explains the technical, process and cultural elements that go into a successful compliance program. Norman Katz exposes the weaknesses in traditional programs and identifies the characteristics of well-managed programs that foster beneficial trading partner relationships. He shows how a well-executed vendor compliance program can control and decrease costs by reducing disruptions throughout the supply chain, from the distribution center to the data center to the corporate office. Competition is fierce, and the right vendor can help you define a business model, react quickly to changes, and differentiate between you and your competitors. The physical distribution of products is an important element in the marketing operations of all productive enterprises, and in many cases efficient distribution is the most important single factor leading to success. With the emergence of post-industrial society the role of distribution has come to increasingly be viewed as a generator of wealth in the economy, attracting the interest of public policy makers anxious to influence investment, employment and efficiency in the sector. First published in 1982, this book isolates the major trends affecting the main institutions in distribution and contrasts the processes of change amongst the countries and regions of the European Economic Community. Structural change in the industry is related to spatial change in the regions and comparisons made of the varied public policy responses in member countries. An interesting and relevant reissue, this title will be of particular value to economics and business students with an interest in the development of the European consumer and post-industrial Europe.
Stuart Emmett and Vivek Sood's book provides a clear strategic overview and actionable plan for the implementation of green supply chains. For anyone grappling with the elements required to change an organization's supply chain strategy in a 'green' direction, this book is a must read. "Having worked with Stuart Emmett on other ground breaking
books, I can empathically say that this book written with Vivek
Sood is another one in the same mould. This enjoyable book not only
covers a topic that is critically relevant for every individual,
but also provides a practical road map for a green supply chain
strategy. Strongly recommended, it is a book of it time." "After co-creating the supply chain management methodology in
1979, I have remained at the forefront of this field for the last
30 years by continually pushing the boundaries of thoughts and
applications in Supply Chain Management. But, during all this time,
nothing has excited me as much as our current endeavor on "Green
Supply Chains." It is the need of the moment, resonating in all
directions. What is more important, it makes perfect commercial
sense. This book by Vivek Sood and Stuart Emmett is a big step in
furthering that discussion. It should be on the bookshelf of every
progressive manager." ..".As supply chains have become more visible to people around
the world, and at the same time more global, questions about their
impact on the environment and global sustainability have increased.
People who care about our Planet often wonder what are the adverse
impacts of transporting goods thousands of miles...goods that are
often produced in manufacturing plants that are not environmentally
friendly...and then packaged in what becomes waste. So, companies
and governments worldwide have begun to address the questions. The
authors have addressed the questions in an insightful manner. They
have analyzed the supply chain processes, presented new ideas, and
have backed these up with solid case examples from leading
companies. The book is a must read for anyone who manages a supply
chain, cares about the environment, and seeks actionable ideas for
'going green'." "This book treats the 'Next Generation' Supply Chain in a
phenomenal way. It is an emerging topic, a paradigm shifting
approach for companies on their radical cost saving waves, and an
absolutely necessary component of the sustainability for our
Planet."

This book presents a series of studies analyzing critical factors that promote and constrain textile & clothing (T&C) production and trade in the Belt & Road (B&R) countries, and forces that drive the restructuring and transforming of global T&C supply chain and operations in the B&R context. The book also offers insights into the challenges and opportunities for T&C manufacturing in B&R countries through interviews with T&C experts, and also examines how Hong Kong can strengthen its "super-connector" role by facilitating sustainable trade and development in the T&C industries, as well as discussion on the impact of global trade wars on T&C trade. In the studies presented in this book, they offer topics ranging from the macro-economy, international business environment and strategies, logistics and supply chain, policy changes, to sustainability. The studies offer descriptive, theoretical and empirical analyses that explore T&C business and management related opportunities and challenges that are derived from the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Econometric analysis with the gravity model is applied to T&C trade and extended to cover other areas that have not been considered in previous studies, such as production costs, export supply chain costs, technologies, demographical factors, and factors related to the business environment and policies, including qualitative variables. Studies using in-depth interviews and linear regression analysis are also present to explore new factors for T&C trade and production relocation to B&R countries.

Every day human organisations fail. Building Anti-Fragile Organisations explores a powerful alternative framework for risk in the design and management of human systems. Anti-Fragility is a new way of thinking about mitigating risk that builds on earlier work on the characteristics of biological systems that, being more than just robust, actually improve their resilience through being stressed. Professor Bendell explains how applying this concept to the development and management of organisations, services and products, allows us to identify the characteristics that will not only mitigate against the realisation of hazards, but enable growth in protection, strength and anti-fragility over time. In this context, anti-fragility also encompasses flexibility, agility and the exploitation of opportunities. At the organisational level, anti-fragility (or its absence) is determined by the organisational strategy, structure and systems, its people, relationships and culture. The book focuses on establishing the Anti-Fragile concept of the firm, and explores its application in private and public sector organisations of all types. It identifies characteristics relevant to survival in a turbulent world, and how our approaches to risk and governance need to change in order to create and manage anti-fragile organisations. It provides practical insight into the concept of Anti-Fragility and its deployment within human organisations of all types, and give readers the opportunity to start to make sense to applying the concepts within their own worlds.
The journey to purchase for the family shop or the B2B buyer is impacted by media, advice, packaging and trial. The sales and marketing challenge is what to say, and where to say it. Shoppernomics, based on research and case studies from US and UK, examines the path taken by the potential buyer. The authors describe the key drivers and barriers on the journey to purchase. They identify the need to get key messages, key partners and key media all working together, and a framework for success. The authors challenge the budget split between sales and marketing as possibly the largest barrier to successful shopper marketing and identify core stores and the areas they serve as being equally important targets for investment. Shoppernomics provides the manual for achieving successful companies serving happy and loyal customers, as the ultimate goal for manufacturers, retailers and brands. It reminds marketers that it is what customers take from their product or service that is important, not what they think they are delivering. It reminds sales people that nothing is more important than matching supply and demand in the eyes of the customer regardless of who actually makes the ultimate sale. Shoppernomics is designed to deliver fast results for companies prepared to recognise that they are not perfect, and go the extra mile to find out why.

We live in a world where we try to solve similar problems in structurally the same way. But they simply are not optimally solved all the same. Supply Chain Optimization through Segmentation and Analytics addresses the issue of optimizing the planning and scheduling process and asks the question; "Is there a 'one size fits all' solution for planning and scheduling?" The answer is a resounding "No!" We migrated through EOQ, MRP, JIT, and TOC, each time hoping to find that one size fits all. Each of these systems looked at the facility as if it had one focused problem, either optimizing work schedules, materials movement, or machine utilization. But what if you have two, or possibly even all three of these problems? Then what system do you use? Or what if your critical resource is not labor, materials, or machinery? Then which planning and scheduling solution do you utilize? This book introduces the concept of segmentation as the planning and scheduling tool that facilitates the optimization of the supply chain. If you have one type of problem in a part of your supply chain, you use the solution that appropriately focuses on that problem. If you have a different problem in a different part of your supply chain, then you use a different and appropriate tool for that part of the supply chain, and so forth. Or, if your product is in different stages of its life cycle, it probably requires a different set of tools for each stage of that life cycle. In addition, the book discusses how to integrate planning and scheduling tools using a segmentation approach that results in a world-class supply chain environment. It clearly details the power of segmentation and offers a systematic plan for implementation in the supply chain. To facilitate this, the author covers the components of an integrated segmentation policy, including the analytics elements and the measures that define segmentation success. He helps you build a strategy and methodology for introducing segmentation principles that allow you to break free from "one size fits all" thinking.

Meeting consumer needs and desires, while promoting cleaner production and sustainable consumption, is one of the greatest challenges facing industry today. Addressing poverty and environmental degradation requires changing how global organizations produce and distribute goods and how people and organizations consume and dispose of them. It requires a more efficient use of resources, together with action-oriented thinking but raises a range of highly specific challenges for organizations operating in emerging economies. Best Practices in Green Supply Chain Management offers new insights on the challenges of integrating environmental awareness into supply chain management operations in developing countries. The authors present in-depth case studies from the Indian and Mexican manufacturing industries, which are used to illustrate broader lessons in the implementation of sustainable practices for developing economies. This book presents detailed findings and practical guidance to both researchers and practitioners working in the fields of business management, sustainability and green practices, as well as all those who wish to understand why organizations should integrate sustainable strategies and how to implement them.

Now in its fourth edition, Humanitarian Logistics presents chapters from a wide range of academics and practitioners and offers cutting edge research into how complex problems such as distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine and provision of relief to victims of natural disasters can be solved. New chapters cover topics such as cash-based humanitarian logistics (HL) systems, sustainability in a HL context and providing logistics services for humanitarian relief. In recent years, a number of global crises have highlighted the critical role that logistics plays in humanitarian response. There is a vital need to understand how to conduct operations in confused and swiftly changing environments. This book is essential reading for anyone who needs to understand how to effectively manage supply networks during a rapidly developing emergency.
Traditional costing models for new systems and new buildings in industry, defence or government, have tended to focus on the costs of acquisition and implementation, with scant regard for the costs of running the system or decommissioning after use. The pressure to minimize expenditure and provide value for money from reduced resources means that complex projects have to encompass a wide range of often conflicting issues and interests. Systems Lifecycle Cost-Effectiveness shows how to manage the difficulties that can arise. Optimizing the system lifecycle cost-effectiveness is complex and influenced by many factors. Massimo Pica presents a variety of models for calculating cost, benefits and risk in projects, and explains how the human factors associated with a system's design and consequent value are as important as the technical costs associated with its construction or creation. This comprehensive text can be used by students, experienced system engineers, cost analysts and managers to improve their understanding of the wide range of issues involved in the evaluation of system life cycle cost-effectiveness.

In the last half of the twentieth century industry encountered a revolutionary change brought about by the harnessed power of seemingly ever-increasing capacity, speed and functionality of computers and microprocessors. This strength provided management and workers within industries with new capabilities for management, planning and control, design, quality assurance and customer support. Organized information flow became the mainstay of industrial companies. New tools and information technology systems emerged and evolved to enable companies to integrate the various departments (Design, Procurement, Manufacturing, Sales and Finance) within companies, particularly the lager ones, including international corporations. This was to give them a chance to meet new demands for product time to market, just in time supply of orders, and customer support. To the smaller company these changes were not so apparent. Neither the tools nor systems nor indeed their economic value seemed appropriate to them except for special cases. While all this was happening the structure of the larger companies began to disintegrate. Strong competitive pressures and globalization of the market place brought this about. Shedding unwanted competence and subcontracting it to others became common practice. Regional market pressures triggered companies to reorganize to create, produce, and distribute goods and services. Greater dependency on chains of supply from external companies became the norm. Medium and smaller sized companies began to gain some advantage and at the same time some were sucked into management and control systems governed by the larger companies.
