Xuefeng Sun
R2,655 Discovery Miles 26 550 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book focuses on how supply chain finance serves and improves industrial supply chain and financial activities of SMEs in China from innovative perspective. How does supply chain finance empower SMEs? What is the basis for granting credit to SMEs? What kind of supply chain finance model can most effectively support SMEs? To address the above questions, this book adopts positivism, uses an inductive method and carries out case studies through qualitative analysis. At the end of book, the author concludes although many successful cases of supply chain finance could be found, it needs further testing and revision in practice for more enterprises due to its limits.

Automotive Global Value Chain - The Rise of Mega Suppliers (Paperback): Wilson Kia Onn Wong Automotive Global Value Chain - The Rise of Mega Suppliers (Paperback)
Wilson Kia Onn Wong
R1,504 Discovery Miles 15 040 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Today, some suppliers have grown increasingly powerful and in certain cases, earn revenues that rival or even exceed that of their automaker clients. In the pre-globalisation period, automakers wielded absolute power over their significantly smaller suppliers. This book reveals the upending of this relationship, with the gradual shift in the balance of power from automakers to their suppliers in this era of globalisation. The book examines how suppliers in the global tyres, seats, constant velocity joints (hereafter 'CVJs'), braking systems and automotive semiconductor industries have evolved into powerful oligopolies through a mix of acquisition and organic growth strategies. It also highlights how joint ventures could be strategically deployed as springboards to acquisition, as they enable firms to familiarise themselves with their partners' markets and operations. Moreover, the book analyses the disruption stirred by the entry of well-resourced technology titans into this industry and their inevitable clash with the traditional incumbents. This book is an invaluable reference for anyone interested in learning more about the automakers' and now their suppliers' relentless quest to create market-dominating intelligent driving systems.

Service Engineering for Gastronomic Sciences - An Interdisciplinary Approach for Food Study (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2020): Takeshi... Service Engineering for Gastronomic Sciences - An Interdisciplinary Approach for Food Study (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2020)
Takeshi Shimmura, Tomomi Nonaka, Satomi Kunieda
R2,655 Discovery Miles 26 550 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This pioneering book on food study pursues an interdisciplinary approach to service science and the service engineering field. Further, it highlights a range of experiments conducted at actual business sites to verify the effectiveness of the proposed methodologies and theories. In modern society, food study has become more complex, as it involves multiple fields of science. For instance, a long-lived society entails a number of problems for human beings. A balanced intake of nutrients is important for a healthy life, but in many cases, healthy food is not the most enjoyable. As such, it is important for the food industry to provide foods that are both tasty and wholesome, based on the sciences of gastronomy and nutrition. Conventional food study proceeds along the lines of a specific field such as nutrition, agriculture, or gastronomy, though it should be conducted in an interdisciplinary manner. This book covers multifaceted research on food study to respond to today's societal demands, based mainly on the natural and social sciences. It addresses a wide range of topics, including: food production management using mathematical modeling, operations research, and production engineering; evaluation of food products based on big data analysis; psychological experiments and ethnography; food products based on consumer behavior; organoleptic assessment and health improvement; design of physical dining environments using virtual reality, pedestrian debt recognition (human indoor position measuring), and observation of behavior. Reporting on and assessing many studies conducted at actual business locations, the book offers a unique and highly practical resource.

Vibe Ulfbeck, Alexandra Andhov, Katerina Mitkidis
R4,488 Discovery Miles 44 880 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Corporate Social Responsibility has for long been on the agenda in the business world and recently, it has also become a political agenda in the European Union. Focusing on international supply chains and their control based on studies of law in several European jurisdictions, this book aims to advance the discussion on the application and enforcement of CSR. Drawing parallels to US and Canadian law, the book explores to what extent private law tools can be used as an enforcement device and it ultimately asks if what we are witnessing is the formation of a new area of law, employing the interplay of contract and tort - a law of "production liability", as a corollary of the concept of "product liability".

Advanced Public Procurement as Industrial Policy - The Aircraft Industry as a Technical University (Hardcover, 2010 ed.):... Advanced Public Procurement as Industrial Policy - The Aircraft Industry as a Technical University (Hardcover, 2010 ed.)
Gunnar Eliasson
R5,752 Discovery Miles 57 520 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This study is about the macroeconomic effects of positive externalities or industrial spillovers around advanced production. The case explored is the "technology di- dend" around Swedish aircraft industry, and in particular around the aircraft ma- facturer Saab, and the major industrial project of the JAS 39 Gripen multirole combat aircraft. The project is partly an updating of my book (in Swedish) Technology 1 Generator or a National Presige Project from 1995, but extends the analysis in s- eral directions. The study includes a chapter on spillovers from advanced production in an industrially developing economy, South Africa, that has acquired the JAS 39 Gripen for its Air Force. There is also a chapter in which the results for Sweden are discussed in the wider context of advanced public procurement in Europe. The text has been organized such that the main chapters have been written for academic readers. Two supplements include the technical details of data collection, mathematical models, and calculation methods. The first chapter is brief and focused on the results. It has the character of an extended executive summary. The second chapter summarizes the entire story; problems, results, and methods. This project would not have been possible without the generous support of a number of people. First of all great thanks go to all those people with crowded calendars in Swedish industrial firms that have set aside time to respond to my questions. Most of them have been listed at the end of the book.

Andre Matthes, Katja Beyer, Holger Cebulla, Marlen Gabriele Arnold, Anton Schumann
R2,725 Discovery Miles 27 250 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book illustrates key sustainability issues in global textile and fashion value chains, by examining individual types of fibers either at a single step in or along the entire value chain. It approaches sustainability-related issues in the textile and fashion value chain from an interdisciplinary and holistic viewpoint, with each contribution linking questions on the textile and fashion value chain to various drivers, indicators and concepts of sustainability. Each chapter represents a single step in the textile and fashion value chain, exploring and considering a wide range of interwoven and interdependent technological, environmental, social, political and economic aspects. Various fibers, textile engineering and chemical treatment steps, as well as innovative business concepts and regulatory frameworks across the entire textile and fashion value chain are identified, analyzed, discussed and critically evaluated. The book provides a systematic overview of the potential and challenges of sustainable textile and fashion value chains, making it of interest to practitioners and scientists in sustainability science, environmental economics, and business, management and innovation. Further, it offers a valuable source of information for industrial and mechanical engineering researchers, and for students in the areas of textile engineering, fashion, or the apparel and clothing industry.

Service Supply Chain Systems - A Systems Engineering Approach (Paperback): Tsan-Ming Choi Service Supply Chain Systems - A Systems Engineering Approach (Paperback)
Tsan-Ming Choi
R1,694 Discovery Miles 16 940 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Supply chain management is a well-developed area. The traditional supply chains are dynamic systems which include the forward and reverse flows of physical products and the related information and fund. However, a service supply chain is different because the real "product" may take the form of a "service" which implies that many traditionally crucial decisions in supply chain management such as product shipping problems are no longer important. Here, a service supply chain is defined as a supply network that transfers resources into services or servitised products, with or without physical products, to satisfy customer needs. As a result, managing a service supply chain system requires innovative strategies with new models. Currently, there is an absence of a comprehensive reference source that provides the state-of-the-art findings on this important topic. It will thus be significant to develop a well-balanced edited volume that includes both theoretical results (from different perspectives) and application cases/studies on service supply chain systems. This book is a pioneering text on service supply chain systems. It features papers which adopt the systems engineering approach in conducting service supply chain analysis. It includes both theoretical results (from different perspectives) and application cases/studies on service supply chain systems. It will be a good reference book for industrialists and academics who are interested in the service industry, service operations, service management, and service sciences.

The Relationship-Driven Supply Chain - Creating a Culture of Collaboration throughout the Chain (Paperback): Stuart Emmett,... The Relationship-Driven Supply Chain - Creating a Culture of Collaboration throughout the Chain (Paperback)
Stuart Emmett, Barry Crocker
R1,689 Discovery Miles 16 890 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Collaboration in supply chains means managing the chain beyond traditional or transactional methods. It involves rethinking the way your business is managed, both internally and externally, and the ways in which employees and partners relate to each other. Stuart Emmett and Barry Crocker's book explains how a relationship-based approach to supply chain management can transform business; how to organise your business internally for effective supply chain relationships and how to transform your external supply chain using relationship marketing, customer relationship management and supply chain partnerships. One of the key distinguishing characteristics of a high performing supply chain is the presence of strategic trust. With strategic trust, the parties have access to each other's strategic plans; relevant cost information and forecasts are shared; risks and rewards are addressed openly. This book explains how to embed a culture of inter-company trust and to realise the benefits of improved supply chain relationships.

Greener Purchasing - Opportunities and Innovations (Hardcover): Trevor Russel Greener Purchasing - Opportunities and Innovations (Hardcover)
Trevor Russel
R1,952 Discovery Miles 19 520 Ships in 9 - 17 working days

Every organisation, public and private, no matter what its size, purchases goods and services. Large organisations also have considerable influence over the practices of their suppliers. As greener purchasing practices have become more common in large organisations, the implications for companies in the supply chain have similarly increased. Yet greener purchasing policies remain the exception rather than the norm in large organisations. Why is this? And how can environmental purchasing practices that have produced tangible business benefits for a number of companies worldwide receive wider take-up?

The Category Management Handbook (Hardcover): Andrea Cordell, Ian Thompson The Category Management Handbook (Hardcover)
Andrea Cordell, Ian Thompson
R4,911 Discovery Miles 49 110 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Category management is one of the biggest contributors of commercial value in the area of procurement and supply chain. With a proven track record of successful delivery since the early 1990s, it helps organisations gather and analyse key data about their procurement spend before subsequently creating and delivering value-adding strategies that change the value proposition from supply chains. The aim of category management is to find long-term breakthrough strategies that help lift an organisation's commercial performance to a new level. Because of its strategic long-term orientation and complex execution, category management has long been the preserve of commercial consulting companies - in effect a 'black box' toolkit shrouded in expensive methodologies. This practical handbook lifts the lid on category management by providing readers with a step-by-step process and established toolkit that allows them a 'do-it-yourself' approach. Each activity is presented as a simple tool or technique for practitioners to apply to their own organisations. To support each activity, easy-to- use templates and checklists have been provided, together with simple but practical hints and tips for implementation. This handbook is a 'must read' for all procurement and supplychain managers looking to find significant improvements in their organisations. Its practical approach cuts through long-winded consultant-speak and provides an easy-to-use practical toolkit for everyday application.

Erik Hofmann, Daniel Maucher, Martin Kotula, Oliver Kreienbrink
R3,018 R1,847 Discovery Miles 18 470 Save R1,171 (39%) Ships in 10 - 15 working days

In recent years, purchasing performance measurement have steadily gained in importance in theory and practice. Yet, in many cases, the focus still remains on cost items, especially savings. Moreover, reported performance ratios in purchasing are frequently called into question in terms of their amount and efficacy. Most of the time, there is no tie-in at all with staff compensations. To meet these and other challenges, this book presents a holistic approach for purchasing performance measurement and the incentive systems associated with it. The following topics are dealt with in detail: * Purchasing performance measurement on the level of commodity groups and the procurement organization * Supplier evaluation and performance measurement on the level of the buyer-supplier relationship * Comprehensive systems for purchasing performance measurement, such as the procurement value added and the purchasing balanced scorecard * Performance-oriented incentive systems and bonus payments for buyers, procurement organizations and suppliers Readers are thus provided with comprehensive guidelines for the implementation and realization of sustained performance measurement and incentivization in purchasing.
