Tourism Supply Chain Management (Hardcover): Haiyan Song Tourism Supply Chain Management (Hardcover)
Haiyan Song
R4,637 Discovery Miles 46 370 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Fierce global competition in the tourism industry is now focused on integral parts of supply chains rather than on individual firms. The highly competitive environment has forced tourism firms to look for ways to enhance their competitive advantage. Tourism products are often viewed by consumers as a value-added chain of different service components and identifying ways to effectively manage the inter-related tourism business operations will enable tourism firms to better meet customer needs and accomplish business goals thus maintaining competitive advantage over their equally efficient rivals. This significant and timely volume is the first to apply supply chain management theories and practices in the context of tourism. By doing so the book offers insight into the relationships between tourism enterprises, how co-ordination across organizations can be effectively achieved and how business performance can be improved. It provides comprehensive and systematic coverage of modern supply chain management concepts and methodologies applied to the tourism and hospitality industries. The text covers key issues and principles including: marketing and product development, demand forecasting, supplier selection and management, distribution channels, capacity management, customer relationship management, tourism supply chain competition and coordination, and e-tourism. The book combines essential theory and comparative international examples based on primary research to show challenges and opportunities of effective tourism supply chain management. This text is essential for final year undergraduate and postgraduate students studying Tourism Management, Tourism Planning and Tourism Economics.

Advising Upwards - A Framework for Understanding and Engaging Senior Management Stakeholders (Hardcover, New Ed): Lynda Bourne Advising Upwards - A Framework for Understanding and Engaging Senior Management Stakeholders (Hardcover, New Ed)
Lynda Bourne
R4,519 Discovery Miles 45 190 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Much has been written about leadership and team building, but there are still major gaps in thinking and research about how to engage senior stakeholders in support of an organisation's projects. The central role of stakeholders in the successful delivery of organisational strategy is becoming increasingly recognised, as is the importance of developing a sponsor culture to support more collaborative practices within the organisation. Building, and managing, relationships with senior (upwards) stakeholders is essential for success. Advising Upwards brings together the ideas of experts in fields related to engaging senior stakeholders, such as risk management, decision-making, understanding cultural considerations, effective communication and other disciplines that may enhance the sustainable engagement of senior stakeholders. The starting point is an examination of the difficulties that senior managers face as they move through the ranks of an organisation from middle management to executive levels. Senior managers usually move up through the organisation on the basis of command and control management. Once in the executive ranks they must develop a more collaborative approach and adopt the principles of emotional intelligence (EQ) to succeed. Awareness of difficulties that senior stakeholders may face drives effective approaches for communication between the team and sponsors. Case studies and stories from experts illustrate practical, structured approaches that enable the teams to develop robust relationships with senior stakeholders will result in teams 'being heard', and support their 'being extraordinary' through innovative approaches to advising upwards.

Compliance in Today's Global Supply Chain (Hardcover): Thomas A. Cook Compliance in Today's Global Supply Chain (Hardcover)
Thomas A. Cook
R2,953 Discovery Miles 29 530 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

One of the newest and fastest growing corporate positions is that of global trade compliance manager. This position used to be an insignificant factor in most corporations, but the events surrounding 9/11 changed that forever. Compliance became a household word in businesses involved in importing and exporting. Unfortunately, when corporations begin setting up initiatives to become compliant, they often have to seek the support of outside counsel, consultants, and specialists, because there is no single resource that allows them to accomplish this work independently. Rising above the myriad diverse resources for the compliance manager, Compliance in Today's Global Supply Chain is the definitive compilation and one-step "go to" resource for the executive engaged in global supply chains seeking compliance with government regulations. It provides a step-by-step blueprint for developing a compliance program and making it cost-effective within a corporation's supply chain operation. Offering the perspective of one the nation's most respected and informed experts on global supply chains, it defines emerging regulations that impact global trade. Emphasizing the importance of training programs and continuing education, it also shows how to educate senior management to ensure and maintain success and includes a list of resources to keep up with the changing import/export landscape. Providing the company and the manager responsible for supply chain compliance with the necessary tools to initiate all the steps to secure a corporate compliance program in their global supply chain, Compliance in Today's Global Supply Chain is destined to be the "resident bible" for current and future managers of global supply chains.

Advances in Integrated and Sustainable Supply Chain Planning - Concepts, Methods, Tools and Solution Approaches toward a... Advances in Integrated and Sustainable Supply Chain Planning - Concepts, Methods, Tools and Solution Approaches toward a Platform for Industrial Practice (Hardcover, 2015 ed.)
Jose Miguel Lainez-Aguirre, Luis Puigjaner
R3,999 Discovery Miles 39 990 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Decision making at the enterprise level often encompass not only production operations and product R&D, but other strategic functions such as financial planning and marketing. With the aim of maximizing growth and a firm's value, companies often focus on co-ordinating these functional components as well as traditional hierarchical decision levels. Understanding this interplay can enhance enterprise capabilities of adaptation and response to uncertainties arising from internal processes as well as the external environment. This book presents concepts, methods, tools and solutions based on mathematical programming, which provides the quantitative support needed for integrated decision-making and ultimately for improving the allocation of overall corporate resources (e.g., materials, cash and personnel). Through a systems perspective, the integrated planning of the supply chain also promotes activities of reuse, reduction and recycling for achieving more sustainable environmental impacts of production/distribution networks. Thus, this book presents, for the first time, a unique integrated vision of the Enterprise Supply Chain Planning and provides a comprehensive account of the state of the art models, methods and tools available to address the above mentioned features of the modern supply chain. It offers a comprehensive review of the associated literature of supply chain management and then systematically builds on this knowledge base to develop the mathematical models representing each of the core functional units and decision levels of the corporation and shows how they can be integrated into a holistic decision problem formulation. Abundant illustrations and tables help maximize reader insights into the problems discussed with several case studies and industry application also examined. This book is intended as a textbook for academics (PhD, MSc), researchers and industry decision-makers, who are involved in the design, retrofit and evaluation of alternative scenarios for the improvement of the supply chain.

A Short Guide to Procurement Risk (Paperback, New Ed): Richard Russill A Short Guide to Procurement Risk (Paperback, New Ed)
Richard Russill
R1,480 Discovery Miles 14 800 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Increasingly, top executives view supply markets as sources of competitive advantage and as means of achieving strategic objectives. Procurement is the management activity that makes this happen, and this process depends on a superior risk management capability if it is be effective. Yet, despite its importance, Procurement Risk Management is surprisingly under-developed. Recent Global Risk surveys have pinpointed Supply Chain Vulnerability as one of the four key global risks for the next decade. What is less well known is that this is only half of the story ... risk exposures also exist inside the company and can be just as damaging. No company is an island; it needs suppliers as well as customers. Conventional wisdom puts great emphasis on managing certain aspects of business such as customers; operations; strategy and finances. Typically, however, much less regard is paid to external suppliers and the risks present in dealing with them. As a minimum, suppliers are the sources of materials, services and expert attention which enable the company to feed its business model. When done well, a risk-aware procurement process provides the bonus of competitive advantage, with the ability to capitalise, on the occurrence of unexpected events. This short guide explains just how to do it. Each chapter explores the topic in hand, outlines the risks and the remedies available and offers guidance on the principles and risk prevention.

Shabnam Rezapour, Amirhossein Khosrojerdi, Golnoosh Rasoulifar, Janet K Allen, Jitesh H. Panchal, …
R1,569 Discovery Miles 15 690 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

A fail-safe supply network is designed to mitigate the impact of variations and disruptions on people and corporations. This is achieved by (1) developing a network structure to mitigate the impact of disruptions that distort the network structure and (2) planning flow through the network to neutralize the effects of variations. In this monograph, we propose a framework, develop mathematical models and provide examples of fail-safe supply network design. We show that, contrary to current thinking as embodied in the supply network literature, disruption management decisions made at the strategic network design level are not independent from variation management decisions made at the operational level. Accordingly, we suggest that it is beneficial to manage disruptions and variations concurrently in supply networks. This is achieved by architecting fail-safe supply networks, which are characterized by the following elements: reliability, robustness, flexibility, structural controllability, and resilience. Organizations can use the framework presented in this monograph to manage variations and disruptions. Managers can select the best operational management strategies for their supply networks considering variations in supply and demand, and identify the best network restoration strategies including facility fortification, backup inventory, flexible production capacity, flexible inventory, and transportation route reconfiguration. The framework is generalizable to other complex engineered networks.

RFID in the Supply Chain - A Guide to Selection and Implementation (Hardcover): Judith M. Myerson RFID in the Supply Chain - A Guide to Selection and Implementation (Hardcover)
Judith M. Myerson
R4,527 Discovery Miles 45 270 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Giving organizations the ability to track, secure, and manage items from the time they are raw materials through the life-cycle of the product, radio frequency identification (RFID) makes internal processes more efficient and improves overall supply chain responsiveness. Helping you bring your organization into the future, RFID in the Supply Chain: A Guide to Selection and Implementation explains RFID technology, its applications in SCM, data storage and retrieval, business processes, operational and implementation problems, risks, security and privacy, facility layout, handling systems and methods, and transportation costs. In short, with its soup-to-nuts coverage, the book ensures that your RFID implementation is successful and that you get the most from your investment.

The book discusses the major paradigm shift in product traceability that began with transitioning to RFID technology from bar code technology. It examines the economic feasibility of rolling out RFID and the challenges in supply chain synchronization, customer privacy, security, operations and IT, logistics, program management, education and training, and implementation, as well as what lessons have been learned. The author addresses the RFID business processes needed to analyze and resolve problems the suppliers face when they deal with multiple customers, each with a different mandate, and with their own set of suppliers.

Going beyond the technology and how it has changed supply chain processes, the book includes selection guidelines and implementation examples, such as speed of tag reads versus quality of computer inputs and optimal tag location. The author discusses the implementation of a business processmodel and the separate but equal concerns that business and IT executives have about the implementation of RFID applications. The book also covers security, integrated control management linked to the corporate strategy, and laws and regulations.
