After the death of her father, Ellie Arroway (Jodie Foster) devotes her life to science. Convinced of the existence of extra-terrestrial life, she uses satellites to sweep the stars for evidence. When she receives the transmission of what seems to be a blueprint from another species for the construction of a spacecraft, she has to fight for the right to lead the ship's maiden flight to meet the alien life forms. She finds herself working with her former lover, ex-priest Palmer Joss (Michael McConaughey), now a governmental advisor.

In the future, mankind has been invaded by a lethal alien bug race, thirty feet tall and possessing the ability to fly. Freedom fighter Johnny Rico sets about training up an elite military unit in order to combat the alien invaders, while his girlfriend, Carmen, becomes a fighter pilot. However, in the heat of battle, Johnny is unaware that Carmen is being seduced by her dashing flight instructor.

LA cop John Spartan (Sylvester Stallone), nicknamed 'Demolition Man' due to his hands-on approach to law enforcement, is condemned to 70 years in the penal freezer after being set up by Simon Phoenix (Wesley Snipes), Public Enemy Number One. Halfway through his sentence, however, both he and Phoenix are catapulted out of captivity, discovering their city has been transformed into a peaceful utopia, under the benevolent rule of mayor Dr Cocteau (Nigel Hawthorne). As a mysteriously pumped-up Phoenix carries on where he had left off 35 years earlier, Spartan teams up with a comparatively feisty cop (Sandra Bullock) to bring him to justice and expose the man who is engineering the whole scenario.

Directed by Steven Spielberg, and based on an unrealised project developed by the late Stanley Kubrick, 'A.I.' tells the story of David (Haley Joel Osment), the first lab-built artificial child capable of feeling real emotions. David is adopted by Monica and Henry Swinton (Frances O'Connor and Sam Robards), a couple whose own biological child has been placed in cryogenic suspension awaiting a cure for a currently fatal medical condition. The Swintons seems to adapt well to the new child in their lives, but when their own son is cured and sent home, it jeopardises David's position in the family and he soon finds himself all alone on a dangerous adventure in the outside world.

Lolita (1962)
Humbert, a divorced British professor of French literature, travels to small-town America for a teaching position. He allows himself to be swept into a relationship with Charlotte Haze, his widowed and sexually famished landlady, whom he marries in order that he might pursue the woman's 14-year-old flirtatious daughter, Lolita, with whom he has fallen hopelessly in love, but whose affections shall be thwarted by a devious trickster named Clare Quilty.

2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
Stanley Kubrick's dazzling, Academy Award®-winning achievement (Special Visual Effects) is an allegorical puzzle on the evolution of man and a compelling drama of man vs. machine. Featuring a stunning meld of music and motion, the film was also Oscar®-nominated for Best Director, Art Direction and Writing. Kubrick (who co-wrote the screenplay with Arthur C. A Clockwork Orange (1971)
Stanley Kubrick's controversial film triggered copycat violence on its initial release and as a result the director withdrew the film from circulation in Britain, keeping it suppressed right up to his death in 1999. The film follows sadistic punk Alex (Malcolm McDowell) as he takes his gang on a rape and murder spree, showing absolutely no mercy to any of his victims. When he is eventually captured, the authorities subject him to a series of experiments designed to rid him of his violent tendencies.

Barry Lyndon (1975)
Redmond Barry (Ryan O'Neal) is a young, roguish Irishman who's determined, in any way, to make a life for himself as a wealthy nobleman. Enlisting in the British Army and fighting in Europe's Seven Years War, Barry deserts, then joins the Prussian army, gets promoted to the rank of a spy, and becomes a pupil to a Chevalier and con artist/gambler. Barry then lies, dupes, duels and seduces his way up the social ladder, entering into a lustful but loveless marriage to a wealthy countess named Lady Lyndon. He takes the name of Barry Lyndon, settles in England with wealth and power beyond his wildest dreams, before eventually falling into ruin.

The Shining (1980)
From a script he co-adapted from the Stephen King novel, Kubrick melds vivid performances, menacing settings, dreamlike tracking shots and shock after shock into a milestone of the macabre. The Shining is the director's epic tale of a man in a snowbound hotel descending into murderous delusions. In a signature role, Jack Nicholson ("Heeeere's Johnny!") stars as Jack Torrance, who's come to the elegant, isolated Overlook Hotel as off-season caretaker with his wife (Shelley Duvall) and son (Danny Lloyd).

Full Metal Jacket (1987)
A superb ensemble falls in for Stanley Kubrick's brilliant saga about the Vietnam War and the dehumanizing process that turns people into trained killers. The scathing indictment of a film was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Screenplay. Joker (Matthew Modine), Animal Mother (Adam Baldwin), Gomer (Vincent D'Onofrio), Eightball (Dorian Harewood) and Cowboy (Arliss Howard) are some of the Marine recruits experiencing boot-camp hell under the punishing command of the foul-mouthed Sergeant Hartman (R. Lee Ermy). The action is savage, the story unsparing, and the dialogue is spiked with scathing humor.

Eyes Wide Shut (1999)
Kubrick's daring and controversial last film is a bracing psychosexual journey through a haunting dreamscape, a riveting suspense tale and a career milestone for stars Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman. Cruise plays a doctor who plunges into an erotic foray that threatens his marriage - and may ensnare him in a murder mystery--after his wife's (Kidman) admission of sexual longings. As the story sweeps from doubt and fear to self-discovery and reconciliation, Kubrick orchestrates it with masterful flourishes. His graceful tracking shots, rich colors and startling images are some of the bravura traits that show Kubrick as a filmmaker for the ages.

Another adventure for the intrepid time traveller. The Doctor (Tom Baker) and Romana (Lalla Ward) are holidaying in Paris when they stumble across the mysterious Count Scarlioni (Julian Glover) to steal the Mona Lisa. With the aid of inept detective Duggan (Tom Chadbon) they discover that the Count already has several Mona Lisas walled up in his cellar - all of them painted by Leonardo Da Vinci - and when the Doctor finds out that Scarlioni is also conducting time experiments he begins to realize that his latest foe is not all that he seems... Due in part to an independent television strike, this story achieved the series' highest ever viewing figures, with the final episode peaking at 16.1 million.

Iain Carson directs this sci-fi action thriller starring Joshua Marble and Morgan Obenreder. Five films from the hugely popular sci-fi franchise. In 'The Fly' (1958), a scientist (David Hedison) is obsessed with developing a molecular matter transmitter. When he attempts to test the invention himself, he is unwittingly joined by a companion - a fly that has sneaked into the transportation pod with him. 'Return of the Fly' (1959) sees the original scientist's son reconstructing the matter transporter which turned his father into an insect, with the young man's experiments leading him down the same insectoid path. In 'Curse of the Fly' (1965) the plot again revolves around the Delambre family, although this time it is the scientist's grandson, Henri Delambre (Brian Donlevy), who becomes obsessed with transporter experiments to the dismay of his two sons, who want to live normal lives and forget about their grandfather's invention. Henri's oldest son, Martin (George Baker), marries a young woman who just escaped from a mental hospital. After Martin's new wife discovers a closet filled with deranged humans left over from failed teleportation experiments, the police are called and Henri attempts to flee using the infamous transporter. 'The Fly' (1986) is the Oscar-winning remake of the 1958 horror classic. Scientist Seth Brundle (Jeff Goldblum), experimenting with transmitting matter uses himself as a guinea-pig, unaware that a fly has got into the machinery. As he embarks on a relationship with Veronica Quaife (Geena Davis), the journalist covering his project, his body slowly begins to take on fly-like characteristics. 'The Fly 2' (1989) is the sequel to the 1986 movie. Dr Seth Brundle is no more, but he has left behind a gruesome legacy: the teleportation device which transformed him into a human fly, and a son, Martin (Matthew Moore/Harley Cross). Infected with his father's insect metabolism, Martin's growth is hugely accelerated, and he is soon a fully grown man (Eric Stoltz). When he discovers the remains of his father's experiment, Martin decides to pick up where Seth left off.

Classic creature comedy horror directed by Joe Dante and produced by Steven Spielberg. When Billy Peltzer (Zach Gilligan) is given the cute and friendly little Mogwai, Gizmo (voiced by Howie Mandel), for Christmas, he is told never to expose it to bright light, get it wet or ever feed it after midnight. But one night when a glass of water is accidentally spilled over little Gizmo, Billy soon finds out why he was told to follow this advice as Gizmo begins to convulse, producing five new Mogwai. As Billy and his science teacher, Mr. Hanson (Glynn Turman), then seek to find out more about the creatures, a series of events lead to the escape of a number of them; and due to their heightened intelligence they know exactly how to replicate themselves. Soon after, the town is overrun by a new breed of Mogwai - the 'Gremlins' - who are menacing little reptilian creatures, and far from friendly.

The Doctor has to battle an anti-matter monster, the unstable Morestran Commander Salamar, and scientist Professor Sorenson, who is transforming into a deadly Anti-man.

Another adventure for everyone's favourite time-traveller. Answering the Brigadier's space/time telegraph, the Doctor (Tom Baker), Sarah (Elisabeth Sladen) and Harry (Ian Marter) arrive in the village of Tulloch, near Loch Ness. A series of attacks have taken place on local oil rigs, and many are blaming the legendary monster. The Doctor discovers the creature to be the Skarasen - cyborg pet of invading aliens the Zygons. Their own planet having been destroyed and their spaceship crippled, these deadly shape-shifters are now intent upon taking control of the planet Earth.
