Securing Cyber-Physical Systems (Paperback): Al-Sakib Khan Pathan Securing Cyber-Physical Systems (Paperback)
Al-Sakib Khan Pathan
R1,495 Discovery Miles 14 950 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Think about someone taking control of your car while you're driving. Or, someone hacking into a drone and taking control. Both of these things have been done, and both are attacks against cyber-physical systems (CPS). Securing Cyber-Physical Systems explores the cybersecurity needed for CPS, with a focus on results of research and real-world deployment experiences. It addresses CPS across multiple sectors of industry. CPS emerged from traditional engineered systems in the areas of power and energy, automotive, healthcare, and aerospace. By introducing pervasive communication support in those systems, CPS made the systems more flexible, high-performing, and responsive. In general, these systems are mission-critical-their availability and correct operation is essential. This book focuses on the security of such mission-critical systems. Securing Cyber-Physical Systems brings together engineering and IT experts who have been dealing separately with these issues. The contributed chapters in this book cover a broad range of CPS security topics, including: Securing modern electrical power systems Using moving target defense (MTD) techniques to secure CPS Securing wireless sensor networks (WSNs) used for critical infrastructures Mechanisms to improve cybersecurity and privacy in transportation CPS Anticipated cyberattacks and defense approaches for next-generation autonomous vehicles Security issues, vulnerabilities, and challenges in the Internet of Things Machine-to-machine (M2M) communication security Security of industrial control systems Designing "trojan-resilient" integrated circuits While CPS security techniques are constantly evolving, this book captures the latest advancements from many different fields. It should be a valuable resource for both professionals and students working in network, web, computer, or embedded system security.

Managing the PSTN Transformation - A Blueprint for a Successful Migration to IP-Based Networks (Paperback): Sandra Dornheim Managing the PSTN Transformation - A Blueprint for a Successful Migration to IP-Based Networks (Paperback)
Sandra Dornheim
R1,467 Discovery Miles 14 670 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

While there are many scholarly books and papers that cover the technical issues behind the public switched telephone network (PSTN) migration, few books describe exactly how to manage the migration process economically. Filling this need, Managing the PSTN Transformation: A Blueprint for a Successful Migration to IP-Based Networks reflects the latest understanding of the challenges behind migrating customers from the old PSTN network to an IP infrastructure. The IP transformation blueprint described in this book is not a theoretical cookbook that describes how this could work. Instead, the book presents a blueprint that is the product of countless hours of work by hundreds of individuals at Deutsche Telekom (DT) over almost two years. The book presents insights gained as the DT team migrated the entire public switched telephone network in Macedonia to an Internet protocol-based platform. It illustrates the various types of challenges the team faced in integrating complex systems, including flight control at their airports, alarms for fire and police response, and large enterprise customers. Detailing new conceptual approaches and the best practices developed for ensuring knowledge transfer within the DT group, the book presents the information in a step-by-step manner to enable you to easily adapt the blueprint for particular service provider requirements. Since successful migration relies on key aspects beyond the technological side, this work provides you with a product portfolio roadmap, migration plan, IT roadmap, business case framework, and a go-to-market plan. Although the book discusses the experiences of the Deutsche Telekom team as they worked to migrate the telephone network in Macedonia to an Internet protocol-based platform, the IP transformation blueprint and lessons learned presented can easily be scaled up and applied to any market around the world.

Knud Erik Skouby, Idongesit Williams, Albert Gyamfi
R2,722 Discovery Miles 27 220 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Handbook on ICT in Developing Countries: Next Generation ICT Technologies is the second volume of the Handbook of ICT in Developing Countries. The first volume was on the potential implementation and service delivery of the forth-coming 5G networks. Here the focus is on the new technologies and services enabled by 5G networks or broadband Internet networks including artificial Intelligence (AI), machine learning, augmented reality, Internet of Things (IoT), autonomous driving, blockchain solutions, cloud solutions etc. Some of these are already globally experiencing growth in the existing networks and all of them are expected to grow substantially in the future. Examples: currently, 5% of global organizations have fully adopted AI, but the penetration is expected to increase rapidly before 2025. IoT with 20.35 billion devices connected in 2017 is estimated to show 75.44 billion devices connected in 2025. The expected growth is based on delivering of new value to businesses and citizens. It is, however, not obvious that this growth will also occur in developing countries. Currently, the digital divide between developing countries and developed countries is widening. This is mostly due to the lack of infrastructure and low level of awareness by the businesses and citizens of the value made possible by the new technologies for developing countries. The book discusses the potentials of the new technologies for developing countries and the need for market interventions that will facilitate the demand and supply side of the market. It is designed for a broad audience including practitioners, researchers, academics, policy makers and industry players and influencers. The language and approach to the handbook is a combination of the academic writing style and professional reviews.

Multi-Carrier Communication Systems with Examples in MATLAB (R) - A New Perspective (Paperback): Emad Hassan Multi-Carrier Communication Systems with Examples in MATLAB (R) - A New Perspective (Paperback)
Emad Hassan
R1,674 Discovery Miles 16 740 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Detailing the advantages and limitations of multi-carrier communication, this book proposes possible solutions for these limitations. Multi-Carrier Communication Systems with Examples in MATLAB (R): A New Perspective addresses the two primary drawbacks of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) communication systems: the high sensitivity to carrier frequency offsets and phase noise, and the high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) of the transmitted signals. Presenting a new interleaving scheme for multicarrier communication, the book starts with a detailed overview of multi-carrier systems such as OFDM, multi-carrier code division multiple access (MC-CDMA), and single-carrier frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA) systems. From there, it proposes a new way to deal with the frequency-selective fading channel: the single-carrier with frequency domain equalization (SC-FDE) scheme. The second part of the book examines the performance of the continuous phase modulation (CPM)-based OFDM (CPM-OFDM) system. It proposes a CPM-based single-carrier frequency domain equalization (CPM-SC-FDE) structure for broadband wireless communication systems. In the third part of the book, the author proposes a chaotic interleaving scheme for both CPM-OFDM and the CPM-SC-FDE systems. A comparison between the proposed chaotic interleaving and the conventional block interleaving is also performed in this part. The final part of the book presents efficient image transmission techniques over multi-carrier systems such as OFDM, MC-CDMA, and SC-FDMA. It details a new approach for efficient image transmission over OFDM and MC-CDMA systems using chaotic interleaving that transmits images over wireless channels efficiently. The book studies the performance of discrete cosine transform-based single-carrier frequency division multiple access (DCT-SC-FDMA) with image transmission. It also proposes a CPM-based DCT-SC-FDMA structure for efficient image transmission. The book includes MATLAB (R) simulations along with MATLAB code so you can practice carrying out your own extensive simulations.

Optimization Methods for User Admissions and Radio Resource Allocation for Multicasting over High Altitude Platforms... Optimization Methods for User Admissions and Radio Resource Allocation for Multicasting over High Altitude Platforms (Hardcover)
Ahmed Ibrahim, Attahiru Alfa
R2,696 Discovery Miles 26 960 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book focuses on the issue of optimizing radio resource allocation (RRA) and user admission control (AC) for multiple multicasting sessions on a single high altitude platform (HAP) with multiple antennas on-board. HAPs are quasi-stationary aerial platforms that carry a wireless communications payload to provide wireless communications and broadband services. They are meant to be located in the stratosphere layer of the atmosphere at altitudes in the range 17-22 km and have the ability to fly on demand to temporarily or permanently serve regions with unavailable telecommunications infrastructure. An important requirement that the book focusses on is the development of an efficient and effective method for resource allocation and user admissions for HAPs, especially when it comes to multicasting. Power, frequency, space (antennas selection) and time (scheduling) are the resources considered in the problem over an orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) HAP system. Due to the strong dependence of the total number of users that could join different multicast groups, on the possible ways we may allocate resources to these groups, it is of significant importance to consider a joint user to session assignments and RRA across the groups. From the service provider's point of view, it would be in its best interest to be able to admit as many higher priority users as possible, while satisfying their quality of service requirements. High priority users could be users subscribed in and paying higher for a service plan that gives them preference of admittance to receive more multicast transmissions, compared to those paying for a lower service plan. Also, the user who tries to join multiple multicast groups (i.e. receive more than one multicast transmission), would have preferences for which one he would favor to receive if resources are not enough to satisfy the QoS requirements. Technical topics discussed in the book include: - Overview on High Altitude Platforms, their different types and the recent works in this area - Radio Resource Allocation and User Admission Control in HAPs - Multicasting in a Single HAP System: System Model and Mathematical Formulation - Optimization schemes that are designed to enhance the performance of a branch and bound technique by taking into account special mathematical structure in the problem formulation

OSPF and IS-IS - From Link State Routing Principles to Technologies (Hardcover): Rui Valadas OSPF and IS-IS - From Link State Routing Principles to Technologies (Hardcover)
Rui Valadas
R3,946 Discovery Miles 39 460 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book describes and compares both the IPv4 and IPv6 versions of OSPF and IS-IS. It explains OSPF and IS-IS by grounding the analysis on the principles of Link State Routing (LSR). It deliberately separates principles from technologies. Understanding the principles behind the technologies makes the learning process easier and more solid. Moreover, it helps uncovering the dissimilarities and commonalities of OSPF and IS-IS and exposing their stronger and weaker features. The chapters on principles explain the features of LSR protocols and discuss the alternative design options, independently of technologies. The chapters on technologies provide a comprehensive description of OSPF and IS-IS with enough detail for professionals that need to work with these technologies. The final part of the book describes and discusses a large set of experiments with Cisco routers designed to illustrate the various features of OSPF and IS-IS. In particular, the experiments related to the synchronization mechanisms are not usually found in the literature.
