R2,905 Discovery Miles 29 050 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

To satisfy the higher requirements of digitally converged embedded systems, this book describes heterogeneous multicore technology that uses various kinds of low-power embedded processor cores on a single chip. With this technology, heterogeneous parallelism can be implemented on an SoC, and greater flexibility and superior performance per watt can then be achieved. This book defines the heterogeneous multicore architecture and explains in detail several embedded processor cores including CPU cores and special-purpose processor cores that achieve highly arithmetic-level parallelism. The authors developed three multicore chips (called RP-1, RP-2, and RP-X) according to the defined architecture with the introduced processor cores. The chip implementations, software environments, and applications running on the chips are also explained in the book. Provides readers an overview and practical discussion of heterogeneous multicore technologies from both a hardware and software point of view; Discusses a new, high-performance and energy efficient approach to designing SoCs for digitally converged, embedded systems; Covers hardware issues such as architecture and chip implementation, as well as software issues such as compilers, operating systems, and application programs; Describes three chips developed according to the defined heterogeneous multicore architecture, including chip implementations, software environments, and working applications.

R5,639 Discovery Miles 56 390 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The Cambridge Workshops on Universal Access and Assistive Technology (CWUAAT) are a series of workshops held at a Cambridge University College every two years. The workshop theme: "Designing inclusion for real-world applications" refers to the emerging potential and relevance of the latest generations of inclusive design thinking, tools, techniques, and data, to mainstream project applications such as healthcare and the design of working environments. Inclusive Design Research involves developing tools and guidance enabling product designers to design for the widest possible population, for a given range of capabilities.

There are five main themes:

Designing for the Real-World

Measuring Demand And Capabilities

Designing Cognitive Interaction with Emerging Technologies

Design for Inclusion

Designing Inclusive Architecture

In the tradition of CWUAAT, we have solicited and accepted contributions over a wide range of topics, both within individual themes and also across the workshop's scope. We ultimately hope to generate more inter-disciplinary dialogues based on focused usage cases that can provide the discipline necessary to drive further novel research, leading to better designs. The aim is to impact industry and end-users as well governance and public design, thereby effectively reducing exclusion and difficulty in peoples' daily lives and society.

Information Modeling for Interoperable Dimensional Metrology (Hardcover, 2011 ed.): Y. Zhao, T. Kramer, Robert Brown, Xun Xu Information Modeling for Interoperable Dimensional Metrology (Hardcover, 2011 ed.)
Y. Zhao, T. Kramer, Robert Brown, Xun Xu
R4,437 Discovery Miles 44 370 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Dimensional metrology is an essential part of modern manufacturing technologies, but the basic theories and measurement methods are no longer sufficient for today's digitized systems. The information exchange between the software components of a dimensional metrology system not only costs a great deal of money, but also causes the entire system to lose data integrity.

"Information Modeling for Interoperable Dimensional Metrology" analyzes interoperability issues in dimensional metrology systems and describes information modeling techniques. It discusses new approaches and data models for solving interoperability problems, as well as introducing process activities, existing and emerging data models, and the key technologies of dimensional metrology systems.

Written for researchers in industry and academia, as well as advanced undergraduate and postgraduate students, this book gives both an overview and an in-depth understanding of complete dimensional metrology systems. By covering in detail the theory and main content, techniques, and methods used in dimensional metrology systems, "Information Modeling for Interoperable Dimensional Metrology" enables readers to solve real-world dimensional measurement problems in modern dimensional metrology practices. Human lives are getting increasingly entangled with technology, especially comp- ing and electronics. At each step we take, especially in a developing world, we are dependent on various gadgets such as cell phones, handheld PDAs, netbooks, me- cal prosthetic devices, and medical measurement devices (e.g., blood pressure m- itors, glucometers). Two important design constraints for such consumer electronics are their form factor and battery life. This translates to the requirements of reduction in the die area and reduced power consumption for the semiconductor chips that go inside these gadgets. Performance is also important, as increasingly sophisticated applications run on these devices, and many of them require fast response time. The form factor of such electronics goods depends not only on the overall area of the chips inside them but also on the packaging, which depends on thermal ch- acteristics. Thermal characteristics in turn depend on peak power signature of the chips. As a result, while the overall energy usage reduction increases battery life, peak power reduction in?uences the form factor. One more important aspect of these electronic equipments is that every 6 months or so, a newer feature needs to be added to keep ahead of the market competition, and hence new designs have to be completed with these new features, better form factor, battery life, and performance every few months. This extreme pressure on the time to market is another force that drives the innovations in design automation of semiconductor chips.

Shape preservation is one of the fundamental topics in computer aided geometric design. In the few last years there have been important advances in the study of shape preserving representations of curves and surfaces. These advances explain the deep reasons why the bases currently used in computer aided design have good behavior and even optimal properties in some senses. The main goal of this book is to present the fundamentals and techniques related with shape preserving representations, including recent advances in this field.

This practical step-by-step guide - designed for use at your computer - gives clear, compact instructions and self-test exercises to help you learn 2-D drawing using AutoCAD. The text is written for use on all AutoCAD releases from 2000 to 2008.

Computer-aided drawing is a skill that every student in architecture, engineering, the trades and construction must learn - and ideally at the computer, actually drawing things. AutoCAD is the most widely used package in the industry but existing teaching books tend to be too wordy and focus more on technical wizardry than on how to deliver actual finished drawings using industry drafting protocols.AutoCAD Workbook gives you the skills you need for the full range of drawing types using a wide variety of commands and sequences. Each chapter - or teaching module - contains a brief introduction to the commands, explaining exactly how each one can be used, and plenty of exercises to demonstrate how to produce everything from working drawings to presentation drawings; and orthographic projection to pictorial views. Examples include residential and commercial buildings for architects and designers; steel and concrete details for civil and structural engineering; mechanical parts and assemblies for mechanical engineering; and millwork and cabinet-making for woodworking applications.
