The fall of 2016 saw the release of the widely popular First World
War video game Battlefield 1. Upon the game's initial announcement
and following its subsequent release, Battlefield 1 became the
target of an online racist backlash that targeted the game's
inclusion of soldiers of color. Across social media and online
communities, players loudly proclaimed the historical inaccuracy of
black soldiers in the game and called for changes to be made that
correct what they considered to be a mistake that was influenced by
a supposed political agenda. Through the introduction of the
theoretical framework of the 'White Mythic Space', this book seeks
to investigate the reasons behind the racist rejection of soldiers
of color by Battlefield 1 players in order to answer the question:
Why do individuals reject the presence of people of African descent
in popular representations of history?
Project management (PM), as a discipline, has been undergoing an
incremental inclusion of theories, techniques, and processes from
fields related to organizational behavior. Parallel to this has
been the dominance of Information Technology (IT) projects within
the field of Project Management. Information Technology as a
Facilitator of Social Processes in Project Management and
Collaborative Work provides emerging research that bridges the gap
between IT and project management. While highlighting the
importance of Information Technology and the social process of
work, the readers will learn how project management applies
techniques to achieve objectives through IT projects. This book is
an important resource for project managers, executives, IT
managers, consultants, students, and educators.
The role of technology in business environments has become
increasingly pivotal in recent years. These innovations allow for
improved process management, productivity, and competitive
advantage. Strategic Information Systems and Technologies in Modern
Organizations is an authoritative reference source for the latest
academic research on the implementation of various technological
tools for increased organizational productivity and management.
Highlighting relevant case studies, empirical analyses, and
critical business strategies, this book is ideally designed for
professionals, researchers, academics, upper-level students, and
managers interested in recent developments of technology in
business settings.
Advancements in technology have allowed the creation of new tools
and innovations that can improve different aspects of life. Mobile
technologies are an ever-expanding area of research that can
benefit users. Mobile Applications and Solutions for Social
Inclusion provides emerging research on the use of mobile
technology to assist in improving social inclusion in several
domains and for users in their daily lives. While highlighting
topics such as alert systems, indoor navigation, and tracking and
monitoring, this publication explores the various applications and
techniques of mobile solutions in assistive technology. This book
is an important resource for researchers, academics, professionals,
and students seeking current research on the benefits and uses of
mobile devices for end users and community acceptance.
Image and Video Processing is an active area of research due to its
potential applications for solving real-world problems. Integrating
computational intelligence to analyze and interpret information
from image and video technologies is an essential step to
processing and applying multimedia data. Emerging Technologies in
Intelligent Applications for Image and Video Processing presents
the most current research relating to multimedia technologies
including video and image restoration and enhancement as well as
algorithms used for image and video compression, indexing and
retrieval processes, and security concerns. Featuring insight from
researchers from around the world, this publication is designed for
use by engineers, IT specialists, researchers, and graduate level
students.
This new edition provides step-by-step instruction on modern 3D
graphics shader programming in OpenGL with Java, along with its
theoretical foundations. It is appropriate both for computer
science graphics courses, and for professionals interested in
mastering 3D graphics skills. It has been designed in a 4-color,
"teach-yourself" format with numerous examples that the reader can
run just as presented. Every shader stage is explored, from the
basics of modeling, textures, lighting, shadows, etc., through
advanced techniques such as tessellation, normal mapping, noise
maps, as well as new chapters on simulating water, stereoscopy, and
ray tracing. FEATURES Covers modern OpenGL 4.0+ shader programming
in Java, with instructions for both PC/Windows and Macintosh
Illustrates every technique with running code examples. Everything
needed to install the libraries, and complete source code for each
example Includes step-by-step instruction for using each GLSL
programmable pipeline stage (vertex, tessellation, geometry, and
fragment) Explores practical examples for modeling, lighting and
shadows (including soft shadows), terrain, water, and 3D materials
such as wood and marble Adds new chapters on simulating water,
stereoscopy, and ray tracing with compute shaders Explains how to
optimize code with tools such as Nvidia's Nsight debugger Includes
companion files with code, object models, figures, and more
Are you the hero that will end the reign of the evil Arch-Illager?
Journey through the world of Minecraft Dungeons in this exciting sticker and activity book, where you'll spot dangerous mobs, protect innocent villagers and unleash a horde of heroes to fight back the sprawl of evil.
Packed with stickers and activities like mazes, sudokus and spot-the-difference, this book has hours of fun that only a worthy hero will be able to complete.
Aligning Enterprise, System, and Software Architectures covers both
theoretical approaches and practical solutions in the processes for
aligning enterprise, systems, and software architectures. This book
aims to provide architects and researchers with a clear
understanding of all three types of architectures.
