Alterations in the amount of subcutaneous fat lead to significant
changes in appearance, whether from excess (as seen in bodily
obesity) or in loss of fat (as seen in facial lipodystrophy
associated with the aging process). This book incorporates the
current knowledge of the physiology of fat with the numerous
treatment modalities available today; it will be an important
review and reference source for any practitioner dealing with the
cosmetic treatment of adipose tissue and cellulite.
This book focuses on the use and significance of in vivo
reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) for non-invasive
high-resolution imaging of the skin. All of the chapters in this
hands-on guide are generously illustrated with numerous confocal
images and structured in a reader-friendly way. The contents
include detailed information on the most relevant and up-to-date
aspects of RCM, schematic drawings summarizing and explaining the
most important RCM criteria, and a chapter specifically devoted to
bridging the gap between dermoscopy, RCM, and histopathology. At
the end of each chapter, core messages recapitulate the most
pertinent aspects. Reflectance Confocal Microscopy for Skin
Diseases will be a valuable resource for all physicians involved in
the diagnosis and treatment of neoplastic and inflammatory skin
diseases.
Acknowledging the fact that hypospadiology has become a true
subspecialty, this unique book highlights and explores current
philosophy and different principles and techniques of hypospadias
repair. It offers an excellent practical guide to all surgeons
involved in the management of this common, but troublesome disease.
The aim is to help interested surgeons to develop vision,
philosophy and talent rather than just enumerate techniques. It is
well illustrated with ample colour diagrams and photographs of
various operations together with many technical tips. All surgeons
in training will benefit by reading this book in preparing for
their higher examinations and their surgical training. There is a
wide diversity of opinions, and a large number of operations have
been described. Here, the team of world class authors present an
expert overview on the management of this condition.
Cleft Lip and Palate Primary Repair introduces the main approaches
to cleft lip and palate repaired, including the principles of
design, skills and case analysis. Presenting a collection of
advanced theories and techniques in this field, richly illustrated
and with video clips of the respective operations, it is intended
for plastic surgeons, oral surgeons and paediatrics surgeons, as
well as for medical students. Bing Shi is a Professor and surgeon
at Department of Cleft Lip and Palate Repair in West China Hospital
of Stomatology, Sichuan University, China. Brian C. Sommerlad is a
Consultant Plastic Surgeon at the North Thames Cleft Center, Great
Ormond Street Hospital for Children, UK.
This text details the techniques and procedures now needed in
gynecology, with a special focus on reconstructive vaginal,
hysteroscopic, laparoscopic, robotic, and laparotomic surgery,
including that designed to preserve or enhance fertility.
Residents, clinicians, and surgeons can now understand
pathogenesis, appropriate imaging and investigation, and
application of surgical and nonsurgical strategies and techniques
for such common problems as fibroids and endometriosis. The two
volumes of this second edition contain over 20 new chapters and
over 140 instructional videos; each chapter features Key Point
summaries.
At last, a complete reference detailing one of the most commonly
performed cosmetic facial procedures - aesthetic blepharoplasty. In
Aesthetic Surgery of the Eyelids, Dr. Loeb shares his 30 years of
experience in the field. This unique volume distills the proven
techniques of an internationally respected plastic surgeon. The
"Scleral Show" chapter is the most complete treatment on this topic
and the section on surgical correction of depression deformities
masterfully demonstrates the author's original techniques.
Aesthetic Surgery of the Eyelids is an indispensable tool for all
cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgeons.
Body piercings, tattoos, and permanent make-up have become very
popular as a fashion statement in recent decades. This book guides
the reader through the world of body art. An overview is first
provided of the history and epidemiology of tattoos and piercings.
Subsequent chapters go on to examine in detail the materials and
devices used in various forms of body art, and the techniques
employed. All relevant risks and potential complications are
clearly described with the aid of color illustrations. Special
attention is paid to allergic reactions and the management of
complications. The closing chapter examines the techniques and
devices used for tattoo removal, with a particular focus on the use
of different lasers.
"Dermatological Diseases of the Nose and Ears" gives comprehensive
information about the lesions of these regions. It contains high
quality original clinical pictures, which make the diagnosis easier
in this important aspect of clinical dermatological practice. All
diseases involving the nose and ears are discussed separately with
a clinical differential diagnostic approach. As a result
approximately 600 different diseases are addressed in the book. In
clinical practice, physicians may observe lesions of the nose or
ear only. After identifying the elementary lesion, the clinician
can more easily uncover the diagnosis of a local or disseminated or
systemic disease with the help of this book. Furthermore, this
color illustrated book guides the reader to the diagnosis of the
prevalent skin tumors frequently involving these localizations,
addressing an important health care problem.
Due to the multidisciplinary approach presentation of the basic
plastic surgery knowledge with adjustment to new technologies, the
book targets not only plastic surgeons but also hand,
microsurgeons, hand and neck specialists, and breast surgeons. It
will be of great interest to young surgeons in training for fast
comprehensive overview of plastic surgery when preparing for board
exams as well as envision the future of new surgical technologies
and make the decision on their sub-specialty choice.
Light-based therapies have been a major component of dermatologic
practice. Historically, these treatment modalities have been mainly
tailored to the treatment of patients with light skin. Principles
governing use of light therapies in skin of color are less defined.
However, there is a tremendous need to understand the benefits and
limitations of these therapeutic options for dark-skinned patients
as well. Demographic data in the United States alone indicate that
the population and recipients of health care are rapidly changing
with regard to skin phototype. Physicians who are involved in the
delivery of care for patients with cutaneous problems that can be
addressed by light treatments need to be able to fully understand
the mechanisms, applications, risks, efficacy, adverse events, and
other pertinent issues in considering treatment options for their
patients with pigmented skin.
This book has been written to assist not only postgraduate
students, but also int- ested dermatologists, general
practitioners, and surgeons. During the last two decades, various
surgical therapies have been used in the tre- ment of stable
refractory vitiligo, but none of them became very popular because
of their intrinsic drawbacks, and thus could not be adopted as a
standard procedure. There has always been a need for a technique
that gives best results without complications. The commonly used
surgical procedures for the treatment of vitiligo have been
narrated in short and their characteristic drawbacks have been
pointed out. The c- lular graft technique is costly, requires a
good laboratory and infrastructure, and except for being able to
cover a wider vitiliginous area, the ultimate results are no better
than tissue grafting technique. I used the small skin particles
prepared from ultra thin or thin split thickness skin graft, the so
called "microskin graft," in the tre- ment of vitiligo effectively
with good expansion ratio, i.e., small donor skin to treat big
vitiliginous area. This procedure covers the bene? t of cellular
and tissue graft, but without their inherent drawbacks. The
microskin graft technique has been illustrated with minimum
necessary text to explain the steps. This technique is very simple
to learn and execute. It is extremely 2 cost effective and can
treat very large area up to 1,500 cm in an operative session.
Midfacial Rejuvenation is a comprehensive review of the majority of
procedures and options for midfacial aesthetic and corrective
surgery. Each contributor offers a unique approach to the midfacial
area, with detailed specifics for every technique. Chapters on
midfacial anatomy, complications and their management complete the
comprehensive coverage of the subject matter, resulting in a
reference text that will benefit every practitioner dealing with
the midfacial region. Features: * One of the first books to focus
exclusively on the midfacial area * Highly illustrated and with
clear, step-by-step instructions on performing a variety of midface
lifts, implants, sutures, grafts, and fillers * Over 300 full color
images * Includes in-depth chapters on midfacial anatomy and the
anatomic basis of aging * Multiple approaches to midfacial
rejuvenation by well-known surgeons in fields such as
oculoplastics, facial plastics, general plastics, and
dermatologists
This book systematically presents a collection of entities,
syndromes, and diseases that are diagnosed and treated by plastic
surgeons, hand surgeons, otolaryngologists, oral surgeons, and
dermatologists. The goal is to document an extensive array of signs
and visual clues that are critical to the diagnostic process,
thereby enhancing the clinician's ability to identify relevant
diagnostic features and make correct diagnoses. Skill in
recognizing deformities and disease processes by observation is of
vital importance in plastic surgery, which is very much a visual
surgical specialty. In drawing together key diagnostic signs, this
book will spare readers the onerous task of searching through
endless resources, books, and websites. A helpful appendix details
the various classification systems used in the book with the aid of
appropriate diagrams. Clinical Diagnosis in Plastic Surgery is
intended for students, residents, practicing physicians, and
surgeons in all of the affiliated fields of plastic surgery.
This comprehensive book covers anatomy, recent techniques,
postoperative care, possible complications and outcomes in

abdominoplasty. Detailed consideration is also given to the various
potential complications, with guidance on their prevention,
diagnosis, and management. The book is written by acknowledged
experts in the topics on which they write. It will be of value for
residents and fellows and more experienced surgeons in the fields
of plastic surgery, general surgery, cosmetic surgery and general
surgery.

clarify complex techniques throughout the book. Atlas of Endoscopic
Plastic Surgery represents a comprehensive description of the
current endoscopic techniques in the plastic, reconstructive an
aesthetic field. It supplies surgeons with all the information
necessary to successfully accomplish an endoscopic approach to vary
plastic surgery procedures, from carpal and cubital tunnel release,
breast augmentation and reconstruction, migraine surgery,
hyperhidrosis management, to facial aesthetic surgery, flap and
fascia lata harvesting, and mastectomy and abdominal wall surgery.
are g rowing among core specialists in the aesthetic field,
aesthetic medicine is advancing exponentially. The two authors of
this text have worked together to provide a knowled- able and
practical approach to the male patient in aesthetic medicine. April
2009 Timothy Corcoran Flynn, M.D. Clinical Professor, University of
North Carolina at Chapel Hill Medical Director, Cary Skin Center,
Cary, NC 27608, USA Preface Men are different from women in many
ways. Male aesthetics are different from female aesthetics. Most
readers would agree with this statement. However, as the majority
of our patients are still female, even cosmetic physicians may tend
to treat their male patients like female patients. This can lead to
dissatisfaction of the patient and consequently of the cosmetic
physician. As the demand for aesthetic procedures in male patients
is rising, there is a need for good textbooks on this subject. The
aim of this book is to explain the specifities of the ageing
process and facial aesthetics in men and to present the treatments
available. In addition, common skin conditions and diseases that
also influence the male aesthetic appearance will be discussed. The
book written from the perspectives of a plastic surgeon and a
dermatologist should enable us to treat our male patients better,
and by that increase the satisfaction of our patients and, last not
least, our satisfaction as the treating physicians.
This comprehensive guide covers all aspects of mastopexy and breast
reduction, ranging from anatomy to the variety of procedures in
mastopexy, mastopexy/breast reduction, and breast reduction,
preoperative care, complications, breast tumors (benign and
malignant), and medicolegal aspects.
These congenital deformities, funnel or keel chest deformities, as
well as Poland syndromes, affect a small group of patients who
suffer from aesthetic rather than functional impairment. The wide
variety of diagnoses and recommended therapies, mostly surgical
procedures, can be very confusing for patients, their parents,
physicians and surgeons. In recent years several techniques have
been refined and developed to deal with these complex problems, and
surgeons with different specialties have been operating on these
deformities, mostly as lonely experts in their respective fields.
This book should not be seen as an operation atlas but more as a
compact survey of a small group of medical conditions and the need
for flexible options for an individual therapeutic approach, based
on the combined experience of different international specialists.
Thus the book is designed for obstetricians, pediatricians,
physicians and surgical specialists alike.
This volume compiles the perspectives of a multi-author team
examining the entire spectrum of burn reconstruction and long-term
treatment. Individual chapters cover basic aspects of wound healing
and scarring, and those of plastic surgery relating to tissue
rearrangement and the use of flaps, as well as the long-term use of
skin and skin substitutes. Furthermore, topics such as
rehabilitation and scar management are addressed in detail. This
part provides detailed reconstruction guidelines divided by
anatomic region (e.g. face, hands,...), as well as aspects of
future trends and prospects in burn reconstruction, among which are
e.g. allotransplantation and bionics.
This bestselling guide to the complexities of botulinum toxins has
now been extensively revised, updated, and expanded. Now in two
volumes, Volume 1 examines clinical adaptations in the toxins in
use today, use with other injectables, use for other parts of the
body and other indications, and legal aspects, while Volume 2
documents in detail the functional anatomy and injection techniques
for the face, neck, and upper chest. No practitioner of aesthetic
medicine will want to be without this comprehensive and
authoritative guide from the international experts.
This comprehensive and detailed text deals with the diagnosis and
surgery of blepharoptosis, and will benefit any practicing
physician, fellow or resident who deals with blepharoptosis.
