Coupled System Pavement - Tire - Vehicle - A Holistic Computational Approach (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2021): Michael Kaliske,... Coupled System Pavement - Tire - Vehicle - A Holistic Computational Approach (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2021)
Michael Kaliske, Markus Oeser, Lutz Eckstein, Sabine Leischner, Wolfram Ressel, …
R5,173 Discovery Miles 51 730 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book summarizes research being pursued within the Research Unit FOR 2089, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), the goal of which is to develop the scientific base for a paradigm shift towards dimensioning, structural realization and maintenance of pavements, and prepare road infrastructure for future requirements. It provides a coupled thermo-mechanical model for a holistic physical analysis of the pavement-tire-vehicle system: based on this model, pavement structures and materials can be optimized so that new demands become compatible with the main goal - durability of the structures and the materials. The development of these new and qualitatively improved modelling approaches requires a holistic procedure through the coupling of theoretical numerical and experimental approaches as well as an interdisciplinary and closely linked handling of the coupled pavement-tire-vehicle system. This interdisciplinary research provides a deeper understanding of the physics of the full system through complex, coupled simulation approaches and progress in terms of improved and, therefore, more durable and sustainable structures.

Vibroacoustic Simulation: An Introduction to Statistical Energy Analysis and Hybrid Methods (Hardcover): A Peiffer Vibroacoustic Simulation: An Introduction to Statistical Energy Analysis and Hybrid Methods (Hardcover)
A Peiffer
R3,072 Discovery Miles 30 720 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

VIBROACOUSTIC SIMULATION Learn to master the full range of vibroacoustic simulation using both SEA and hybrid FEM/SEA methods Vibroacoustic simulation is the discipline of modelling and predicting the acoustic waves and vibration of particular objects, systems, or structures. This is done through finite element methods (FEM) or statistical energy analysis (SEA) to cover the full frequency range. In the mid-frequency range, both methods must be combined into a hybrid FEM/SEA approach. By doing so, engineers can model full frequency vibroacoustic simulations in complex technical systems used in aircraft, trains, cars, ships, and satellites. Indeed, hybrid approaches are increasingly used in the automotive, aerospace, and rail industries. Previously covered primarily in scientific journals, Vibroacoustic Simulation provides a practical approach that helps readers master the full frequency range of vibroacoustic simulation. Through a systematic approach, the book illustrates why both FEM and SEA are necessary in acoustic engineering and how both can be used in combination through hybrid methodologies. Striking a crucial balance between complex theories and practical applications, the text provides real-world examples of vibroacoustic simulation, such as fuselage simulation, interior-noise prediction for electric and combustion vehicles, train profiles, and more, to help elucidate the concepts described within. Vibroacoustic Simulation also features: A balance of complex theories with the nuts and bolts of real-world applications Detailed worked examples of junction equations Case studies from companies like Audi and Airbus that illustrate how the methods discussed have been applied in real-world projects A companion website that provides corresponding Python codes for all examples, allowing readers to work through the examples on their own Vibroacoustic Simulation is a useful reference for acoustic and mechanical engineers working in the automotive, aerospace, defense, or rail industries, as well as researchers and graduate students studying acoustics.

Algorithm Concept for Crash Detection in Passenger Cars (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2020): Andre Leschke Algorithm Concept for Crash Detection in Passenger Cars (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2020)
Andre Leschke
R4,047 Discovery Miles 40 470 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

State-of-the-art airbag algorithms make a decision to fire restraint systems in a crash by evaluating the deceleration of the entire vehicle during the single events of the accident. In order to meet the ever increasing requirements of consumer test organizations and global legislators, a detailed knowledge of the nature and direction of the crash would be of great benefit. The algorithms used in current vehicles can only do this to a limited extent. Andre Leschke presents a completely different algorithm concept to solve these problems. In addition to vehicle deceleration, the chronological sequence of an accident and the associated local and temporal destruction of the vehicle are possible indicators for an accident's severity. About the Author: Dr. Andre Leschke has earned his doctoral degree from Tor-Vergata University of Rome, Italy. Currently, he is working as head of a team of vehicle safety developers in the German automotive industry.

Deep Space Craft - An Overview of Interplanetary Flight (Hardcover, 2009 ed.): Dave Doody Deep Space Craft - An Overview of Interplanetary Flight (Hardcover, 2009 ed.)
Dave Doody
R4,666 Discovery Miles 46 660 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Deep Space Craft opens the door to interplanetary flight. It looks at this world from the vantage point of real operations on a specific mission, and follows a natural trail from the day-to-day working of this particular spacecraft, through the functioning of all spacecraft to the collaboration of the various disciplines to produce the results for which a spacecraft is designed. These results are of course mostly of a scientific nature, although a small number of interplanetary missions are also flown primarily to test and prove new engineering techniques. The author shows how, in order to make sense of all the scientific data coming back to Earth, the need for experiments and instrumentation arises, and follows the design and construction of the instruments through to their placement and testing on a spacecraft prior to launch. Examples are given of the interaction between an instrument s science team and the mission s flight team to plan and specify observations, gather and analyze data in flight, and finally present the results and discoveries to the scientific community.

This highly focused, insider s guide to interplanetary space exploration uses many examples of previous and current endeavors. It will enable the reader to research almost any topic related to spacecraft and to seek the latest scientific findings, the newest emerging technologies, or the current status of a favorite flight. In order to provide easy paths from the general to the specific, the text constantly refers to the Appendices. Within the main text, the intent is general familiarization and categorization of spacecraft and instruments at a high level, to provide a mental framework to place in context and understand any spacecraft and any instrument encountered in the reader s experience.

Appendix A gives illustrated descriptions of many interplanetary spacecraft, some earth-orbiters and ground facilities to reinforce the classification framework. Appendix B contains illustrated detailed descriptions of a dozen scientific instruments, including some ground-breaking engineering appliances that have either already been in operation or are poised for flight. Each instrument s range of sensitivity in wavelengths of light, etc, and its physical principle(s) of operation is described. Appendix C has a few annotated illustrations to clarify the nomenclature of regions and structures in the solar system and the planets ring systems, and places the solar system in context with the local interstellar environment."

Reinforcement of Rubber - Visualization of Nanofiller and the Reinforcing Mechanism (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2020): Shinzo Kohjiya,... Reinforcement of Rubber - Visualization of Nanofiller and the Reinforcing Mechanism (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2020)
Shinzo Kohjiya, Atsushi Kato, Yuko Ikeda
R2,656 Discovery Miles 26 560 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book presents the most recent description of rubber reinforcement, focusing on the network-like structure formation of nanofiller in the rubber matrix under the presence of bound rubber. The resultant filler network is visualized by electron tomography applied to rubber. In the case of natural rubber, the self-reinforcement effect is uniquely functioning, and new template crystallization is suggested. Here, the crystallites are also believed to arrange themselves in a network-like manner. These results are of great use, particularly for engineers, in designing rubber reinforcement.

Advances in Constitutive Relations Applied in Computer Codes (Hardcover, 2010 ed.): Janusz R. Klepaczko, Tomasz Lodygowski Advances in Constitutive Relations Applied in Computer Codes (Hardcover, 2010 ed.)
Janusz R. Klepaczko, Tomasz Lodygowski
R4,073 Discovery Miles 40 730 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Many important industrial applications incline toward better understanding of the constitutive properties of matter. Nowadays, the development of measurement possibilities, even in nanoscale, allows for multiscale formulations that drive to the more sophisticated models used in continuum mechanics. These phenomenological models are particularly important and useful for solutions of very concrete initial boundary value problems. Our interests are focused mainly on detailed descriptions of material behavior that depend not only on simple stress-strain relationships but also includes the strong influence of loading type, which introduces temperature, strain rate dependence, fracture, etc. Understanding these physics phenomena is of fundamental importance for successful and responsible computations. In particular, using the popular commercial programs requires deep understanding of constitutive formulations and their restrictions. These lectures are addressed to industrial users who are responsible for making crucial decisions in design, as well as, to young scientists who work on new models that describe the behavior of materials which also account the new influences and reflect the complexity of the material behavior. At the end, let me express my gratitude to the lecturers of the CISM course No. 328 on "Advances in Constitutive Relations Applied in Computer Codes", held in Udine in July 2007, who finally prepared the included materials. Unfortunately, during the preparation and collecting papers for this book, our friend and colleague Prof. Janusz R. Klepaczko passed away. This is a very big loss for the society of mechanics.

Advanced Microsystems for Automotive Applications 2005 (Hardcover, 2005 ed.): Jurgen Valldorf, Wolfgang Gessner Advanced Microsystems for Automotive Applications 2005 (Hardcover, 2005 ed.)
Jurgen Valldorf, Wolfgang Gessner
R4,317 Discovery Miles 43 170 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Since 1995 the annual international forum on Advanced Microsystems for Automotive Applications (AMAA) has been held in Berlin. The event offers a unique opportunity for microsystems component developers, system suppliers and car manufacturers to show and to discuss competing technological approaches of microsystems based solutions in vehicles.

The book accompanying the event has demonstrated to be an efficient instrument for the diffusion of new concepts and technology results. The present volume including the papers of the AMAA 2005 gives an overview on the state-of-the-art and outlines imminent and mid-term R&D perspectives. The 2005 publication reflects - as in the past - the current state of discussions within industry. More than the previous publications, the AMAA 2005 "goes back" to the technological requirements and indispensable developments for fulfilling the market needs. The large part of contributions dealing with sensors as well as "sensor technologies and data fusion" is exemplary for this tendency.

In this context a paradigm shift can be stated. In the past the development focused predominantly on the detection and processing of single parameters originating from single sensors. Today, the challenge increasingly consists in getting information of complex situations with a series of variables from different sensors and in evaluating this information. Smart integrated devices using the information deriving from the various sensor sources will be able to describe and assess a traffic situation or behaviour much faster and more reliable than a human being might be able to do.

High-Conformal Gearing - Kinematics and Geometry (Hardcover, 2nd edition): Stephen Radzevich High-Conformal Gearing - Kinematics and Geometry (Hardcover, 2nd edition)
Stephen Radzevich
R4,775 Discovery Miles 47 750 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The new edition of High-Conformal Gearing continues to address the kinematics and the geometry of conformal (Novikov) gearing and high-conformal gearing. The book deals with gears that feature convex-to-concave contact of the tooth flanks of a gear and a mating pinion. Gears of this type are commonly referred to as conformal gearings. Novikov gearing is the most widely known example of conformal gearing. The helical gearing by Wildhaber, Bramley-Moore (otherwise known as the Vivkers, Bostock, and Bramley gearing, or just V.B.B.-gearing), are well-known designs of gearing that are loosely referred to as conformal gearing. The principal differences between conformal gearing as well as high-conformal gearing and Wildhaber helical gearing are outlined. It also shows that Wildhaber helical gearing from one side, and Novikov gearing from another side, are two completely different gear systems that cannot be combined into a common gear system. This book aids mechanical, automotive, and robotics engineers specializing in gear design with successfully transmitting a rotation. It also serves as a resource for graduate students taking advanced courses in gear design.
