Art Journey Animals is the first-ever compendium of the most
soulful and inspiring animal and wildlife artworks, culled from the
winners of North Light's popular competition-books series. More
than 100 hand-selected drawings and paintings by a wide variety of
top contemporary artists have been carefully curated to capture the
wonder of nature, from the family room to the farm and the sea to
the savanna. The best of the best masterworks from AcrylicWorks,
Splash, Strokes of Genius and INCITE have been compiled into this
gorgeous, oversized full-color book, which includes observations
into the texture, innovation, style and significance of each piece.
Accompanying in-depth interviews with the artists offer meaningful
insights into nature, the creative process and the human condition.
"I hope to bring the viewer into a more intimate view and greater
connection with the animal, and through that animal, with
themselves." --Heather A. Mitchell, Shepherd Pause
A book of evocative and atmospheric photographs taken by Dick
Hawkes to create a representative record of this precious and
ecologically unique habitat - before much of it is lost to the many
threats it faces. Chalk streams have been described as England's
"rainforest". Around 85% of the world's chalk streams are in
England. They are beautiful, biologically distinct and amazingly
rich in wildlife, but are under threat from man-made issues of
abstraction, pollution from chemicals and effluent, development for
housing, and climate change. Included in the book are images of
typical habitats and species of wildlife found in chalk streams and
water meadows, highlighting those that are rare or most under
threat.

Artworks, manuscripts, printed works and wildlife sound recordings
come together in this major compendium of the greatest and
strangest representations of animals on record. Eighty detailed
case studies highlight celebrated works, including John James
Audubon's The Birds of America, Matthew Paris's Liber
additamentorum, Maria Sibylla Merian's Metamorphosis (1705), Mark
Catesby's The Natural History of Carolina, Florida and the Bahama
Islands, as well as letters from Charles Darwin, the Baburnama,
translated by Mirza 'Abd al-Rahim Khan, Japanese printed works by
Hirase Yoichiro (1914-1915), Arabic hippiatric texts and the work
of contemporary artists including Levon Biss and Jethro Buck. Rich,
newly photographed, illustrations bring these works to life, while
interactive QR technology will allow readers to listen to
recordings of the sound exhibits as they read. Expertly edited,
this powerful collection of objects prompt us to consider the
increasing importance of technology and data to our understanding
of humanity's impact on the world's faunal inhabitants.
