This captivating book, the second in a series christened A 21st
Century Palace, offers readers a transporting virtual tour through
one exceptionally dazzling palace. In this volume, we find
ourselves in Jerusalem. Few places on Earth have exuded more
mystery and power than this deified ancient city. And even fewer
designers possess the worldliness and talent to bring that mystery
and power into the third dimension in ways that both consider its
many millennia of astonishing history and also telegraph a
modernity as thoroughly fresh and modern as the current moment.
"That Bradfield takes breathtaking, albeit educated, risks that
would daunt another designer is a testament to his confidence and
maturity," says the Parisian gallerist Jean-Gabriel Mitterand. "It
is unbelievably audacious to pair a precious, yet decorative,
Claude Lalanne chandelier with a Peter Kogler table that utilises
computer technology to create what is really state-of-the-art
functional sculpture," notes Mitterand of one such daring
juxtaposition. "They were not created in the same spirit, but in
the end Geoffrey intuitively understood there was something
essentially baroque about both of them. After decades of observing
Bradfield championing artists such as the Lalannes prior to their
becoming voraciously collected by wealthy purveyors of taste," says
Mitterand, "His roster of clients has become more and more
international, and he commands more and more authority." Which is
why Bradfield finds himself now at the apex of his career. In his
Foreword to this book, the Honorable John L. Loeb, former American
Ambassador to Denmark, declares "Bradfield's rare talent has
propelled him into the upper echelon of design - and places him
amongst the few designers working in the world today who are truly
global."
Dealing with color is a complex topic: influenced by standards,
fashions, and trends, we derive our ideas and concepts from color
theories, intuition, and personal preferences. Most color
classification systems available today are based on purely
quantitative principles and include well over 1,500 colors. So how
do we choose a particular color? Building on the success of the
first edition, Katrin Trautwein presents a revised selection of 225
colors: new ones that develop a special beauty in the LED-light
replaced some previous colors. Each color is presented with a
handmade paint sample. Information on each color's composition and
origin is provided, and the features that distinguish it for
architecture and design work are described.
Gothic style transformed the urban landscape from the mid 19th
century. In this new book, discover how leading architects
reinterpreted Medieval buildings to create a dynamic style which
spread from Victorian England to the other side of the Atlantic. In
this full colour illustrated guide the author uses his own drawings
and photographs to show the reader some of the leading buildings of
the time, and explain how to identify the style on more ordinary
houses and how to recognise the details inside and out which
characterise it. Trevor Yorke is a hugely popular artist and writer
about architectural themes. His books include British Architectural
Styles; Georgian & Regency Houses Explained , and Art Deco
House Styles.
This book offers a comprehensive introduction to the planning and
implementation of this special kind of garden, taking the concrete
planning process as its guide. From design fundamentals and concept
development with different typology variants all the way to the
choice of materials, the various construction principles, and
building services, all subjects relevant to planning are
comprehensively presented. The planning information is illustrated
with numerous international examples, with projects ranging from a
"green wall" as interior design element and private house gardens
in Australia, New Zealand, and Germany all the way to award -
winning ecological office buildings in the USA and the Netherlands,
an old - age home in Sweden, and an indoor park in Canada.
The practice of interior design has become ever more specialized as
new technologies have expanded how designers can use light, space,
color, and decoration. At the same time, the study of the interior
-- private, public and corporate -- has become a complex field.
Interior design is now a rich and sophisticated discipline which
draws on many others: psychology, cultural theory, philosophy,
gender studies, anthropology, and history, as well as design
history, architecture, arts and crafts, furniture, and fashion.
"Interior Design" presents a critical introduction to contemporary
theory and practice. The book highlights the key concepts behind
the study of interiors in order to present an inter-disciplinary
overview of the subject. Always aware that design is a practical
discipline, the book is illustrated throughout with examples and
detailed case studies of interior design practice.
Dealing with color is a complex subject: influenced by standards,
fashions, and trends, we derive our ideas and concepts from color
theories, intuition, and personal preferences. The color swatches
and systems for describing color common today are based on purely
quantitative principles and include well over 1,500 colors. So how
do we choose a particular color? More than ten years ago, the color
chemist Katrin Trautwein established a pigment factory, starting
out from Le Corbusier's color palette. She now has more than 900
recipes for paint from which she has proposed - based on her work
with architects, designers, and historical preservationists - a
selection of 128 colors that produce pleasant results on their own
and also combine well. Each color is presented with a sample; their
potential uses and significance are also discussed. Katrin
Trautwein has lectured throughout the world on how to approach
colors, given seminars, given expert opinions, advised architects,
taught painters, and worked as a restorer.

Fiona Barratt-Campbell established FBC Interiors in 2006 and is
increasingly recognized as one of Britain s leading figures in the
international world of interior design. Barratt-Campbell, with over
sixteen years experience in the industry, draws on the history of
the rugged landscape of Northumberland, where she grew up, and her
designs are shaped and influenced by the area s underlying geology.
Barratt-Campbell s silhouettes are bold and geometric and her
finishes are intricate, with materials ranging from solid cast
bronze and sandblasted wood to Brazilian fish skin. Her signature
style combines sophisticated neutrals interlaced with bursts of
accent color, and although this more modern theme remains core to
her interiors, she experiments with antiques, particularly
twentieth-century pieces. In her first-ever book, Barratt-Campbell
offers a wealth of experience and advice on achieving your
signature style via in-depth looks at the homes profiled here,
making this a definitive master class in home design. This book is
a must-have for any decorator wanting to give their home a touch of
Barratt-Campbell s distinctive style: the perfect blend of luxury
and functionality. She reveals her trade secrets and shares her
expert knowledge to ensure that your decorating project, however
big or small in scale, achieves the look and finish you want.
For some forty years, Susi and Ueli Berger's work has been guided
by the credo that 'only a new idea justifies a new piece of
furniture'. Contrasts between product design and object art, and
suitability for everyday use characterise their designs. A playful
provocativeness and the combination of rationality and sensuality
are additional hallmarks of the Bergers. In 2010, they were awarded
Switzerland's most prestigious national design prize, the Grand
Prix Design for their joint lifetime achievements at the interface
of art, architecture, and design. Susi Berger-Wyss, born 1938 in
Lucerne, trained as a graphic designer and worked with an
advertising agency in Berne before she met and married Ueli Berger
in 1962. Apart from their close collaboration in furniture and
interior design, Susi continued to work as a freelance graphic
designer and also collaborated with architects, developing colour
and material concepts for interiors. Ueli Berger, born 1937 in
Berne, trained as a painter and decorator and also attended classes
at the city's school of art and design. 1959-61, he completed his
artistic education during extended stays in Paris and Copenhagen
and worked with renowned Swiss interior designer Hans Eichenberger.
Until his passing in 2008, Ueli worked as an artist - creating a
much recognised oeuvre in painting, drawing, and sculpture - and
designer, and also held a number of teaching appointments at
universities and art schools in Switzerland. Featuring a wealth of
previously unpublished original drawings, plans, photographs, and
promotion materials, as well as a catalogue raisonné of Susi and
Ueli Berger's collaborative work and an illustrated biography, this
groundbreaking book offers the first-ever survey of their life and
oeuvre. It is published in conjunction with a retrospective
exhibition at Zurich's Museum für Gestaltung in summer 2018. Text
in English and German.

Space Planning for Commercial Office Interiors, 2nd Edition,

requirements, developing and translating ideas into design
concepts, drafting layouts, and ultimately combining these layouts
into well-organized, effective floor plans replete with offices,
workstations, support rooms, and reception areas. Covering issues
such as circulation, spatial and square footage calculations,
building codes, adaptation to exterior architecture, ceiling
systems, barrier-free designs, and LEED requirements along the way,

and construction management as well as professional designers and
office managers anticipating a corporate move. This second edition
includes a more thorough look at programming and the steps
