Designing the French Interior traces France's central role in the development in the modern domestic interior, from the pre-revolutionary period to the 1970s, and addresses the importance of various media, including drawings, prints, pattern books, illustrated magazines, department store catalogues, photographs, guidebooks and films, in representing and promoting French interior design to a wider audience. Contributors to this original volume identify and historicise the singularity of the modern French domestic interior as a generator of reproducible images, a site for display of both highly crafted and mass produced objects, and the direct result of widely-circulated imagery in its own right. Der Gedanke die meist glatten Wande so auszukleiden, dass diese moglichst wenig Schall reflektieren, ist vollig korrekt. Doch Eierpappen sind dazu kaum geeignet. Audio Engenieer Marco Grementieri von der SAE Zurich hat die Eigenschaften der Eierpappen in seiner bauakustisch gut fundierten Diplomarbeit untersucht. Er kann darin nachweisen, dass mit Ausnahme einer guten Dampfung bei 1kHz die Eierpappe auch mit einfachen Akustikbau-Werkstoffen nicht konkurrieren kann. Alle Akustikplatten aus dem Baumarkt sind wesentlich effizienter und klangneutraler. Dabei ist die pyramidale Struktur der Eierpappe ein guter Ansatz: Ware die Pappe flauschig, poros und schwer genug, konnte sich tatsachlich Schall darin verlieren. Aber die Pyramiden mussen gross sein, damit auch langere Wellenlangen (tiefe Frequenzen) gedampft werden. Die fachgerechte Verringerung der Reflektion eines Proberaums oder auch eines jeden anderen Raumes ist eine anspruchsvolle Aufgabe. Deshalb haben sich bereits viele Ingenieure den Themen Raumakustik und Schallschutz gewidmet. Aber auch namhafte Designer entwickeln Konzepte und Produkte um einen Raum auditiv besser wahrnehmen zu konnen. Neben den bereits erwahnten Akustikbaustoffen, die meist schon wahrend der Planung eines Gebaudes berucksichtigt und eingesetzt werden, kann man die akustischen Bedingungen in Raumen auch nach einer Realisierung optimieren. Since the publication of Edward Said's groundbreaking work Orientalism 35 years ago, numerous studies have explored the West's fraught and enduring fascination with the so-called Orient. Focusing their critical attention on the literary and pictorial arts, these studies have, to date, largely neglected the world of interior design. In der folgenden Hausarbeit sollen die Funktionen der sogenannten Jugendprotestkleidung" naher beleuchtet, und damit die Intentionen ihrer Trager offenbart werden. Dabei konzentriere ich mich auf die Jugend(sub)kulturen der 50er und 60er Jahre: Halbstarke, Teddy-Boys, Existenzialisten, Rocker, Hippies und Gammler. Fur mich war es besonders interessant zu sehen, was die einzelnen Gruppierungen der Jugendlichen ausmacht und wie sie ihrem Kleidverhalten gewisse Protestnoten verleihen. Wogegen oder gegen wen richtet sich ihr Protest? Sind politische oder gesellschaftskritische Motive vorzufinden? Und ferner, gibt es Kleidungsstucke, die starken Einfluss auf die Mode allgemein haben?

Metall gehort zu den altesten Werkstoffen der Menschheit. Seine Nutzungs- und Verarbeitungsweise ist auch ein Merkmal fur die zivilisatorische Entwicklung (Bronze-, Eisenzeit) Wir sind Metallen seit jeher naher als anderen Materialien, denn sie sind in unserem Blut, in der Luft, die wir atmen, in den Lebensmitteln die wir essen, und in deren Verpackungen. Vor allem leben und arbeiten wir in Gebauden aus Metall. Denn Metalle sind Bausteine der Architektur und bieten auch Halt fur alle anderen sichtbaren Materialien. Heute verfugen wir uber mehr Werkstoffe als jemals zuvor. Etwa 3/4 der Elemente im Periodensystem aber sind Metalle. Bisher ist es gelungen daraus weit uber 10.000 Legierungen, also Verbindungen, herzustellen. In der vorliegenden Hausarbeit, mochte ich auf zwei besondere Metalle - Corten-Stahl und Alucobond - und deren Herstellung, Eigenschaften und Verwendung eingehen. Die Fahigkeit Metall herzustellen und zu beherrschen ist also bereits jahrtausendealt, aber die Erfindung von Kunststoff ist kaum mehr als ein Jahrhundert her. Obwohl dieses Material vergleichsweise jung ist, ist Kunststoff einer der vielseitigsten und meist genutzten Werkstoffe uberhaupt. Wahrend des letzten Jahrhunderts hat sich dieses Material rasant weiter entwickelt und eroffnet uns enorme Moglichkeiten. Kunststoffprodukte erfullen viele unserer taglichen Bedurfnisse und tragen mittlerweile sogar dazu bei, dass menschliche Organe durch solche aus Kunststoff ersetzt werden konnen. Schon 1913 erklarte Luigi Russolo, futuristische Maler und Komponist in seinem Manifest L arte dei rumori" die entdeckten Gerausche der Stadt zur Kunst. Die kulturelle Auseinandersetzung mit Musik und Akustik begann bekanntlich sehr viel fruher. Wie aber entwickelte sich daraus die sog. Sound-Art" weiter? Was unterscheidet die Klangkunstwerke denn uberhaupt von Musikstucken? Welche Rolle spielt die Klangkunst innerhalb der Bildenden und zeitgenossischen Kunst? Einen umfassende Annaherungsversuch an die Geschichte der Klangkunst und eine Einordnung innerhalb verschiedener Deutungsebenen unternimmt Peter Kiefer mit seiner 2010 erschienenen Publikation Klangraume der Kunst," gleichzeitig Hauptquelle der vorliegenden Hausarbeit. Ferner setzt sich das Projekt SEE THIS SOUND"3 (bestehend aus Ausstellung, Webarchiv und Symposium) mit Gegenwart und Geschichte der Verbindung von Bild und Ton in Kunst, Medien und Wahrnehmung auseinander. Ausgehend von der engen Verschrankung der kulturellen Bild- und Tonproduktion in der heutigen Erfahrungswelt und der Allgegenwart audiovisueller Produkte und Strukturen, stellt es unterschiedliche Werke zeitgenossischer Kunst und Kunstwissenschaft dar. Auch aus diesem Kompendium wird vergleichend zitiert werden. Insbesondere die Beitrage von Golo Follmer (auch Essayist in Klangraume der Kunst) sollen vergleichend herangezogen werden. Denn die Klangkunst ist komplex und vielschichtig und darin vor allem nicht oder nur schwierig zu dokumentieren. Auch aufgrund dessen habe ich mich im Mittelteil der Hausarbeit dazu entschieden, einen Tontrager zu integrieren, da sich anhand von Bildmaterial die Kunst furs Ohr" nicht hinreichend darstell
