Advances and Technical Standards in Neurosurgery (Hardcover, 1997 ed.): F. Cohadon, V. V. Dolenc, J. Lobo Antunes, H Nornes,... Advances and Technical Standards in Neurosurgery (Hardcover, 1997 ed.)
F. Cohadon, V. V. Dolenc, J. Lobo Antunes, H Nornes, J.D. Pickard, …
R4,051 Discovery Miles 40 510 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

As an addition to the European postgraduate training system for young neurosurgeons we began to publish in 1974 this series of Advances and Technical Standards in Neurosurgery which was later sponsored by the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies. This series was first discussed in 1972 at a combined meeting of the Italian and German Neurosurgical Societies in Taormina, the founding fathers of the series being Jean Brihaye, Bernard Pertuiset, Fritz Loew and Hugo KrayenbtihI. Thus were established the principles of European co operation which have been born from the European spirit, flourished in the European Association, and have throughout been associated with this series. The fact that the English language is well on the way to becoming the international medium at European scientific conferences is a great asset in terms of mutual understanding. Therefore we have decided to publish all contributions in English, regardless of the native language of the authors. All contributions are submitted to the entire editorial board before publi cation of any volume. Our series is not intended to compete with the publications of original scientific papers in other neurosurgical journals. Our intention is, rather, to present fields of neurosurgery and related areas in which important recent advances have been made. The contributions are written by specialists in the given fields and constitute the first part of each volume.

Molecular Imaging I (Hardcover, 2., Bearb. U. E): Wolfhard Semmler, Markus Schwaiger Molecular Imaging I (Hardcover, 2., Bearb. U. E)
Wolfhard Semmler, Markus Schwaiger
R7,667 Discovery Miles 76 670 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

With the increasing interest in the experimental and clinical application of molecular imaging many institutions create research groups or interdisciplinary centers focussing on the complex development process of this new methodology. The aim for this textbook of molecular imaging is to provide an up to date review of this rapidly growing field and to discuss basic methodological aspects necessary for the interpretation of experimental and clinical results. Emphasis is placed on the interplay of imaging technology and probe development, since the physical properties of the imaging approach need to be closely linked with the biologic application of the probe (i.e. nanoparticles and microbubbles). Various chemical strategies are discussed and related to the biologic applications. Reporter-gene imaging is being addressed not only in experimental protocols, but also first clinical applications are discussed. Finally, strategies of imaging to characterize apoptosis and angiogenesis are described and discussed in the context of possible clinical translation.

Congenital Diseases and Syndromes - An Illustrated Radiological Guide (Hardcover, 2009 ed.): Jarrah Ali Al-Tubaikh, Maximilian... Congenital Diseases and Syndromes - An Illustrated Radiological Guide (Hardcover, 2009 ed.)
Jarrah Ali Al-Tubaikh, Maximilian F. Reiser
R5,255 Discovery Miles 52 550 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Radiology to me is an art more than a science; an art of imaging the human body, and an art of extracting information from an image. Radiology today is a vital specialty that almost no other medical specialty can work without. Congenital anomalies and syndromes are complex subjects in all medical specialties. They require knowledge of the normal anatomy and of the embryological basis of organogenesis. The importance of recognizing a congenital malformation or an anomaly, which can be the tip of an iceberg of a more complex syndrome, is to prevent future manifestations of a s- drome if possible or to reduce its severity. Due to this concept, I had an interest in studying how to use the radiological modalities in diagnosing congenital malfor- tions as early as possible. Although radiology offers very powerful tools for diag- sis, the basics of medicine are still the main tools to be used for diagnosis. History, observation, clinical examination, and laboratory investigations are essential elements for diagnosis, which need to be used before radiology investigations are initiated. The idea of this book is based on a simple principle: it is to link radiology to these basic medical tools. The book is written for junior radiologists, radiology students, and doctors interested in congenital malformations and syndromes in any specialty. Each disease is represented with a de? nition, description, etiology, diagnostic cri- ria, main symptoms, and its typical diagnostic radiological features on the modern radiological modalities available today.

Fetal Medicine - Prenatal Diagnosis and Management (Hardcover): Andre Boue Fetal Medicine - Prenatal Diagnosis and Management (Hardcover)
Andre Boue; Translated by Michel Vekemans, Lola Cartier
R4,023 Discovery Miles 40 230 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This new book will enable family practitioners, obstetricians and pediatricians to answer the concerns of the families in their care. It is the first book to make information on this important topic so easily accessible to clinicians. The book is firmly rooted in clinical practice and based on many years of experience, much of it involving the development and implementation of new techniques for examining the fetus in utero. The techniques now available are assessed and better ways to identify pregnancies which are eligible to their application are proposed. The authors describe both the sampling and laboratory techniques available. Other sections cover both predictable and unpredictable pregnancy risks from genetic diseases to abnormal ultrasound, including the possibilities for laboratory evaluation, and the risks and limitations. Throughout the book, the special status of the fetus as a patient is emphasized and the concerns and questions of families are considered, making this the first fully comprehensive and authoritative volume on fetal medicine.

Classic Radiologic Signs - An Atlas and History (Hardcover): M. E. Mulligan Classic Radiologic Signs - An Atlas and History (Hardcover)
M. E. Mulligan
R5,328 Discovery Miles 53 280 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book illustrates 100 classic radiologic signs with radiograms alongside illustrative photographs for memory aids and clarification. Accompanying text explains the history and meaning of the descriptive name. The entry for "dromedary hump," for example, shows a typical x-ray of this condition with a photograph of a dromedary camel that clearly shows how the name fits the sign. Dr. Mulligan says, "In honor of the 100th anniversary of Roentgen's discovery, this book illustrates and elaborates on the history of 100 of the more classic radiologic signs. If we are to use these terms with full understanding, we must have the ability to visualize the object depicted by the term, imagine its radiographic appearance, and transfer that picture to the radiographic image before us. This book is intended to help practitioners and students of our art accomplish that task."
