Advances In Mri Of The Knee For Osteoarthritis (Hardcover): Janet Blumenfeld, Sharmila Majumdar, Roland Krug, Julio Carballido,... Advances In Mri Of The Knee For Osteoarthritis (Hardcover)
Janet Blumenfeld, Sharmila Majumdar, Roland Krug, Julio Carballido, Gabby Blumenkrantz, …
R2,899 Discovery Miles 28 990 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Osteoarthritis is a condition in which low-grade inflammation results in joint pain, and it is the most common joint disease. Interactions between all of the major joint tissues, including the articular cartilage, synovium, bone marrow, subchondral bone, trabecular bone, and muscle, have been implicated in osteoarthritis. Magnetic resonance images have been used to quantify the cartilage morphology, volume and thickness, and focal defects, and may reflect changes in the biochemical composition of articular cartilage.

This book brings together contributions from key investigators in the area of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for osteoarthritis of the knee. Written by a multidisciplinary group of scientists, engineers, and clinicians, this book is the first to cover MRI as a new emerging modality for the diagnosis of osteoarthritis, and presents new findings in both basic and clinical science research.

Leanne Bricker, Julian N. Robinson, Baskaran Thilaganathan
R1,643 R1,549 Discovery Miles 15 490 Save R94 (6%) Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Multiple pregnancies are associated with higher risks for both mother and babies. Women with multiple pregnancies have an increased risk of miscarriage, anemia, hypertensive disorders, haemorrhage, and postnatal illness. These pregnancies are more likely to need an operative delivery, and maternal mortality is generally 2.5 times that of singleton births. Fetuses are at increased risk for anatomic and genetic anomalies, growth abnormalities, prematurity, and several physiological problems related to monochorionicity. This book provides a much needed, up-to-date guide to the management of multiple pregnancies. Presented with a uniform approach to all chapters, information is easily navigable, evidence-based, and highly practical. Heavily illustrated, particularly with ultrasound images - the cornerstone of management of multiple pregnancies - this book will appeal to obstetricians and specialists in maternal-fetal medicine, midwives and ultrasonographers and will improve outcomes for mothers and babies.

Enteroscopy, An Issue of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Clinics, Volume 19-3 (Hardcover): David R. Cave Enteroscopy, An Issue of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Clinics, Volume 19-3 (Hardcover)
David R. Cave
R1,712 Discovery Miles 17 120 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

The small intestine has, until 2001, been an organ largely inaccessible to conventional endoscopy. Since that time a variety of endoscopic technologies have become available that have transformed small bowel diagnosis and therapy with a concomitant increase in interest in this organ and its disorders. This issue is divided into two sections; first, the new technologies are presented and include video capsule endoscopy, single and double balloon enteroscopy, and very recently the innovative Spirus screw technology. An article on comparison of these new technologies and the evolving techniques of CT and MRI is included. Indications, contraindications, complications and therapeutic adjunctive devices are discussed. The second section addresses the application of these technologies to specific diseases and discusses how these technological advances have changed their management. An article on intra-operative enteroscopy and its utilization in this new era is included.

Cardiovascular Imaging (Hardcover): Yi-Hwa Liu, Frans Wackers Cardiovascular Imaging (Hardcover)
Yi-Hwa Liu, Frans Wackers
R1,858 Discovery Miles 18 580 Ships in 2 - 4 working days

A host of imaging techniques are available to clinical cardiologists, including nuclear imaging, echocardiography, computerized tomography, and magnetic-resonance imaging. Chamber size, ventricular function, valvular function, coronary anatomy, and myocardial perfusion are among a wide array of cardiac characteristics that can all be assessed noninvasively. Cardiovascular Imaging systematically reviews each of these major techniques and provides clinical data from well-designed research studies. Following a brief overview of non-invasive cardiac imaging and the stress modalities used to detect coronary disease, case-based chapters are devoted to each of the various imaging techniques. The final chapter provides a glimpse of future possibilities, particularly with respect to molecular imaging. The text is illustrated throughout with amply-sized images. Demonstrating the values and limitations of the imaging techniques, the book enables practitioners to determine which test, in which patient population, and for which purpose would be the most appropriate to use.

Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance in Heart Failure, An Issue of Heart Failure Clinics, Volume 5-3 (Hardcover): Raymond J. Kim,... Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance in Heart Failure, An Issue of Heart Failure Clinics, Volume 5-3 (Hardcover)
Raymond J. Kim, Dudley J. Pennell
R1,726 Discovery Miles 17 260 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) has evolved into a first-line imaging tool for several cardiac pathologies over the past decade. It is continuing to evolve as new applications are found and old ones are refined. This issue has a dual focus. One aspect of focus is on the areas in which CMI is the best modality, such as assessment of cardiac morphology and cardiac function, evaluation of pericardial disease and intracardiac masses, and detection of coronary artery disease. The other focus is on areas in which the role of CMI is expanding, such as in the assessment of left and right ventricular diastolic function.
