Cool White: Perfect for painters working in cool light situations, such as painting under an overcast sky. Based on our Titanium Zinc White formula, it has a perfect balance of blue pigment to lighten and cool other colours, while maintaining their hue.
Titanium Buff: A light, yellow-grey made from a compound of titanium dioxide and iron oxide. This popular colour is valuable in figurative and landscape painting.
Gamblin Flake White Replacement: The first true nontoxic alternative to Flake White. It's the leanest of the Gamblin whites and a terrific underpainting white. Its beautiful opalescent quality is of special interest to portrait painters. Flake White Replacement has all the working properties of traditional Flake White: long ropey stroke, warm colour, translucency and short brush mark. Not only does our FWR come without the lead but it also doesn't suffer from the fast drying time of traditional formulations, which contributes to the cracking of oil paintings over time.Pigment: Titanium dioxide (PW 6)Vehicle: Alkali refined linseed oilLightfastness I, Series 1, OPAQUE
Transparent Earth Orange: A color prized by contemporary masters, this is a truly transparent version of Burnt Sienna. These new hydrated Mars colors give painters more clarity in transparency and higher tinting strength. Excellent for glazing.Pigment: Transparent Mars Yellow, Transparent Mars Red (PY 42, PR 101)Vehicle: Alkali refined linseed oilLightfastness I, Series 3, TRANSPARENT
Titanium Buff: A light, yellow-grey made from a compound of titanium dioxide and iron oxide. This popular colour is valuable in figurative and landscape painting.
Zinc White: The most transparent white, Zinc is recommended for glazing, scumbling and alla prima painting. Compared with all other whites, Zinc White has less hiding power. Zinc White dries slowly, so painters who want to paint wet into wet over a long time will find it useful. Because it's brittle, painters should not consider it as a general painting white unless painting on panel.Pigment: Zinc oxide (PW 4)Vehicle: Alkali refined linseed oilLightfastness I, Series 1, SEMI-TRANSPARENT
Zinc White is a semi-opaque tinting and scumbling white. Produces cool tints with excellent resistance to yellowing.
Azo Yellow is a brilliant primary yellow, less opaque than Cadmium yellow light and more lightfast than Hansa Yellow.
Cadmium Yellow is a warm, bright sunny yellow.
Cerulean Blue is a rich, middle value, red leaning blue with excellent resistance to yellowing.
M. Graham's Cobalt Blue is a bright, clean, primary blue with excellent handling properties.
Dioxazine Purple has a dark purple mass tone with a bright, blue-violet tint. Bluer than Quinacridone Violet.
Hansa Yellow is a bold, primary yellow. Brighter and less opaque than Cadmium Yellow Light, and cooler than Azo Yellow.
M. Graham's Ivory Black is a pure, rich black leaning to the warm side of the color spectrum. The go-to black for mixing and creating useful greys. Much stronger than most Ivory Blacks.
Phthalocyanine Blue is a brilliant green shade of blue with vibrant and intense high tinting strength.
Pyrrol Red is an intense primary red with vibrant, intense tinting strength. Exceptionally lightfast, this is a true high performance pigment.
Titanium White is a carefully balanced all-purpose white that will not 'chalk' tints. Superb feel under the brush and superior color retention.
Titanium White Sunflower is warmer and more opaque than M. Graham's regular Titanium White. A zinc free white ground with excellent handling characteristics.
Modern, fully transparent version of Burnt Sienna with higher gloss, greater clarity and ease of handling.
Deep mahogany mass tone with a fiery red glazing capability. Soft and creamy in texture, it has an easily brushed consistency and a smooth, glass-like surface when dry.
Ultramarine Blue is a red shade Ultramarine with depth and intensity. A genuine replacement for the original lapis pigment. Wonderful alone or mixed with Anthraquinone Red for violets.
Van Dyke Brown is M. Grahams warmest black. Perfect for sfumato modeling.
Opaque, bright earthen yellow with a muted tint. Great for creating muted yellows, especially in combination with Cadmium Yellow.
Each colour is ground to enhance the beauty and luminosity specific to that particular pigment. Some colours will feel slightly gritty; others extremely smooth. Pigments are ground in pure, premium, alkali-refined and PH- balanced linseed oil and made in batches no larger than five gallons at a time. This provides total control over the product, much like the late nineteenth-century French colour makers. All the materials are hand measured, and every ounce of paint is scrutinized. The paint is packed in 37 ml and 150 ml non-reactive aluminum tubes. Larger quantities of paint are packed in aluminium cans using only the purest materials.
In 1985, following extensive research, Old Holland presented a revolutionary range of 168 oil paints, each with the highest degree of lightfastness. Traditional, non-lightfast pigments were replaced with modern lightfast pigments with the same colour characteristics as the traditional ones. Thanks to the highest possible concentration of pigment in each colour, the paint has an unprecedented colour strength. Within the unique range of 168 colours, there is a wide range of opaque and transparent colours, each with the highest possible brilliance (intense) and clarity (clean) characteristics. The only medium used for these oil paints is cold-pressed extra virgin linseed oil, to obtain an optimum oxidisation (drying) of the paint. This increases durability and brushstroke spread. Together, these characteristics result in an oil paint of unequalled quality. |
