Taking at-home entertaining to an entirely new level, sophisticated L.A. hostess Stephanie Booth Shafran--recently named by the Salonniere as one of the top hostesses in Los Angeles--has a gift for celebration. From the table settings to the decor to the color-coordinated menus, every party she hosts showcases a myriad of inspired elements. In her first book, she shows readers how to set the stage for eight parties, from an elegant housewarming in her Jeffrey Bilhuber-decorated home to a classic California pool party to a festive Christmas brunch. She also shares advice on palette creation--blue and white for a ladies' charity luncheon, and deep burgundies for a gentleman's wine and cigar party. Each chapter ends with tips for that theme, whether it is entertaining alfresco or having parties for a charitable purpose. Shafran also includes a guide to her party essentials: inspiration, invitations, flowers, tablescape, linens, seating, the bar, and select recipes.
Their Idea: When a movie buff and a Chef fall in love... Ideas are powerful if you are bold enough to share those, so they discussed their thoughts and passions until the architecture was in place to house their visions... Whenever she talked with him about food items mentioned in movies that she adores, he was inspired to create entire meals based upon those ideas. He wrote the recipes and cooked the meals, and then they dined with incredible movie-inspired meals while watching those movies. One evening, over dessert, they discussed how much fun they had combining movies with meals and how other people would enjoy this new twist on dinner and a movie too. This was the birth of the idea for this book. Ideas are powerful if given focus and direction, so they started to plan and to work... As a Chef and author, he is amazing at offering recipes that taste awesome and can be created at home by beginners. As a movie buff and editor, she gives him the inspiration, tests meals, does the dishes, translates his "Chef speak" for the recipes, and edits his books. Ideas are powerful if given support, so they created a project on kickstarter.com to obtain the financial support needed to create this cookbook... The project received 37 Kickstarter backers, who made the project a possibility, and we thank you. You, who believed in our vision and in our potential to fulfill that vision with this book. Ideas are powerful if given a voice to communicate... Each movie inspired recipe was crafted with accompanying recipes into a meal of three courses (appetizer, entree, dessert) which complement each other. Each meal was designed to serve four people so that you can share the fun with family and friends. The MIM Trivia Game was crafted with hints of different difficulty levels, to see if you can guess the movie that inspired the one recipe from each three course meal. The mess was formed into a book draft, then Lisa did the editing (and the dinner dishes ) until everything was as it should be. The Result of the Idea... We are delighted to offer this unique book to you. We strive to find work that always inspires us and continues our journey to learn, try, fail, postpone, succeed, and love together. We hope you not only enjoy this book enough to share it with your family and friends, but we also hope to become people who you want to follow for sharing in our future projects.

Taking up cooking as a hobby can be an enormous amount of fun. Learning recipes is part of the process. Logging various recipes you come across in a journal ensures you always have access to those special ones you wish to visit and revisit time and time again. Not having a journal could mean you may forget a great recipe so the journal becomes a reference manual of sorts. The journal can also be used to rewrite and tweak recipes so they are altered to your own desired specifications. Writing things down in a journal also allows you to organize your recipes in a way that would not be possible without a clear log.

2011 Reprint of 1951 Illustrated First Edition. Full facsimile of the original edition, not reproduced with Optical Recognition Software. For almost 4 decades, Saucier was the publicist for the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City. His 1951 cocktail classic book, Bottoms Up includes over 200 drinks, fully indexed, plus twelve risqu [for the period] illustrations by twelve different artists. A typical review of a cocktail follows the actual recipe: THE LAST WORD: Damrak Gin / Green Chartreuse / Luxardo Maraschino / Lime / Sugar"This cocktail was introduced around here about thirty years ago by Frank Fogarty, who was very well known in vaudeville. He was called the 'Dublin Minstrel, ' and was a very fine monologue artist." So wrote Ted Saucier in 1951 when introducing this drink in Bottoms Up. Saucier credits the drink to the Detroit Athletic Club, and if the bartender's recollection is correct, that would place the Last Word as a Prohibition-era cocktail. If that's the case, then the Last Word is one of the finest cocktails to come out of that bleak period in American history. Four ingredients, two of them fairly exotic, working in equal parts to create perfect harmony.
