Es ist schwer zu prophezeihen, wie sich nach dem Kriege dic Ver haltnisse gestalten werden. "Venn WIT aus friiheren Beobachtun gen Schliisse ziehen diirfen, so wird die Geburtenziffer, von einer voriibergehenden Steigerung nach dem Kriege abgesehen, weiter sinken. Da sich auch die Sterblichkeitsziffer erfreulicherweise in Deutsch land in den letzten Jahren so stark verringerte, so war immer noch ein nicht unerheblicher UberschuB der Geburten iiber die Todesfalle zu verzeichnen. J edoch zeigte sich schon in den letzten Jahren VOl' dem Kriege aIs beunruhigendes Symptom, daB beson ders in den groBen Zentren der stadtischen BevoIkerung die Ab nahme der Geburtenziffer zum Teil eine so hohe war, daB die Zahl der Sterbefalle die Zahl der Geburten iibertraf. Hygieniker, Nationalokonomen, GeburtsheIfer und andere haben sich ausgiebig mit dieser Frage beschaftigt, ohne eine einheitliche Antwort zu finden, wie man hier heIfen kann. Uns schien es eine nicht unwesentliche Vorarbeit der Geburts heIfer zu sein, einige Klarheit darin zu schaffen, ob die Abnahme der Geburtenziffer nur durch eine gewollte, oder teilweise auch, wie Gruber schon mehrfach hervorhob, eine ungewollte Frucht barkeitsverminderung bedingt sei."

In Love and Freedom, Jorge Ferrer proposes a paradigm shift in how romantic relationships are conceptualized, a step forward in the evolution of modern relationships. In the same way that the transgender movement surmounted the gender binary, Ferrer defines how a parallel step can-and should-be taken with the relational style binary. This book offers the first systematic discussion of relationship modes beyond monogamy and polyamory, as well as introduces the notion of "relational freedom" as the capability to choose one's relational style free from biological, psychological, and sociocultural conditionings. To achieve these goals, Ferrer first discusses a number of critical categories-specifically, monopride/polyphobia, and polypride/monophobia-that mediate the contemporary "mono-poly wars," that is, the predicament of mutual competition among monogamists and polyamorists. The ideological nature of these "mono-poly wars" is demonstrated through a review of available empirical literature on the psychological health and relationship quality of monogamous and polyamorous individuals and couples. Then, after showing how monogamy and polyamory ultimately reinforce each other, Ferrer articulates three relational pathways to living in-between, through, and beyond the mono/poly binary: fluidity, hybridity, and transcendence. Moving beyond that binary opens a fuzzy, liminal, and multivocal relational space that Ferrer calls novogamy. The aftermath of Algeria's revolutionary war for independence coincided with the sexual revolution in France, and in this book Todd Shepard argues that these two movements are inextricably linked. Sex, France, and Arab Men is a history of how and why-from the upheavals of French Algeria in 1962 through the 1970s-highly sexualized claims about Arabs were omnipresent in important public French discussions, both those that dealt with sex and those that spoke of Arabs. Shepard explores how the so-called sexual revolution took shape in a France profoundly influenced by the ongoing effects of the Algerian revolution. Shepard's analysis of both events alongside one another provides a frame that renders visible the ways that the fight for sexual liberation, usually explained as an American and European invention, developed out of the worldwide anticolonial movement of the mid-twentieth century.
