This book is designed for progressive coaches who are motivated to
consider and potentially adjust their current coaching or training
programs so that they are getting the most out of contemporary
Sport Psychology and Skill Acquisition research. A variety of Sport
Psychology and Skill Acquisition issues are reviewed by two
international experts in the respective fields, Jean Fournier and
Damian Farrow. Based on their applied experiences working in their
respective high performance sport systems in France and Australia
they have identified the gaps between theory and current practice.
In some instances, this gap is because the theory itself is not
definitive, while in other instances the theory challenges
traditional coaching approaches. What makes this book different
from many other texts on Sport Psychology and Skill Acquisition is
that the material is presented in a manner most applicable to
coaches and athletes. The chapters are short and concise, there is
an absence of academic referencing, and numerous practical examples
are provided to illustrate how the theory is applied to practice.
The book is divided into two sections. After an introductory
chapter by both authors, Section one consists of four chapters
focused on Sport Psychology issues presented by Jean Fournier and
then Section two reviews four Skill Acquisition issues presented by
Damian Farrow.

Worthy to Win - Emerging from fear and self-doubt, When you know
the potential is there. Worthy to Win is a 8-step mental
performance process that establishes a mindset for success. The
process helps people overcome the fears and doubts that inevitably
lead to self-sabotage. Using a competitive sports metaphor, Worthy
to Win takes the reader on a quest to understand the secrets to
unlocking an individuals potential through getting to know
themselves at a core level.
Children and Yourth in Sport offers a comprehensive,
multidisciplinary view of issues of concern to youth sport
educators, researchers, and program administrators. This text
effectively bridges the gap between research and application by
including helpful guidelines for use in administration of youth
sport programs and in coaching or teaching young athletes. The
book's content and style is sufficiently challenging to serve as a
text for upper level undergraduate or graduate youth sport courses;
yet it is clear and interesting so nonprofessional audiences will
also find it informative and enjoyable. Features specifically

-from the foreword by Matt Fitzgerald, author of "Racing Weight"
and "The New Rules of Marathon and Half Marathon Nutrition"
"Runners spend so much time on training: week after week after
week. Sometimes, it seems that that's all we talk about. But the
end goal is the race. Unfortunately, we don't always put in the
same dedication to planning a successful race as we do planning our
training. Racing Wisely provides that often missing ingredient of
race preparation and will help runners put all their great training
to good use when it counts-the race. Sage Rountree understands
performance, and this guide will prove invaluable for goal-oriented
athletes."
-Greg McMillan, coach, McMillan Running, and author of "YOU (Only
Faster)"
""Racing Wisely" delivers exactly what you hope for from a smart
yogi-runner-triathlete: thoughtful insight about goals, intentions,
and actions told in an engagingly conversational, down-to-earth
style. I love that this book offers practical and philosophical
advice for the whole spectrum of athletes, from serious goal-driven
competitors to more experiential but just as passionate casual
athletes. A great addition to the thinking runner's library."
-Tish Hamilton, Executive Editor, "Runner's World"
The physical side of strength training has had plenty of attention
from many authors, but the crucial mental side of the game is often
overlooked & neglected. Learning to optimize the mental side of
your game & truly experience "getting in the zone" will take
you to a new level.
Three sports in one event? Triathletes must be crazy, right? At the
age of thirty-one, Lucy Fry was pretty certain she knew her limits:
triathlon was not for her. But as increasing numbers of her female
friends signed up to tri, Lucy couldn't help wondering: what was it
about this sport that women found so transformative? The time had
come to find out. Over one year, five triathlons and hundreds of
training hours, Lucy discovers the competition and camaraderie, how
to wear a sports bra under a wetsuit, whether getting over 'jelly
legs' makes you a more resilient human being - and that maybe she
doesn't know her limits after all... Funny, warm and engaging, Run,
Ride, Sink or Swim is for the tri-curious and the tri-hard, and for
any woman looking to make the transition from sofa to start line.
Eye-opening contributions from the stars of game make this a
powerful, groundbreaking investigation into the mind of the
professional golfer. The perfect gift for Father's Day. *
SHORTLISTED FOR THE TELEGRAPH SPORTS BOOK AWARDS * Professional
golf is the most remorseless of sports, unique in the complexity of
its demands. Technical perfection must be produced in short,
concentrated bursts of synchronised movement. Huge mental strength
is required. Why, then, do we know so little about what it takes to
succeed - even survive - at the highest level? What separates the
good from the great? What are the rituals of preparation and
execution? How does an elite team come together? In a truly
groundbreaking expose of professional golf, Michael Calvin and
Thomas Bjorn - captain of the 2018 European Ryder Cup Team -
capture the distinctive nature of the game, and the principles and
philosophies of players who dominate the world rankings. With
unprecedented access to the European Tour players, and in-depth
interviews with the European Ryder Cup team, Calvin reveals a sport
which operates entirely within the finest margins of excellence.
The Golf Swing Exposed shows you how the swing works. It exposes
the essential drivers and the swing's natural and instinctive
action. How do the great players move? What aspects of the swing do
they have in common? And how do they do it? Golfers know the quest
for a reliable swing can be a frustrating experience. The good news
is your brain, hands and feet control the action; they are the team
that harmonize balance and acceleration. Armed with this knowledge
you can start to build your own reliable swing. Color photographs
throughout the book illustrate and underscore the swing's innate
simplicity. The legendary Ben Hogan revealed his own swing secrets
in the foreword to a 1985 edition of his celebrated book. What he
had to say holds vital information for all golfers. The Ben Hogan
chapter also features rare photographs taken at his last recorded
swing demonstration. The pictures, alongside his canny advice, go
right to the heart of the matter. The Golf Swing Exposed busts the
common myths like weight shift, head movement and centrifugal
force. This book shows you easy ways to test and feel the real
forces that control your swing. And if your swing goes wrong,
you'll know why and how to fix it.
