In Becoming a Scuba Diver, Conrad Blickenstorfer invites you to accompany him on the journey through his first 250 dives. Starting with the first breath underwater, to learning scuba gear, and the initial certification dives, Blickenstorfer describes what it means becoming a diver. After initial doubts and frustrations, there are the first dives at Lake Tahoe, then advanced classes and dives in Florida's sinks, caverns and rivers, and finally the magical first ocean dives in Roatan. From there it's on to drift diving in Cozumel, the first liveaboard experience in the Caribbean, the first thrilling encounters with sharks, diving wrecks and kelp, playing with seals, diving with the majestic giant mantas of Socorro, and swimming with whale sharks off Isla Mujeres and in the Sea of Cortez, Mexico. Between diving experiences and on his way to his first 250 dives, the author contemplates scuba-related topics: altitude diving, dive computers, nitrox, cave diving, rebreathers, nitrogen narcosis, Hollywood's portrayal of scuba, Cousteau's legacy, humorous encounters, and self-analyis as a diver.
This book contains a selection of workouts from an experienced master swimmer. It is intended for those who want to keep in shape and possibly compete in USMS Nationals like its author. If you are over 40, fit and disciplined, yet have no more than two hours a day to spare, often less, sometimes every other day, and if you believe yourself to be sufficiently fit and disciplined to improve and compete, the book is for you. This book contains basic advice on workout planning, cycling, as well as basics of nutrition, stretching and dry exercise routines. Its main purpose, however, was to collecti swimming workouts and sort them out into macrocycle periods, in order to make your pool time more productive and enjoyable. These routines are intentionally printed in larger letters, one per page, so that you can copy them and take them with you to the pool. Sarah P. Condor-Fisher is a former Olympic swimmer, coach, personal trainer and nutritional analyst.

Scuba divers are dying in caves, on wrecks, and in open water. These are not explorers pushing the boundaries of the known world, and they are not scientist seeking to prove new concepts and expand our understanding of the marine environment. These are ordinary divers. The man buying a coffee ahead of us in the morning; the woman we see walking her dog on our street. Brothers, sisters, aunts and uncles. Someone's wife or husband, mom or dad. Just regular people who are diving for the fun of it. These deaths are tragic, life-altering, devastating, a terrible waste. Worst of all, they are totally unnecessary, a sad mistake and often completely avoidable. In Staying Alive, Steve Lewis tells us there are very few diving accidents. Most of the heart-breaking events claiming the lives of scores of recreational divers are mistakes that result from established limits being ignored. Lewis revisits the survival guidelines originally proposed by the legendary Sheck Exley and shows us in eight straightforward steps how simple it is for sport and technical divers to avoid becoming a statistic.

I spent my summers growing up at the Jersey Shore and many of those summers as an ocean lifeguard. As you can imagine, I am very comfortable in the ocean. During those summers, 13 children drowned after hours when the beaches were not guarded. I wanted to do something to help prevent this from happening again and that's when I came up with the idea to write a children's book with the hopes that parents would read the book to their children. My book would then educate the parents and children at the same time about water safety in the ocean. If this book saves one life, it's worth everything to me. Follow the Sands family on their vacation to the shore town of Seaside Delight. Little Sean and his sister, Summer, along with their parents will learn some important safety tips about swimming in the ocean while making some very special friends. Find out who their new friends are and what valuable lessons they learn on this vacation.

Jim Doty is one of the greatest ocean swimmers to come out of the Boston area. His swims from Nantasket to Revere, around Cape Ann, Two-way Boston Light, Two-way Graves Light, etc. are legendary. In addition to his accomplishments as a marathon ocean swimmer, Jim is credited with founding the New England Marathon Swim Association in 1976. In that same year, he re-started, after a lapse of 36 years, the Boston Light Swim - the oldest marathon swim in the country. Doty's remarkable swims and accomplishments are chronicled in this book.
The Ultimate Diver's Log Book (Mini) is the colourful 50-dive log book. This is a thoughtfully-designed, book-format scuba diving log book. It contains boxes for all the essential details a sport diver might like to record in a clean simple layout. Each dive gets a two-page spread to record all the dive site information. You can also log kit details you might want to refer to again. There is scaled graph paper (time/depth) to record dive profiles (or use however you wish). Almost a whole page is available for sketches, notes and stamps. As with the larger Ultimate Diver's Log Book there is the innovative Visibility Scale - a range of colours from which to pick the water colour and compare with the visibility. There is also room at the front for personal details and lined pages at the back for additional notes. Two colourful pages per dive. Space for 50 dives. Log depths, times, buddies, gases and consumption. Visibility Scale. For recreational divers this is the Ultimate Diver's Log Book (Mini). Slightly shorter and narrower than it's big brother (Ultimate Diver's Log Book: ISBN 978-1-909455-10-6) but the same great quality.

This book was inspired by swimmers I have met over the years who train in small groups or on their own repeating the same boring sets over and over. When I set out to write this book I was surprised at the limited workout material that was available for swimmers. The goal was to take my favorite workouts and share them with you to increase your workout creativity which will transfer into positive results. Each of the 365 sets has four ability levels identified as gold, silver, bronze, and novice to suite every swimmers needs. The sets are grouped by length based on time and sorted by type of training. Enjoy your swimming knowing that the rest of this year you will never have to see the same set again
A retired world class swimmer gives you an insider's secrets on
competitive swimming.
