Artists' Watercolours are characterized by their rich, free-flowing colour, which never leaves any hard lines at the edge of a wash. Their unparalleled performance is a product of precise formulations, based on the suspension of the very finest quality pigments in an aqueous solution of gum Arabic. Only the best pigments, regardless of cost, are used in the manufacture of Artists’ Watercolours.Artists’ Watercolours are formulated to maximise the varying tint strengths of different pigments.

This superb artist grade paper from Saunders Waterford has a watermark in the corner for authenticity and 4 deckle edges which are visually beautiful and perfect for float framing. Please note that while Saunders Waterford High White papers are noticeably whiter than the traditional Saunders Waterford paper, they still have a pale cream appearance. This is because it is not currently possible to whiten the paper to a bright white without compromising light-fastness by using Optical Brightening Agents. The whiter shade of Saunders Waterford High White paper is achieved by adding a high white lightfast pigment with good long-life properties, as used in some watercolour paints. Artists grade watercolour paper is archival which means it will not discolour or fall apart over time and is made of 100% cotton rag. This paper is much more durable than lower grades of paper because it is gelatine surface sized and it is mould-made, both of which mean it can take scrubbing of the surface without falling apart. Please note, this product has a Not (cold pressed) surface. The surface of the paper is slightly textured, and is not suitable for extremely detailed work. Most painters will find it suitable for most purposes. For more information on the production and properties of watercolour papers, click here.

Isaro Watercolour Paints are handcrafted in Belgium by Isabel Roelofs, who comes from two generations of paintmakers and is a descendant of well-known Belgian artist, Willem Roelofs. Isaro Watercolours have been carefully crafted so that they have maximum transparency, providing luminosity and excellent layering capabilities. Handmade in an atelier in Belgium, Isaro use only high-quality gum arabic and pigments in their watercolours. Gum arabic varies in colour from very pale yellow to dark brown, and the gum darkens on contact with the tannin in acacia bark. Isaro have selected the best acacia gum that when dissolved in water gives a clear solution. This maintains the purity and luminosity of the pigments. Glycerine and honey are also used in very precise amounts to enable the paint to remain supple. Isaro use a single-flower honey, the honey of acacia, so that the honey is also very clear.
