Analysis of Substances in the Gaseous Phase, Volume 28 (Hardcover): E.Smolkova- Keulemansova, L. Feltl Analysis of Substances in the Gaseous Phase, Volume 28 (Hardcover)
E.Smolkova- Keulemansova, L. Feltl
R10,305 Discovery Miles 103 050 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Nowadays, there are increasing demands for the control and specification of all aspects of industrial manufacturing. There is also a growing need to understand various biological processes and conditions for agricultural production, and concern for protection of the environment and human health. These factors have made it imperative to develop adequate methods for the analysis of gaseous substances or substances that can be converted to the gaseous state. It is not only necessary to apply known and developed methods correctly, but novel analytical procedures must also be found. Instrumentation should be improved and the applications of these methods will have to be extended.

The present volume provides a comprehensive description of the state-of-the-art and of future possibilities in the analysis of gaseous substances. In the individual chapters the following themes have been discussed; the theoretical basis for the methods, a description of the instrumentation and the steps necessary in actual analyses and an outline of the principal areas in which each method can be employed. Both classical methods that are still useful for the solution of analytical problems using simple instrumentation, and the newest methods in the field are described. Special attention is paid to modern electrochemical and spectroscopic methods, and to methods based on a number of physical principles. Gas chromatography is discussed in the greatest detail because of its specially important position in modern analytical chemistry.

The book should be well received by the analytical public and should be extremely useful to students and workers in scientific research laboratories and in fields dealing with environmental protection.

F.A.A. Dallas, H. Read, R.J. Ruane, I.D. Wilson
R4,150 Discovery Miles 41 500 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

For many years TLC has suffered from the image of being a low sensitivity, low resolution, non-quantitative teehnique, suitable for chemists, but not a tool for real ehromatographers. Whilst perhaps true in the past this attitude no longer ref1eets the eapabi1ities of modern instrumenta1ized TLC in all its many forms. This volume represents the proceedings of a meeting in Brighton in 1987 whieh formed part of a eontinuing series of one and two day events on TLC organized by the Chromatographie Soeiety either alone or, like this one, in eonjunetion with other learned bodies. These meetings are designed to keep ehromatographers up to date with the latest deve10pments and help promote a more positive image of TLC. lan Wilson November 1987 v CONTENTS The Chromatographic Society xi Contemporary Thin-layer Chromatography: An introduction IoD. Compact Modeling - Principles, Techniques and Applications (Hardcover, Edition.): Gennady Gildenblat Compact Modeling - Principles, Techniques and Applications (Hardcover, Edition.)
Gennady Gildenblat
R4,804 Discovery Miles 48 040 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Most of the recent texts on compact modeling are limited to a particular class of semiconductor devices and do not provide comprehensive coverage of the field. Having a single comprehensive reference for the compact models of most commonly used semiconductor devices (both active and passive) represents a significant advantage for the reader. Indeed, several kinds of semiconductor devices are routinely encountered in a single IC design or in a single modeling support group. Compact Modeling includes mostly the material that after several years of IC design applications has been found both theoretically sound and practically significant. Assigning the individual chapters to the groups responsible for the definitive work on the subject assures the highest possible degree of expertise on each of the covered models.

Further, the author describes a novel online multidimensional chromatography system combined with automated online isotope labeling, which significantly improves the throughput, sensitivity and accuracy of quantitative proteomics. In addition to the development of new technologies, the author investigates the proteome and phosphoproteome expression changes of clinical hepatocellular carcinoma tissues and the hippocampi of mice with Alzheimer s disease. The work in this thesis has led to several publications in high-profile journals in the fields of analytical chemistry and proteome research."

Spontaneous Symmetry Breaking, Self-Trapping, and Josephson Oscillations (Hardcover, 2013): Boris A. Malomed Spontaneous Symmetry Breaking, Self-Trapping, and Josephson Oscillations (Hardcover, 2013)
Boris A. Malomed
R2,797 Discovery Miles 27 970 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This volume collects a a number of contributions on spontaneous symmetry breaking. Current studies in this general field are going ahead at a full speed. The book present review chapters which give an overview on the major break throughs of recent years. It covers a number of different physical settings which are introduced when a nonlinearity is added to the underlying symmetric problems and its strength exceeds a certain critical value. The corresponding loss of symmetry, called spontaneous symmetry breaking, alias self-trapping into asymmetric states is extensively discussed in this book.
The book presents both active theoretical studies of spontaneous symmetry breaking effects as well as experimental findings, chiefly for Bose-Einstein-Condensates with the self-repulsive nonlinearity, and also for photorefractive media in optics.

Device Architecture and Materials for Organic Light-Emitting Devices - Targeting High Current Densities and Control of the... Device Architecture and Materials for Organic Light-Emitting Devices - Targeting High Current Densities and Control of the Triplet Concentration (Hardcover, 2011 ed.)
Sarah Schols
R2,653 Discovery Miles 26 530 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Device Architecture and Materials for Organic Light-Emitting Devices focuses on the design of new device and material concepts for organic light-emitting devices, thereby targeting high current densities and an improved control of the triplet concentration. A new light-emitting device architecture, the OLED with field-effect electron transport, is demonstrated. This device is a hybrid between a diode and a field-effect transistor. Compared to conventional OLEDs, the metallic cathode is displaced by one to several micrometers from the light-emitting zone, reducing optical absorption losses. The electrons injected by the cathode accumulate at an organic heterojunction and are transported to the light-emission zone by field-effect. High mobilities for charge carriers are achieved in this way, enabling a high current density and a reduced number of charge carriers in the device. Pulsed excitation experiments show that pulses down to 1 us can be applied to this structure without affecting the light intensity, suggesting that pulsed excitation might be useful to reduce the accumulation of triplets in the device. The combination of all these properties makes the OLED with field-effect electron transport particularly interesting for waveguide devices and future electrically pumped lasers. In addition, triplet-emitter doped organic materials, as well as the use of triplet scavengers in conjugated polymers are investigated.
