Compact Modeling - Principles, Techniques and Applications (Hardcover, Edition.): Gennady Gildenblat Compact Modeling - Principles, Techniques and Applications (Hardcover, Edition.)
Gennady Gildenblat
R5,186 Discovery Miles 51 860 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Most of the recent texts on compact modeling are limited to a particular class of semiconductor devices and do not provide comprehensive coverage of the field. Having a single comprehensive reference for the compact models of most commonly used semiconductor devices (both active and passive) represents a significant advantage for the reader. Indeed, several kinds of semiconductor devices are routinely encountered in a single IC design or in a single modeling support group. Compact Modeling includes mostly the material that after several years of IC design applications has been found both theoretically sound and practically significant. Assigning the individual chapters to the groups responsible for the definitive work on the subject assures the highest possible degree of expertise on each of the covered models.

Dermot Walls, Sinead T Loughran
R4,624 Discovery Miles 46 240 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

A prerequisite for elucidating the structure and function of any protein is the prior purification of that protein. This necessity has led to the development of many purification schemes and chromatographic methods for the isolation of native proteins from complex sources. In Protein Chromatography: Methods and Protocols, leading researchers present clear protocol-style chapters that are suitable for newcomers and experts alike. The book opens with vital topics in protein biochemistry, addressing such areas as protein stability and storage, avoiding proteolysis during chromatography, protein quantitation methods including immuno-qPCR, and the contrasting challenges that microfluidics and scale-up production pose to the investigator, and then it segues into key methods involving the generation and purification of recombinant proteins through recombinant antibody production and the tagging of proteins, amongst other means, as well as many variations on classic techniques such as ion-exchange and immunoaffinity chromatography. Written in the highly successful Methods in Molecular Biology (TM) series format, protocols chapters include introductions to their respective subjects, lists of the necessary materials and reagents, step-by-step, readily reproducible laboratory protocols, and tips on troubleshooting and avoiding known pitfalls. Authoritative and up-to-date, Protein Chromatography: Methods and Protocols will greatly aid scientists in establishing these essential techniques in their own laboratories and furthering our understanding of the many imperative functions of proteins.

Spontaneous Symmetry Breaking, Self-Trapping, and Josephson Oscillations (Hardcover, 2013): Boris A. Malomed Spontaneous Symmetry Breaking, Self-Trapping, and Josephson Oscillations (Hardcover, 2013)
Boris A. Malomed
R3,087 Discovery Miles 30 870 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This volume collects a a number of contributions on spontaneous symmetry breaking. Current studies in this general field are going ahead at a full speed. The book present review chapters which give an overview on the major break throughs of recent years. It covers a number of different physical settings which are introduced when a nonlinearity is added to the underlying symmetric problems and its strength exceeds a certain critical value. The corresponding loss of symmetry, called spontaneous symmetry breaking, alias self-trapping into asymmetric states is extensively discussed in this book.
The book presents both active theoretical studies of spontaneous symmetry breaking effects as well as experimental findings, chiefly for Bose-Einstein-Condensates with the self-repulsive nonlinearity, and also for photorefractive media in optics.

Device Architecture and Materials for Organic Light-Emitting Devices - Targeting High Current Densities and Control of the... Device Architecture and Materials for Organic Light-Emitting Devices - Targeting High Current Densities and Control of the Triplet Concentration (Hardcover, 2011 ed.)
Sarah Schols
R2,927 Discovery Miles 29 270 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Device Architecture and Materials for Organic Light-Emitting Devices focuses on the design of new device and material concepts for organic light-emitting devices, thereby targeting high current densities and an improved control of the triplet concentration. A new light-emitting device architecture, the OLED with field-effect electron transport, is demonstrated. This device is a hybrid between a diode and a field-effect transistor. Compared to conventional OLEDs, the metallic cathode is displaced by one to several micrometers from the light-emitting zone, reducing optical absorption losses. The electrons injected by the cathode accumulate at an organic heterojunction and are transported to the light-emission zone by field-effect. High mobilities for charge carriers are achieved in this way, enabling a high current density and a reduced number of charge carriers in the device. Pulsed excitation experiments show that pulses down to 1 us can be applied to this structure without affecting the light intensity, suggesting that pulsed excitation might be useful to reduce the accumulation of triplets in the device. The combination of all these properties makes the OLED with field-effect electron transport particularly interesting for waveguide devices and future electrically pumped lasers. In addition, triplet-emitter doped organic materials, as well as the use of triplet scavengers in conjugated polymers are investigated.

Modeling for Preparative Chromatography (Hardcover): Georges Guiochon, Bingchang Lin Modeling for Preparative Chromatography (Hardcover)
Georges Guiochon, Bingchang Lin
R6,549 Discovery Miles 65 490 Ships in 9 - 15 working days

Nonlinear chromatography is a field that borders both chemical engineering and physical chemistry. In turn, the theory of nonlinear chromatography is the foundation of preparative chromatography, a separation process that has lately become of considerable interest in the pharmaceutical industry. Only chromatography is sufficiently flexible and powerful to satisfy the practical requirements encountered in most difficult separations of pharmaceuticals and pharmaceutical intermediates.
Since "nonlinear" behaviour is strictly a mathematical concept, it is difficult to leave mathematics out of any fundamental study of nonlinear chromatography. Therefore, this book will describe the different mathematical models of chromatography, examine the assumptions on which they are based, consider their properties, and discuss their solutions. All this will be done from a mathematical analysis point of view, paying considerable attention to the influence of nonlinear behavior on the results.
-Clear and simple discussions of the basic physico-chemical phenomena involved in HPLC.
-Clear and complete presentation of the relevant properties of the mathematical tools involved.
-Detailed analysis of nonlinear effects.

Introduction to Thin Film Transistors - Physics and Technology of TFTs (Hardcover, 2013 ed.): S. D. Brotherton Introduction to Thin Film Transistors - Physics and Technology of TFTs (Hardcover, 2013 ed.)
S. D. Brotherton
R3,821 Discovery Miles 38 210 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

"Introduction to Thin Film Transistors" reviews the operation, application and technology of the main classes of thin film transistor (TFT) of current interest for large area electronics. The TFT materials covered include hydrogenated amorphous silicon (a-Si: H), poly-crystalline silicon (poly-Si), transparent amorphous oxide semiconductors (AOS), and organic semiconductors.

The large scale manufacturing of a-Si: H TFTs forms the basis of theactive matrix flat panel display industry. Poly-Si TFTs facilitate the integration of electronic circuits into portable active matrix liquid crystal displays, and are increasingly used in active matrix organic light emitting diode (AMOLED) displays for smart phones. The recently developed AOS TFTs are seen as an alternative option to poly-Si and a-Si: H for AMOLED TV and large AMLCD TV applications, respectively. The organic TFTs are regarded as a cost effective route into flexible electronics.

As well as treating the highly divergent preparation and properties of these materials, the physics of the devices fabricated from them is also covered, with emphasis on performance features such as carrier mobility limitations, leakage currents and instability mechanisms. The thin film transistors implemented with these materials are the conventional, insulated gate field effect transistors, and a further chapter describes a new thin film transistor structure: the source gated transistor, SGT.

The driving force behind much of the development of TFTs has been their application to AMLCDs, and there is a chapter dealing with the operation of these displays, as well as of AMOLED and electrophoretic displays. A discussion of TFT and pixel layout issues is also included.

For students and new-comers to the field, introductory chapters deal with basic semiconductor surface physics, and with classical MOSFET operation. These topics are handled analytically, so that the underlying device physics is clearly revealed. These treatments are then used as a reference point, from which the impact of additional band-gap states on TFT behaviour can be readily appreciated.

This reference book, covering all the major TFT technologies, will be of interest to a wide range of scientists and engineers in the large area electronics industry. It will also be a broad introduction for research students and other scientists entering the field, as well as providing an accessible and comprehensive overview for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes.
