Cantonese is an official language of Hong Kong and Macau, and the
dominant dialect of Chinese spoken in the province of Guangdong.
Spoken by nearly 60 million people worldwide, it is understood by
much of the Chinese diaspora population across the world and rivals
Mandarin as the lingua franca of south China and ethnic Chinese
living abroad. Unique among all the Chinese dialects, Cantonese
also has a writing system that is distinct from Mandarin Chinese
and makes use of characters generally not understood by
non-Cantonese speakers. Contains 4,000 dictionary entries, and each
entry includes Cantonese characters and intuitive phonetics. Also
provides concise grammar and pronunciation sections.

Matthias Kramer (1640-1729), language teacher and lexicographer in
Nuremberg, was one of the most important foreign-language experts
of his age. His life and work are described here in detail. The
theory and practice of bilingual French-German lexicography are
discussed with reference to Kramer's -Dictionnaire roial-
(1712-1715). The volume also contains the first edited collection
of Kramer's dictionary prefaces, which document the surprisingly
modern perspective of his theories. The chapters of the book are:
1. Reception of Kramer's Work; 2. Biography; 3. Bibliography; 4.
Origins of the Dictionary; 5. Macrostructure; 6. Microstructure; 7.

Originally published in 1913, this book contains a dictionary of
words in English and Galla, an earlier term for the Oromo language
spoken in Eastern Africa. Foot occasionally includes illuminating
notes about Galla life in his definitions, such as comments on
local wildlife and religious practices. This book will be of
interest to anyone with an interest in colonial Africa or the
history of Eastern African languages.
Thomas Wright (1810 77), a respected folklorist and medievalist,
wrote prolifically on a wide range of subjects. His work is,
however, considered broad rather than deep, and his extensive
output, while impressive, sometimes came at the expense of quality.
Wright was involved in many academic societies, and co-founded the
British Archaeological Association in 1843. Much of his work
promoted the use of vernacular literature for research into the
Middle Ages, and this dictionary, first published in 1857, was
compiled to help readers of historical literature navigate
unfamiliar vocabulary. It lists obsolete words and phrases, with
particular emphasis on those of Old English and Anglo-Norman
origin, and obscure or dialectal words. Many of the definitions
include illustrative examples or quotes as well as etymologies.
Examples include belly-timber, meaning 'food', and dweezle, a
Northamptonshire word that means 'to dwindle away'. Volume 2 covers
the letters G-Z."

This is a concise, pocket sized English to Lao and Lao to English
Dictionary
Prior to the compilation of the original edition of this dictionary
in 1966, the most comprehensive English to Lao dictionary was the
LAA (Lao-American Association) Dictionary. At that time, no
Lao-English dictionary was available. Now, a great deal of time has
passed since the first Tuttle edition of the "English-Lao,
Lao-English Diciontary" was published in 1970. During that time,
the dictionary has become the basic communication tool between Lao
people and English speakers all over the world. It is a handy
volume with many user aids such as romanized equivalents of Lao
script, tone numbers indicating the tone of each syllable,
vocabulary selected on the basis of frequency of use, and guidance
on how to look up words both in the Lao and English alphabetized
lists for those encountering either language for the first time.
having been completely revised, this language tool is all the more
essential.
Translated by the author from his Tre Dialoghi, published in 1989
by Bollati Boringhieri Editore. In this lively collection of
dialogues, Bencivenga endeavors to be true to the nature of
philosophical practice- its constant superseding of its own
results, its open-endedness, its paradoxical turning of a position
into its opposite- as he explores issues ranging from feminism to
metaphysics, from the philosophy of science to aesthetics, as well
as the intrinsically dialogic nature of philosophical activity
itself.
