Historians of the various tools trades have long wanted a work specifically on saws and this, the first, is an attempt to match the detail and scholarship of the best that cover planes, cutlery, spanners and measuring tools. The author is a frequent writer and lecturer on saws and the history of their manufacture, and is able to base his work on 15 years of original research and the building of a personal collection of saws - probably the largest in the world - which is housed with the renowned Ken Hawley Collection in Sheffield's Kelham Island Industrial Museum. Together, these collections form a unique research base and visitor attraction. This scholarly book is illustrated with almost 2000 photographs, the majority by the author, and with its listings of saw makers and dealers forms the most comprehensive directory to date of British names in the tool trades.

Das wirtschaftlich eminent wichtige und sich rapide entwickelnde Gebiet der rechnerunterstutzten Systeme in der Fertigung zeigte einen grossen Bedarf fur ein solches Handbuch. Durch dieses Buch soll einerseits dem Experten ein Leitfaden und Nachschlagewerk in die Hand gegeben und andererseits das Management bei der Entscheidungsvorbereitung auf diesem Gebiet unterstutzt werden. Es soll eine Hilfestellung sowohl bei der Beurteilung und Auswahl als auch bei der Entwicklung und Einfuhrung solcher Systeme geben. Unter den vielen von Computer Aided Manufacturing beeinflussten Unternehmensbereichen ist besonders die Entwicklung aufzufuhren, in der heute haufig schon mit CAD-Techniken gearbeitet wird. Der Bereich CAD wird eingehend in dem ebenfalls von der GI initiierten CAD-Handbuch behandelt und ist daher in dem vorliegenden CAM-Handbuch ausgespart. Das CAD- und das CAM-Handbuch sind somit als zwei sich erganzende Werke zu betrachten. Der Leser, der sich intensiv mit CAM befasst, sollte genugend Grundkenntnisse uber CAD besitzen, um die Zusammenhange zwischen diesen beiden Technologien zu verstehen.

Generally, welding produces welding deformation and residual stress in the products, which influences the quality and performance of the products. Although many engineers and researchers have made great effort how to control these incidents, they have still remained unresolved. "Welding Deformation and Residual Stress Prevention" provides a unique computational approach to the prediction of the effects of deformation and residual stress on materials. The goal is to provide engineers and designers with the ability to create their own computational system for predicting and possibly avoiding the problem altogether.

Subtitled 'use-wear analysis in some Final Upper Palaeolithic sites in the Basque country' this study discusses tool function using evidence from two sites in Northern Spain, Santa Catalina and Berniollo. Dieses Buch ist der erste Teil einer auf zwei Bande angelegten Monographie, die in der Absicht entstand, den Fachleuten, die in der Forschung oder Industrie auf den Gebie- ten der Werkstoffoberflachen und der diinnen Schichten tatig sind, sowie den Studie- renden eine EinfUhrung in die Grundlagen und eine Ubersicht iiber die vieifaltigen Anwendungen und Verfahren der Oberflachen- und Diinnschichttechnologie zu ge- ben. Diese Arbeit beruht auf einer langjahrigen Tatigkeit des Verfassers auf dies em Gebiet sowohl in der Industrie als auch an der Hochschule. In ihrem praktischen Einsatz haben technische Oberflachen und diinne Schichten eine Vielzahl von Funktionen zu erftillen. Um nur einige Beispiele zu nennen: in der Optik als reflexionsmindemde, reflexionserhohende oder absorbierende Schichten; in der Elektrotechnik als Kontakte, Widerstande und Kondensatoren; in der Mikroelek- tronik als Metallisierungs-und Passivierungsschichten fUr hochintegrierte Schaltkreise und Halbleiter-Bauelemente; femer beim Aufbau von Systemen der integrierten Op- tik, der Optoelektronik, der Kryoelektronik, der Energietechnik und der biomedizini- schen Technik. In der chemischen Verfahrenstechnik und im Maschinenbau werden funktionelle diinne Schichten als Schutz gegen VerschleiB, Korrosion und Hochtem- peraturoxidation, aber auch als reibungsarme Schichten, Katalysatorschichten und de- korative Schichten verwendet.
