At the Fun Fair is a low level phonics reading book. It is designed for the final week of Phase 3 of Reading Stars Phonics and uses all the letters, sounds and high frequency words met in this level. At the Fun Fair covers the first set of basic letters and sounds that students meet in the early stages of a phonics teaching programme. It corresponds to Phase 3 of Letters and Sounds, the UK Government's synthetic phonics programme, but can be used for phonics reading practice to support any phonics programme. This title is part of Ransom Reading Stars, a structured reading programme for learning to read english. The series starts with a complete range of phonics titles to support any phonics teaching programme, and then provides a range of structured readers following the Book Band system.
There are 6 books at Level 3: Book 13 practises 'ai ee igh' Book 14 practises 'oa oo oo' Book 15 practises 'ar or ur' Book 16 practises 'ow oi ear' Book 17 practises 'air er er' Book 18 practises 'ue ue ure' Each sound is explored through an Oxford Reading Tree scene, first the children should say the sound and trace the letters in the panel, before looking at the key word and picture and saying the sound, there is a list of decodable words for them to read and then they can try to find all words they can that include the focus sound within the picture, some are labelled some are not! Consolidation activities include matching, tracing and reading. There are a total of 42 books in this series from Level 1 to Level 5 (Letters and Sounds Phase 1 to Phase 5)
There are 6 books at Level 4: Book 19 'Revise and Blend' Book 20 'Revise and Blend' Book 21 practises 'ay, oy, ea, ie' Book 22 practises 'ow, ew, ew, ou' Book 23 practises 'ir, aw, eer, are' Book 24 practises 'ce, ea, o, ed' Each sound/alternative spelling is explored through an Oxford Reading Tree scene, first the children should read the decodable word lists, before trying to find the words within the picture. Consolidation activities include spelling activities and reading short texts. There are a total of 42 books in this series from Level 1 to Level 5 (Letters and Sounds Phase 1 to Phase 5)
