Fuzzy And Neural Approaches in Engineering (Hardcover, New): LH Tsoukalas Fuzzy And Neural Approaches in Engineering (Hardcover, New)
LH Tsoukalas
R5,010 Discovery Miles 50 100 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Provides a truly accessible introduction and a fully integrated approach to fuzzy systems and neural networks—the definitive text for students and practicing engineers Researchers are already applying neural networks and fuzzy systems in series, from the use of fuzzy inputs and outputs for neural networks to the employment of individual neural networks to quantify the shape of a fuzzy membership function. But the integration of these two fields into a "neurofuzzy" technology holds even greater potential benefits in reducing computing time and optimizing results. Fuzzy and Neural Approaches in Engineering presents a detailed examination of the fundamentals of fuzzy systems and neural networks and then joins them synergistically—combining the feature extraction and modeling capabilities of the neural network with the representation capabilities of fuzzy systems. Exploring the value of relating genetic algorithms and expert systems to fuzzy and neural technologies, this forward-thinking text highlights an entire range of dynamic possibilities within soft computing. With examples specifically designed to illuminate key concepts and overcome the obstacles of notation and overly mathematical presentations often encountered in other sources, plus tables, figures, and an up-to-date bibliography, this unique work is both an important reference and a practical guide to neural networks and fuzzy systems.

Written by one of the leading authorities in the field, this book explores the potential of reluctance synchronous machines, an emerging type of motor which fully exploits the advantages of power electronics and new materials. The book covers RSM's possible topologies, their characteristics, and their existing and future applications, demonstrating their competitive possibilities for applications from computer peripherals through robotics to electric traction for rail transport. Electrical engineers concerned with machinery design and performance will find the material covered of great value to research and their work.

As the requirements for low power consumption and very small physical dimensions in portable, wearable and implantable medical devices are calling for integrated circuit design techniques using MOSFETs operating in the subthreshold regime, this book first revisits some well-known circuit techniques that use CMOS devices biased in subthreshold in order to establish nanopower integrated circuit designs. Based on the these findings, this book shows the development of a class-AB current-mode sample-and-hold circuit with an order of magnitude improvement in its figure of merit compared to other state-of-the-art designs. Also, the concepts and design procedures of 1) single-branch filters 2) follower-integrator-based lowpass filters and 3) modular transconductance reduction techniques for very low frequency filters are presented. Finally, to serve the requirement of a very large signal swing in an energy-based action potential detector, a nanopower class-AB current-mode analog multiplier is designed to handle input current amplitudes of more than 10 times the bias current of the multiplier circuit. The invented filter circuits have been fabricated in a standard 0.18 CMOS process in order to verify our circuit concepts and design procedures. Their experimental results are reported.
