Meet fascinating women in STE@M, follow their "plays" and create
your Dream Career. This book is real-life story-telling at its
best. Sharing their career-changing challenges, discoveries,
actions and results, the young women of STE@M prove that using
knowledge of software or technology, engineering, art or math is
required in almost all fields the new workplace demands. Set aside
endless graphs and tedious analytics. Instead, reflect upon the
inspirational words and imagery painted by powerful young women
whose experiences foretell success at a time of great workplace
change. Our story-tellers, successful pioneers in the new world of
work, have written this beautifully illustrated book to - and for -
you in your high school years. Their powerful words will inspire
the courageous, offer staying power to the ambitious and daring to
those who have been held-back by misplaced fear the STE@M word
sometime evokes. For example, you'll meet a young woman from a poor
family whose parents did not encourage thoughts of college and
whose greatest ambition throughout much of her high school years
was to paint pictures on a pier in San Francisco. A teacher
inspired her, mentored her and encouraged her to explore the
connections between science, art and life. She began to see other
options for her life. Unfortunately, life changing challenges in
her family interfered with her new-found ambitions. So, how did
this young woman overcome life's trials and find a new direction
filled with adventure, travel and exciting work? How did she become
one of our real-life models for today's teens? How might she
inspire you? Well...for those answers, you will have to read the
rest of her story. It's in the book While the book is intended to
inspire teens who are looking at preparing for a future unlike the
past; it is an equally important reading experience for teachers,
parents and friends who are travelers sharing the road to the
future.
Values are of critical importance in the practice of career
counseling as evidenced by the pervasive use of values surveys and
values card sorts by career counselors, vocational and counseling
psychologists, career development facilitators, career coaches, and
other career development practitioners. The purpose of this book is
to provide practitioners, faculty, and researchers in vocational
psychology and career counseling with a foundational tool to guide
their work. This book focuses on the critical role that values play
in a person's career, addressing values from a broad array of
perspectives, including cultural and international perspectives, to
illuminate the place of values within vocational psychology and
career development. The book will be directed primarily toward
psychology and counselor education faculty who teach advanced
undergraduate and graduate courses in vocational psychology, career
development, career assessment, and career counseling. Although
there is a range of readership (undergraduate and graduate students
as well as professionals already in the field), the authors
understand the differences in reading level and agree to write for
all levels.

contemporary topics, including such areas as: military careers,
life after the military, athletics, individuals with disabilities
or special needs, career counseling in our current socio-economic
environment, and current technologies such as virtual counseling.
In addition, we have added case studies and key terms as study
guides at the end of each chapter. We are fortunate to include many

challenges and opportunities. Throughout your life you will make
countless decisions and experience numerous transitions. Each
decision may be subject to a range of influences, for example
people we know may give us an opinion, we may be attracted to a
particular place or a particular salary, or we may simply want a
change. No two people will have the same pattern of influences. The
My System of Career Influences MSCI (Adult) is a qualitative career
assessment reflection process based on recent developments in
theory and practice. It uses a constructivist view and encourages a
narrative and story-based approach to your career development. It
has been used successfully with employees by career development
practitioners working in a range of businesses and organisations
from large to small and in one-on-one career counselling sessions
as well as in a group setting.
Career development in the 21st century presents many challenges and
opportunities to adults. They must now navigate a complex and
rapidly changing world of work influenced by technology,
globalisation and fluctuating economic conditions. The My System of
Career Influences MSCI (Adult) is a qualitative career assessment
tool based on the constructivist theory from cognitive psychology.

individual in the assessment and counselling process. Individuals
actively participate in the construction of their own reality and
are encouraged to respond to and deal with both anticipated and
unanticipated events that influence their careers. The tool
comprises a facilitator guide and participant workbooks. The guide
describes the Systems Theory Framework of career development that
provides the theoretical background to the MSCI as well as a
step-by-step user guide to conducting the MSCI (Adult) process with
individuals and groups. Each participant uses the accompanying MSCI
(Adult) Workbook (sold separately) which they can complete and keep
for later reference. With its attention to an holistic and storied
approach to career intervention My System of Career Influences MSCI

working with adults in today's workplaces.
This valuable career resource introduces teens to the skills and

An eye-opening look at what really goes on behind the scenes at our
colleges and universities. .Why tuition costs have risen
astronomically .How admissions are not always fair and objective .
How colleges and universities are shielded from accountability .
Why a college degree is failing to prepare manay graduates for jobs
.What alternatives are available . Resources accessible to minimize
college costs "After reading this book, I was absolutely floored by
the honesty with which the author presents sensitive and frankly
appalling information about the system of higher education. DO NOT
enter a university or pay a cent for your child's education until
you read this book--it will change your mind and your thinking
about everything related to a college degree, particularly the
exorbitant cost." C.M., Arizona
