The Well-Tempered Clavier is published as part of ABRSM's
'Signature' Series - a series of authoritative performing editions
of standard keyboard works, prepared from original sources by
leading scholars. Includes informative introductions and
performance notes.
Daniel Gottlob Turk (1750-1813), who held the post of director of
music at Halle University, was responsible for the most influential
keyboard tutor of its day, the monumental Klavierschule. He also
wrote these two books of practical pieces to accompany it.
Progressing from the simplest two-part pieces to more complex works
practising various aspects of technique, the albums provide
excellent teaching material for the early grades.

In this wide-ranging set of original essays, musicologist and
organist Russell Stinson investigates Johann Sebastian Bach's
compositions for the organ, opening up a wealth of perspectives on
the stylistic orientation and historical context of these timeless
masterpieces. With a sweeping hand, Stinson sheds light on the
entire corpus of Bach's organ chorales, and considers the reception
of particular pieces not only by various luminaries in the
classical music world, but also those within such disparate
contexts as film, literature, politics, and rock music. Stinson's
investigations include a revealing focus on a previously
unpublished fugue by Bach pupil J. G. Schubler, unexplored
techniques found in over twenty of Bach's chorale preludes, and the
diverse ways in which Bach's organ works have been received from
the composer's own lifetime to the present day. Individual essays
are also devoted to Felix Mendelssohn as a performer; to Robert
Schumann as an editor and critic; to Cesar Franck as a performer,
pedagogue, and composer; and to Edward Elgar as a performer,
critic, and transcriber. Rich in archival data and filled with
fascinating anecdotes, J. S. Bach at His Royal Instrument is
entirely up-to-date, meticulously annotated and indexed, and
eminently readable. This book is essential reading for anyone at
all interested in Bach and "the king of instruments."
The Best of Grade 3 Piano comprise pieces selected by the major
examination boards in one volume, which have captured the
imaginations of teachers and students over the years, including
some old favourites and some forgotten gems. All the pieces are

This book also provides top-quality music that is ideal as a
sight-reading resource for more advanced students. The music has
been carefully selected and edited by Anthony Williams, a leading
ABRSM piano examiner and selector. There are five books in the
series Best of Grade... for Piano, and a similar series exists for
Flute (selected and edited by Sally Adams), and Clarinet (selected

French Language Edition. This easy step-by-step method emphasizes
correct playing habits and note reading through interval
recognition. Lesson Book Level 1A begins by teaching basic keyboard
topography and fluent recognition of white key names in relation to
black keys. It focuses on simple rhythms and prepares students for
intervallic reading with entertaining songs that focus on "same,"
"stepping up" and "stepping down." It then introduces lines and
space notes in treble and bass clefs, melodic and harmonic
intervals of 2nds, 3rds, 4ths and 5ths, and graduates to reading on
the grand staff. It also introduces the flat and sharp signs. This
course is most effective when used under the direction of a piano
teacher or experienced musician.

attention to teaching and learning. Teaching music encompasses
everything from putting a drum in a child's hands to helping an
accomplished musician unlock the meaning and spirit of the
classics. At every stage, some fundamental issues keep surfacing.
In this wide-ranging book, Susan Tomes reflects on how her own
experience as a learner, in different genres from classical to
jazz, hasinfluenced her approach to teaching. She tells us how her
performing career has given her insight into what young performers
need to know, and how discussions with students have fed into her
own practice. She describes the brilliant and intriguing teachers
whose masterclasses opened her ears to the many ways in which music
can be brought alive and communicated. This is a book to appeal to
