In 2007, Ivan Orkin, a middle-aged Jewish guy from Long Island, did
something crazy. In the food-zealous, insular megalopolis of Tokyo,
Ivan opened a ramen shop. He was a gaijin (foreigner), trying to
make his name in a place that is fiercely opinionated about ramen.
At first, customers came because they were curious, but word spread
quickly about Ivan's handmade noodles, clean and complex broth, and
thoughtfully prepared toppings. Soon enough, Ivan became a
celebrity - a fixture of Japanese TV programmes and the face of his
own best-selling brand of instant ramen. Ivan opened a second
location in Tokyo and has returned to New York City to open two US
branches. Ivan Ramen is essentially two books in one: a memoir and
a cookbook. In these pages, Ivan tells the story of his ascent from
wayward youth to a star of the Tokyo restaurant scene. He also
shares more than forty recipes, including the complete, detailed
recipe for his signature Shio Ramen; creative ways to use extra
ramen components; and some of his most popular ramen variations.
Written with equal parts candour, humour, gratitude and
irreverence, Ivan Ramen is the only English-language book that
offers a look inside the cultish world of ramen making in Japan. It
will inspire you to forge your own path, give you insight into
Japanese culture, and leave you with a deep appreciation for what
goes into a seemingly simple bowl of noodles.

A follow-up to the successful 'The ScandiKitchen' (published
September 2015), this new book from Bronte Aurell features over 60
recipes for cakes, bakes and treats from all over Scandinavia. From
indulgent cream confections to homely and comforting fruit cakes
and traditional breads, sweet buns and pastries. FIKA is a Swedish
word meaning to meet up for a cup of coffee or tea over something
delicious. It is also the word for the delicious treats themselves.
Swedes traditionally stop twice a day for fika: taking a
much-needed break from the daily grind. People fika with family,
colleagues, friends, children and even go on fika dates. HYGGE
(pronounced hue-guh) is a word that originated in Norway but is now
mainly used in Denmark. It means 'a sublime state of cosiness you
feel when you are with loved ones and nothing else matters'. Hygge
can be enhanced by the addition of a log fire, a good film, a cup
of something warm and a sweet treat...hence the ideal combination
of the two terms. Chapters are divided into Biscuits and Cookies,
Tray and No bakes, Everyday Fika, Little Fancy Cakes, Celebration
Cakes and Bread and Batters. This beautifully illustrated,
authentic guide is a celebration of Scandinavian baking in all its
glory. It is evocative of cosy days shared with friends, slowing
down and taking the time to enjoy simple, homemade, wholesome
pleasures - encouraging a lifestyle to aspire to. With features on
special Scandi winter celebrations, their baking traditions and how
to bring fika and hygge into your life.

The New Mediterranean Diet Cookbook is your guidebook to the
ultimate superdiet, an evidence-based keto diet that emphasizes a
diversity of fish, healthy fats, and a rainbow of colorful
vegetables-with 100 delicious recipes for everything from snacks to
dinner. The Mediterranean diet has long been touted as one of the
world's healthiest diets, renowned for its protective effects
against heart disease, cancer, and other chronic illnesses.
However, its heavy inclusion of grains and carbohydrates can
contribute to obesity and is a drawback for many. Also shown to
have many health benefits, the ketogenic diet stimulates the
fat-burning and longevity-promoting state of ketosis by limiting
carbs and emphasizing high-fat foods. While the keto diet is about
the proportion of macronutrients (fats, protein, carbohydrates) in
the food you eat, the Mediterranean diet is about specific food
types: seafood, olive oil, colorful vegetables, and other
anti-inflammatory foods. This book is about living and eating at
the intersection of these complementary diets so you can reap the
benefits of both. While both diets advocate significant amounts of
healthy fats and protein, the new Mediterranean approach to keto
significantly shifts the fat profile of the diet to emphasize the
monounsaturated and omega-3 fats that health experts agree promote
living a long disease-free life. It also includes colorful
vegetables, providing a diversity of nutrients and flavor. The
result is an enhanced Mediterranean diet that stokes metabolism,
supports the gut and microbiome, and is anti-inflammatory,
anti-aging, and nutrient-dense. Improve your overall health while
enjoying delectable dishes including: Superfood Shakshuka Blender
Cinnamon Pancakes with Cacao Cream Topping Green Goddess Salad
Pancetta Wrapped Sea Bass Sheet Pan Crispy Salmon Piccata Fierce
Meatball Zoodle Bolognese Nordic Stone Age Bread Chocolate Hazelnut
"Powerhouse" Truffles With The New Mediterranean Diet Cookbook,
you'll learn how to balance your macronutrients, what foods are
considered the new Mediterranean superfoods, and how to make tasty
dishes to keep you satisfied all day.

"With Lisboeta, I feel guided through the cuisine of Portugal's capital city. This book not only shares the warmth of Nuno's cooking but also tells the stories behind eating in Lisbon, one of Europe's great food cultures." René Redzepi
Lisbon is known as Portugal's 'City of Light', its beautiful, tiled buildings and cobbled streets illuminated by the reflections of the nearby waters. It is also one of the great undiscovered culinary centres of Europe. Internationally renowned chef Nuno Mendes is a 'Lisboeta' (native of Lisbon) and in this groundbreaking cookbook, he invites you to experience his favourite places, and the incredible food you will discover there.
Sharing recipes inspired by the dishes that he loves, Nuno takes you through a typical day in Lisbon. Here you will discover the secrets to the most delicious pastéis de nata, the custard tarts for which Lisbon is so famous, and bolas de Berlim, fluffy doughnuts stuffed with custard that are sold on the beach. For lunch you might sample some typical seafood, like squid sizzling in a pan with garlic and coriander, or grilled sardines with a roasted green pepper salad. And as night draws in, Nuno offers his recipes for rich and warming dishes like slow-baked lamb chanfana and roasted orange-rub pork belly with fennel - which may even be followed with a cheeky prego sandwich after dinner.
These are the heart-warming, vibrant dishes of a city with a modern, bustling food scene that is nevertheless steeped in centuries-old traditions. Nuno's portraits of Lisbon's idiosyncrasies are threaded through the pages: impromptu sardine grills, endless snacking and city-wide street carnivals. With luminous photography shot on location, this book will bring to life Portugal's magnificent capital city and its fabulous cuisine.
'Istria is testament to the idea that recipes are so much more than
instructions, that they are accumulated layers of stories and
histories, both personal and collective, brought to life every time
a dish is made. An exquisite book.' - Rachel Roddy Istria is the
heart-shaped promontory at the northern crux of the Adriatic Sea,
where rows of vines and olives grow in fields of red earth. Here,
the cuisine records a history of changing borders - a blend of the
countries (Italy, the Republic of Venice, Austria, Hungary and now
Slovenia and Croatia) that have shared Istria's hills and coasts
and valleys. This book is a record of traditions, of these cultures
and of Paola's family: recipes from her childhood, the region's
past, and family and friends who still live beside the Adriatic
coast. Among recipes for semolina dumplings, beef and pork goulash
and apricot strudel are memories of the region and stories of the
recipes' authors: the Italian-Istrians who remained in the region
after the 1940s, and those who left for new countries.
A San Francisco Chronicle Bestseller! "The arid land that starts in
Arizona and stretches into Mexico's west coast is Ronstadt's
foothold in the world. It's a story she has told through music, and
now wants to tell through food."-The New York Times "The book is
many things at once. It's a portrait of a place, the Sonoran
Desert, and it's a genealogy of sorts, an archival romp through
Ronstadt's family history."-Vogue "An album of loves for the high
desert of Sonora and Ronstadt's hometown of Tucson."-NPR Rock and
Roll Hall of Famer Linda Ronstadt takes readers on a journey to the
place her soul calls home, the Sonoran Desert, in this candid new
memoir. In Feels Like Home, Grammy award-winning singer Linda
Ronstadt effortlessly evokes the magical panorama of the high
desert, a landscape etched by sunlight and carved by wind, offering
a personal tour built around meals and memories of the place where
she came of age. Growing up the granddaughter of Mexican immigrants
and a descendant of Spanish settlers near northern Sonora,
Ronstadt's intimate new memoir celebrates the marvelous flavors and
indomitable people on both sides of what was once a porous border
whose denizens were happy to exchange recipes and gather around
campfires to sing the ballads that shaped Ronstadt's musical
heritage. Following her bestselling musical memoir, Simple Dreams,
this book seamlessly braids together Ronstadt's recollections of
people and their passions in a region little understood in the rest
of the United States. This road trip through the desert, written in
collaboration with former New York Times writer Lawrence Downes and
illustrated throughout with beautiful photographs by Bill Steen,
features recipes for traditional Sonoran dishes and a bevy of
revelations for Ronstadt's admirers. If this book were a radio
signal, you might first pick it up on an Arizona highway, well
south of Phoenix, coming into the glow of Ronstadt's hometown of
Tucson. It would be playing something old and Mexican, from a time
when the border was a place not of peril but of possibility.
