Arts & Crafts > Fine Art Supplies > Oil Painting
A fast evaporating, highly refined essential oil with the strongest thinning and brush cleaning power of all Artists’ grade solvents. Suitable for removing varnish (including Dammar Varnish). Keep tightly closed and away from light to prevent oxidation. Do not use if it has thickened.
The key foundation of Bob Ross' wet-on-wet technique, as seen in
award-winning 'The Joy of Painting', Liquid Clear provides a unique
base coat to your painting surface and is smooth and slow drying.
It allows for the blending and mixing of oil paints directly on the
canvas. Importantly, Liquid Black does not dilute the intensity of
colours and should be applied sparingly. The Bob Ross Wet-on-Wet
Technique is a technique that enables an oil painter to work
quickly wet-on-wet, much like a watercolour painter would do. You
apply the Liquid Black medium first to 'wet' the canvas, then
follow the demonstration of techniques by Bob Ross to create a
representational painting in a short amount of time. Standard
sizing and priming is advised before using this product.

PR 101. Very Fast Drying. Semi-Opaque. Excellent Lightfastness. Average Oil content.
Formerly a natural Iron Oxide, this is now manufactured to greater standards of purity. A heavy red, which yields fruity fleshy hues, and makes tones of great sonority when mixed with the Yellow Lakes.
PY 43. Fast drying, semi-transparent.French Yellow Ochre is a glowing natural yellow. Ochre, an iron oxide earth pigment, can be traced back to paintings from the Middle Stone Age. Landscapes painters and portrait painters alike will find uses for this soft, natural yellow pigment.
PG17. Average Drying. Opaque. Excellent Lightfastness. Low Oil Content.
Another mid-19th century metallic oxide, with covering power but not much tinting strength. It is a heavy, vegetable green which can be surprisingly enlivened by adding yellows. Landscapists find that its range in mixes and hues makes it a staple green. It acts very well as a complementary to active red hues.

extenders, or driers, resulting in pure, rich, and vibrant colours
that are lightfast and buttery.First manufactured in 1982, Michael
Harding Artists' Oil Colours are exceptional quality and are made

There is no water within the formulation of Artisan. The linseed oil and safflower oil vehicles have been modified to allow the colour to accept water, creating a stable emulsion, while retaining the working characteristics of conventional oil colour.Artisan is ideal for:-
Oil painters who are sensitive to, or simply want to avoid exposure to solvents such as white spirit (mineral spirits) or turpentine.
Students and teachers in schools and colleges where the use of oil colour is prohibited because of the solvents.
Artists working in shared studio space where the build up of solvent levels could lead to a harmful concentration of vapours and a generally an unpleasant odour.
Artists who work within a small home environment and wish to reduce the odour of oil painting.
For travel, all Artisan products (Colour & Mediums) can be transported on aeroplanes (subject to the agreement of the airline).
The range has also been formulated with a high proportion of single pigments for brilliance of colour and clean colour mixing. The most suitable oil and methods for dispersion have been selected to bring out the individual characteristics, from opacity to natural transparency, of each pigment in the Artisan range.

A high level of pigmentation provides good covering power and tinting strength. While it can't match the superior pigment load of Artists' Oil Colour, the Winton range is much stronger than many other artists' quality ranges. The economical cost has been achieved through the use of moderately priced pigments rather than lessening the pigment content to an unacceptable level. Winsor & Newton formulation, manufacture and quality control ensure a product of absolute excellence. The Winton range has a more uniform consistency than Artists' Oil Colour and is slightly stiffer. It offers excellent retention of brush and palette knife strokes.
Alkali refined linseed oil is a pale oil extracted from the seeds
of the flax plant. It is used in many of Michael Harding's paints
because it produces the strongest paint film during the drying
process and ensures the longevity of each painting. When mixed with
oil paint, linseed oil will increase the gloss and transparency of
the paint, and will thin the paint so that it flows more easily and
does not hold brushmarks. It will also slow the drying time of the
paint. Linseed oil is also highly suitable for use with dry ground
pigments. Please note soft materials which have absorbed linseed oil
should be stored in sealed containers, as the oil will oxidise when
exposed to the air. This chemical reaction releases so much heat
that the rags may spontaneously combust. Make sure the lid of the
container is closed securely and store in a cool place. Brushes and
tools used with linseed oil should be cleaned with white spirit.
Cobra Water Mixable Oil Colours provide a perfect oil paint result with a uniform drying time and degree of gloss. Painting with Cobra paints is much like painting with traditional oils. The paint can be applied using all the usual oil paint techniques. The colour, as well as the brush stroke or applied texture, retains its full expression after the paint has dried; the paint remains as it was when applied.

R&F Pigment Sticks are handmade in small batches, carefully milled and molded. Only the basic traditional materials are used: natural wax, linseed oil, and pigment, and only used with absolute purity. Pigment Sticks are the only brand of oil sticks that employ only natural waxes (beeswax & plant wax). This allows for a minimum amount of wax. This results in softer consistency and greater paint film strength.
R&F Pigment Sticks let you get rid of the distancing factor of a brush and hold the paint right in your hand. The surface, the paint, your hand and your ideas all come together. The different effects you can get with these luscious sticks will amaze you.
Whatever oil colour technique you choose, this pasty paint gives a beautiful result. Choose from a wide and balanced palette. In addition to the lively colours, you above all opt for the certainty of a good oil paint. The fineness, the colour intensity, the high content of pigment and durability contribute to the ultimate expression of your inspiration. Van Gogh oil colours are available in a wide range of 66 colours in two tube sizes.
The oil stick from Sennelier is a composition of artist quality oil paint; a proportion of the oil is substituted with a neutral mineral, resulting in the stick appearance. The 55 artist colours are of top quality: pure pigments are ground into vegetable oils, selected for their low degree of yellowing with time. The choice and high concentration of pigments enables excellent light resistance to be achieved.

Each colour is ground to enhance the beauty and luminosity specific to that particular pigment. Some colours will feel slightly gritty; others extremely smooth. Pigments are ground in pure, premium, alkali-refined and PH- balanced linseed oil and made in batches no larger than five gallons at a time. This provides total control over the product, much like the late nineteenth-century French colour makers. All the materials are hand measured, and every ounce of paint is scrutinized. The paint is packed in 37 ml and 150 ml non-reactive aluminum tubes. Larger quantities of paint are packed in aluminium cans using only the purest materials.

Traditionally crafted and triple-milled in England, Georgian Oil
Colours provide colour consistency from wet to dry and an even
performance and finish across all colours.
With a smooth and buttery consistency, Georgian Oil Colours are ideal
for experimenting with different brush and knife techniques. They are
intermixable and have high pigment loads, including traditional
pigments such as cadmium and cobalt. Georgian Oil Colours generally
require very limited quantities of medium, so they can be used straight
from the tube. All colours are lightfast and rated as Excellent (****)
or Good (***). The surface is typically dry in 4 to 5 days.
