Originating from the Williamsburg neighbourhood of Brooklyn, each oil colour is milled in small batches to bring out the best qualities of the pigment used. Williamsburg's oil paints have gathered an international presence while preserving the handmade integrity of the paint. Tubes are available 37 ml and 150 ml sizes. This is a 150ml tube of Williamsburg Oil Paint in Unbleached Titanium Pale.

French Light Sienna, PY43, natural hydrated iron oxide, is a satiny greenish sienna. In comparing French Light Sienna to the Williamsburg palette of earth colours it shows itself as very unique. It fits nicely in between the earthy greens and the warmer earth colours that have a greenish tint although it is a far departure from the colours most similar to it. It appears to occupy a space somewhere between Bohemian Green Earth and Brown Ochre. Its burnt olive colour is straight out of the garment racks of a second hand army navy surplus store and it's tint is the colour of cool sand untouched by the light of the sun.

This pigment had lighter and redder characteristics than those it assumed when manufacture in bladders, and then tubes, began a century later. Raw Umber is calcined to make this pigment, and the extent of Manganese Dioxide mixed with the Iron Oxide determines the range of undertones; here much warmer than is usual.
