It also pays homage to the patterns they used on their well loved House of Cards. The Eameses brought a sense of humor and joy to everything they created, and the design and layout of the book aims to convey that spirit in a visual feast for the eyes. It is a testament to the Eameses and the lasting value of good design that their Eames lounge chair, created in 1956, endures today as perhaps the most recognizable and coveted piece of mid century furniture design. Their experiments in technological innovations, like molded plywood and fiberglass, resulted in such classic pieces as the bent plywood LCW and DCM Chairs, the Molded Plastic Chairs, and the Aluminum Group; all of which are still in production by Herman Miller. Likewise, Charles and Ray designed and built their own home in 1949 in Pacific Palisades, and it is still revered as a landmark of modern architecture. Built as part of the Case Study program in California, sponsored by Arts & Architecture magazine, it was one of the earliest experiments in pre fab construction, using off the shelf industrial parts. But unlike the austerity of much of modern architectural design, their factory like shell was lovingly lived in along with their personal collections of folk art, treasures from their travels, and everyday objects refreshingly displayed with affection and without pretense. In exhibition design as well, ""Mathematica: A World of Numbers ... and Beyond, 1961,"" for IBM is considered groundbreaking as an interactive, educational, and experiential way to communicate the wonder and magic of math. Similarly, their seminal film, Powers of Ten, 1977, expresses the mathematical concept of multiplying to the tenth power, in a very direct, simple, and powerful way. Unlike any other book previously published on Charles and Ray Eames, this unique monograph is a visual celebration of their work and life, and was created in true collaboration with Charles s grandson, Eames Demetrios, and other members of the Eames family."
The book provides an in-depth knowledge on how a product is
designed and developed by Product Designers. This has been achieved
through a case study of one product the Post Box. This product was
chosen for the study primarily due to its simple and non-technical
nature as that would make it easy for the readers to comprehend the
design process. At the same time the Post Box posed all the
challenges a designer would face while creating a new product.
The packaging closure is the primary interface between the product and the customer. Closures have undergone much evolution and development in recent years. The basic function of a closure is to allow easy access to a packaged product and to reclose the package, when the contents are not used fully in a single serve. However, closures are now expected to deliver a wide variety of additional functions, such as ensuring that the package has not been opened prior to the first opening by the consumer, facilitating the dispensing of the product (especially for food and pharmaceuticals) and supporting the brand equity value of the product. This volume considers the technologies relevant to packaging closures and sealing systems, structured by types of pack. It is directed at packaging technologists, those involved in the design and development of packaging and those who specify or purchase packaging.
This is a unified collection of important recent results for the design of robust controllers for uncertain systems, primarily based on H8 control theory or its stochastic counterpart, risk sensitive control theory. Two practical applications are used to illustrate the methods throughout.
For a long time, quality has been one of industry's main preoccupations. It remains so today. There is some foundation for the statement that there is a 'quality crisis' in Europe, the methods traditionally used in our industries being unable to meet today's demands. Consequently it is essential to look for new directions in which to progress, taking account of the methods for achieving quality that have been developed in recent years. A smartly designed and beautifully illustrated look at the life and work of an elusive and influential designer and architect Eileen Gray (1878-1976) was a versatile designer and architect who navigated numerous literary and artistic circles over the course of her life. This handsome volume chronicles Gray's career as a designer, architect, painter, and photographer. The book's essays, featuring copious new research, offer in-depth analysis of more than 50 individual designs and architectural projects, accompanied by both period and new photographs. Born in Ireland and educated in London, Gray proceeded to Paris where she opened a textile studio, studied the Japanese craft of lacquer that would become a primary technique in her design work, and owned and directed the influential gallery and store known as "Jean Desert." Gray struggled for acceptance as a largely self-taught woman in male-dominated professions. Although she is now best known for her furniture, lighting, and carpets, she dedicated herself to many architectural and interior projects that were both personal and socially driven, including the Villa E 1027, the iconic modern house designed with Jean Badovici, as well as economical and demountable projects, such as the Camping Tent. Good product designs merge materials, technology and hardware into a unified user experience; one where the technology recedes into the background and people benefit from the capabilities and experiences available. Multi-objective programming (MOP) can simultaneously optimize multi-objectives in mathematical programming models, but the optimization of multi-objectives triggers the issue of Pareto solutions and complicates the derived answers. To address these problems, researchers often incorporate the concepts of fuzzy sets and evolutionary algorithms into MOP models. For the many different deterministic non-linear dynamic systems (physical, mechanical, technical, chemical, ecological, economic, and civil and structural engineering), the discovery of irregular vibrations in addition to periodic and almost periodic vibrations is one of the most significant achievements of modern science. An in-depth study of the theory and application of non-linear science will certainly change one's perception of numerous non-linear phenomena and laws considerably, together with its great effects on many areas of application. As the important subject matter of non-linear science, bifurcation theory, singularity theory and chaos theory have developed rapidly in the past two or three decades. They are now advancing vigorously in their applications to mathematics, physics, mechanics and many technical areas worldwide, and they will be the main subjects of our concern. This book is concerned with applications of the methods of dynamic systems and subharmonic bifurcation theory in the study of non-linear dynamics in engineering.
