This book presents a fun and practical way of learning the
functions of acupuncture points on the twelve primary and eight
extra channels.. Students are invited to colour and doodle their
way through the sequence of images on each channel in turn
embellishing anything they find difficult to remember or recall.
Through the drawings the author offers her own imaginative visual
representation of each point based on translations of the Chinese
point names. The text page opposite each set of drawings provides a
quick cross reference for the student, with a simple list of the
point names and the main functions relating to each. The flexible
style of this book accommodates the needs of students from a wide
range of schools and traditions. This is an essential learning
resource for students of acupuncture, acupressure, shiatsu and
massage, and is ideal for revision and self or paired testing.
This text aims to provide the reader with information on the use of
flower essence remedies in the treatment of animals of all kinds.
Every year millions of family pets as well as farm animals, often
physically fit and healthy, are destroyed because of unruly
behaviour, incontinence, excessive noisiness, aggression,
possessiveness, destructiveness and other problems. This is
avoidable. A correction to the problem can be brought about by the
use of flower remedies.;This book describes emotions in animals and
their influence on behaviour. Each of the 38 Bach flower remedies
are described with their application in the treatment of a range of
domestic animals including horses. Diagnostic symptoms, animal by
animal, together with appropriate treatment regimes are illustrated
with case histories.
A full-color illustrated and comprehensive study guide for
reflexology * Provides detailed and accurate anatomical drawings,
zone and reflex maps, and muscle tables * Offers extensive basic
pathology of all body systems, including case studies * Ideal for
students of reflexology up to levels 2 and 3; exceeds the
curriculum requirements of all the major awarding bodies * Includes
a study outline for each chapter as well as review and multiple
choice questions Reflexology is a gentle, non-invasive therapy that
encourages the body to balance and heal itself. It involves
applying finger or thumb pressure to specific points on the hands
and feet. Called "reflexes," these points reflect, or mirror, the
organs and structures of the body as well as a person's emotional
health. In this way, the hands and feet are "mini maps" or
"microcosms" of the body that can be used to encourage holistic
healing. Presenting the most complete reflexology study guide
available, this full-color illustrated textbook is designed for use
both in the classroom and as a home study resource. Ideal for
students of reflexology up to levels 2 and 3, it exceeds the
curriculum requirements of all the major awarding bodies as well as
meeting the current National Occupational Standards for
reflexology. Providing detailed and accurate anatomical drawings,
zone and reflex maps, and muscle tables, the book outlines each
body system, explaining how, when, and why to work the reflexes. It
explores foot reflexology, hand reflexology, as well as meridian
therapy and offers extensive basic pathology of all body systems,
including case studies, allowing the student to develop
interpretive diagnostic and treatment planning skills. Each chapter
also includes a study outline as well as review and multiple choice
questions. Offering a comprehensive guide to the theory,
philosophies, and history of reflexology, this book will encourage
students to develop understanding and confidence in their
reflexology practice.
San Pedro, a visionary and hallucinogenic brew derived from the
mescaline-based Trichocereus pachanoi or 'cactus of vision', is one
of Peru's most important and powerful teacher plants. For thousands
of years this brew has been drunk by spiritual seekers and those
who need healing, and it has cured a wide variety of physical
problems, including cancer, diabetes, paralysis, and pneumonia, as
well as emotional and psychological issues such as alcoholism,
heartbreak, and grief. Those who work with it say San Pedro brings
us closer to God. Remarkably, however, while other South American
teacher plants such as ayahuasca have been well reported in the
literature, there has been no book specifically written about the
shamanic use of San Pedro - until now. "The Hummingbird's Journey
to God" provides wisdom for the whole of mankind.
This 25th volume of the Evidence-based Clinical Chinese Medicine
series provides a multi-faceted 'whole evidence' analysis of the
management of rhinosinusitis (sinusitis) using integrative Chinese
medicine.Beginning with an overview of how rhinosinusitis is
conceptualised and managed in conventional medicine (Chapter 1),
the authors summarise the management of rhinosinusitis in
contemporary Chinese medicine (Chapter 2) based on clinical
guidelines and contemporary books. The third chapter provides
detailed analyses of how rhinosinusitis was treated with herbal
medicine and acupuncture in past eras based on the classical
Chinese literature. The subsequent chapters comprehensively review
the current state of the clinical evidence for the integrative
application of Chinese herbal medicines (Chapter 5), acupuncture
therapies (Chapter 7), other Chinese medicine therapies (Chapter 8)
and combination Chinese medicine therapies (Chapter 9), as well as
analyse and evaluate the results of these studies from an
evidence-based medicine perspective. In Chapter 6, the authors
review and summarise experimental evidence for the bioactivity of
commonly used Chinese herbs and their constituent compounds. The
outcomes of these analyses are summarised and discussed in Chapter
10. Implications for clinical practice and future research are
identified. This book provides valuable information for clinicians
and students in integrative medicine and Chinese medicine regarding
contemporary practice and the current evidence base for Chinese
medicine therapies for managing rhinosinusitis, in order to assist
clinicians in making evidence-based decisions in patient care. It
also provides researchers with a comprehensive survey of the state
of the field that can inform future directions for clinical and
experimental studies.

A detailed exploration of the remedies and methods used by the
healers who journeyed along with the Crusading knights * Presents a
traditional "cure-all" or leechbook of the ailments the Crusaders
would have encountered and the remedies their mediciners would have
employed, including recipes for many cures and instructions *
Includes a comprehensive herbal, listing all the medicinal plants
and materials needed to make the remedies, potions, elixirs, and
unctions of the cure-all * Details the author's travels in the
steps of the Crusader physicians where he met with healers still
employing the mediciners' practices During the Crusades, chivalric
knightly orders, such as the Knights Templar and the Knights
Hospitaller, brought along monastic mediciners to treat the sick
and wounded. These mediciners not only employed the leading cures
of medieval Europe but also learned new methods from the local
folk-healers and Arabic healing traditions they encountered on
their journeys. Presenting a traditional "cure-all" or leechbook of
the Crusader physicians, Jon Hughes shares a comprehensive
encyclopedia of the ailments the Crusaders would have encountered
and the remedies their mediciners would have employed. He details
recipes for many cures and a range of magico-medical applications
such as charms, spells, enchantments, and amulets used to address
the new illnesses of strange and foreign lands. He includes a
detailed and comprehensive herbal, listing all the plants and
materials needed to make and administer the remedies of the
cure-all. He also details his travels in the steps of the Crusader
physicians throughout Poland, the Czech Republic, Malta, Morocco,
and the island of Rhodes where he met with healers still following
this healing path who shared their practices with him. Revealing
how the healers of the Crusades helped elevate Western medical
knowledge through the integration of wisdom from their Middle
Eastern counterparts, Hughes shows how their legacy continues
through the many effective remedies and healing modalities still in
use today.

The Ling Shu, also known as the Ling Shu Jing, is part of a unique
and seminal trilogy of ancient Chinese medicine, together with the
Su Wen and Nan Jing. It constitutes the foundation of a
two-thousand-year healing tradition that remains active to this
day. Its therapeutic approach is based on a purely secular science
of nature, with natural laws serving as guidelines for human
behavior and medical treatment. No other text offers such broad
insights into the thinking and manifest action of the authors of
the time. Following an introduction, this volume contains the full
original Chinese text of the Ling Shu, an English translation of
all eighty-one chapters, and notes on difficult-to-grasp passages
and possible changes in the text over time on the basis of Chinese
primary and secondary literature of the past two thousand years and
translator Paul Unschuld's own work. The Ling Shu reveals itself as
a completely rational work, and, in many of its statements, a
surprisingly modern one. It will provide the foundation for
comparisons with the nearly contemporaneous Corpus Hippocraticum of
ancient Europe and today's iterations of traditional Chinese
Medicine as well.
Acupuncture is widely practised in the 21st century in
scientifically developed countries for a wide range of ailments
ranging from chronic pain, giddiness and high blood pressure to
gastrointestinal disorders and sexual dysfunction. Yet the reasons
for its vaunted efficacy remain a matter of controversy. In
traditional Chinese medical theory, the mechanism of action in
acupuncture was understood in terms of the flow of qi and the
balance of yin and yang through the body's meridians, a complex
network painstaking charted but never found. Modern medical
researchers have examined old and new needling points, and some
view them as "trigger points" that stimulate physiological
responses in the body. There is also clear evidence of strong
placebo effects, although it has not been conclusively established
that that this is either the main or the only significant effect.
This volume contains twelve articles covering the latest scientific
explanations of the mechanism of acupuncture and critical reviews
of clinical trials on its efficacy by leading scholars, including
Edzard Ernst at Exeter, Lixing Lao at the University of Maryland,
PC Leung at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and Thomas
Lundeberg at Karolinska Institute. Hong Hai is Senior Fellow at the
Institute of Advanced Studies and Adjunct Professor, Nanyang
Technological University, Singapore and Director of the Renhai
Clinic.
In Farmacology, practicing family physician and renowned nutrition
explorer Daphne Miller brings us beyond the simple concept of food
as medicine and introduces us to the critical idea that it's the
farm where that food is grown that offers us the real medicine.By
venturing out of her clinic and spending time on seven family
farms, Miller uncovers all the aspects of farming--from seed choice
to soil management--that have a direct and powerful impact on our
health. Bridging the traditional divide between agriculture and
medicine, Miller shares lessons learned from inspiring farmers and
biomedical researchers and artfully weaves their insights and
discoveries, along with stories from her patients, into the
narrative. The result is a compelling new vision for sustainable
healing and a treasure trove of farm-to-body lessons that have
immense value in our daily lives. In Farmacology you will meet: a
vegetable farmer in Washington State who shows us how the
principles he uses to rejuvenate his soil apply just as well to our
own bodies. Here we also discover the direct links between healthy
soil and healthy humans. a beef farmer in Missouri who shows how a
holistic cattle-grazing method can grow resilient calves and
resilient children. an egg farmer in Arkansas who introduces us to
the counterintuitive idea that stress can keep us productive and
healthy. We discover why the stressors associated with a
pasture-based farming system are beneficial to animals and humans
while the duress of factory farming can make us ill. a vintner in
Sonoma, California, who reveals the principles of Integrated Pest
Management and helps us understand how this gentler approach to
controlling unwanted bugs and weeds might be used to treat invasive
cancers in humans. a farmer in the Bronx who shows us how a network
of gardens offers health benefits that extend far beyond the
nutrient value of the fruits and vegetables grown in the raised
beds. For example, did you know that urban farming can lower the
incidence of alcoholism and crime? finally, an aromatic herb farmer
in Washington State who teaches us about the secret chemical
messages we exchange with plants--messages that can affect our mood
and even keep us looking youthful. In each chapter, Farmacology
reveals the surprising ways that the ecology of our body and the
ecology of our farms are intimately linked. This is a
paradigm-changing adventure that has huge implications for our
personal health and the health of the planet.
This highly illustrated guide teaches yoga therapists and mental
health professionals how to integrate Yin Yoga into practice and
treatment plans as part of a holistic approach to healing and
treating a variety of mental health challenges and brain injuries.
Yin yoga is an accessible form of yoga consisting of mainly floor
based low force stretching, perfect for all patients regardless of
physical limitations. The use of Yin yoga when combined with breath
work and meditation can decrease anxiety, improve overall mood, and
create a sense of well-being. With explanations on the principles
of practice, such as asanas, meditation, breathwork and how to
integrate different psychological methods to decrease emotional
suffering and increase self-care along with examples of how to
apply these principles for a range of mental health conditions;
this guide is essential reading for all practitioners interested in
an integrated approach to healing.
During the pandemic, surgeries closed their doors to their
patients, and told them to self-isolate and take paracetamol.
People became frightened and felt abandoned to cope with a virus
against which there seemed no answer from mainstream medicine.
Since then, there has been a groundswell of interest in plant
medicine, and this book will help readers feel empowered and able
to help themselves heal and thrive using tinctures, teas and other
recipes, but without having to train as a medical herbalist.
Amongst the alluring recipes are Menopause Tea, Horse Chestnut Gel
and Brain Spice Condiments, and chapters include Nourishing Your
Adrenals, Herbs for the Heart and Muscles and Joints. There's a
huge amount of wisdom here garnered from Jo's 22 years of
practising herbalism. There is nothing as magical as picking a weed
from under a hedge, brewing it in the cauldron of your teapot, and
using that potion to restore health. It's everyday alchemy, and it
transforms us from the base metal of material gratification into
the gold of recognizing the exquisite power of nature. Secrets from
a Herbalist's Garden meets the pull to recover from illness or to
alleviate a long-standing condition, as well as the yearning for a
new way of life, where growing and harvesting herbs with the
seasons is adopted as a new holistic lifestyle. You might consult
the text with a specific ailment or a plant to harvest, but it
would also guide you to a more spiritual and seasonal lifestyle.
For professionals, home practitioners, students and teachers of
homoeopathy, here is the eagerly awaited new volume in Colin
Griffith’s authoritative and unrivalled The New Materia Medica
series. Drawing on ten years of testing by Colin’s group, here
are 36 brand-new homoeopathic remedies offering fundamental
solutions for the needs of our challenging times. The remedies
include Australian Sandstone for patients who need to rediscover
their personal mission in life, Beta Vulgaris for purification of
body and spirit, Bursera Graveolens to counter psychic
vulnerability, Iron Pryrite for creative spark, Picea Pungens to
support patients in understanding the truth and as a remedy from
toxic pollution. A common thread is that these remedies will suit
those who feel existentially threatened by the speed, mindlessness
and sense of fear that seem to characterize life today. The book
also reveals how astrology can be used to assess the hidden depths
of difficult cases, crucial information for the homoeopath that is
not available anywhere else.
Pulse diagnosis is a notoriously complicated area in Chinese
medicine with very few practical or accessible resources available
to practitioners to improve their skillset. This clear, didactic
manual provides detailed yet user-friendly instructions for a pulse
diagnosis method the author has developed called Mai Jing A-B-C,
allowing for clinical competency and confidence in pulse diagnosis.
Jamie Hamilton draws on pulse methods and techniques found
primarily in the 3rd century classic of Chinese medicine, Mai Jing,
that have often been overlooked in later centuries. He uses his
teaching background to reassess these methods and breaks down
incredibly complex concepts into simpler forms to enable learning
and immediate application into practice. The method has been honed
into six simple steps, each accompanied by detailed case studies to
further aid clarity.
