and the newest top writers-the must reads There are more than 1,000
works with fun-to-read information, selected excerpts, and links to

them. TAKE THE LUCK OUT OF FINDING THAT "GREAT READ" Be it fiction
or nonfiction, luck usually plays a role in finding that
extraordinary work, the great read that keeps you spell-bound. But
now you can take the luck out of finding the best novels and
nonfiction with this continuously updated book guide, which is
crafted to steer you to ones that "hit the mark" every time. The
reading recommendations cover 116 literary genres-in fiction and
nonfiction-with a range as broad as American history and time
travel to self-help, the best biographies, and even zombies.
Selections include not only the classics and the best sellers, but
also lesser known genre fiction and the leading nonfiction penned
by the top authors in almost every major field. It also offers
selected excerpts in every literary genre. And, it's a fun read
that you'll enjoy on its own. FICTION and NONFICTION There are two
general categories among our must reads: The greatest novels and
the best nonfiction. There are over 100,000-words of informative
text about them. Please see the sample pages found in the "Look
Inside" feature on our Amazon page for a list of the over 100
fiction and nonfiction genres, encompassing over 1,000 titles you
should read before your own "final chapter." NONFICTION: There is a
reason that so much of the suggested readings in this category are
either best-selling works or the "classical treatments" of a
particular subject: the marketplace and the experts are notorious
for picking the leading books in the information world. It is,
after all, the foremost professionals in the field that usually
write them, and buy them. They usually possess some special
knowledge in choosing the most reliable information sources in
their areas of expertise, which means you have one of the most
respected voices in each nonfiction genre. Our experts have
identified them for you. FICTION: Big sales are not the only gauge
of worth, though our reading recommendations don't ignore the
bestsellers either; rather we look for authors with a knack for
story-telling as well as those that have perfected a particular
writing style. PERFECT FICTION is not just every great novelist's
goal; it was also the goal in selecting inclusions in this
guidebook to books. An experienced team of literary professionals
chose works that meet three important criteria found in only the
best fiction: 1.A story so good you don't want it to end
2.Unforgettable characters 3.Writing that hooks you on the first

"December 3-4, 1969. Keith Richards and Mick Jagger stood at the
same microphone at Muscle Shoals, lights dimmed, splitting a fifth
of bourbon, and simultaneously sang the melodies and harmonies on
the three songs that they had recorded over three days: "Brown
Sugar," "You Got to Move," and "Wild Horses." That's your rock 'n'
roll fantasy right there, pal. A six-piece band working in a tiny
converted coffin factory across from an Alabama graveyard, on an
eight-track recorder, with no computer editing or Autotune,
recorded three songs, representing 30 percent of one of the
greatest rock 'n' roll records of all time."
So tells Bill Janovitz of the making of the inimitable
triple-platinum album, "Sticky Fingers," which hit number one in
the US and the UK in 1971, skyrocketing the band to
superstardom.
To Bill, all artists reveal themselves through their work and the
Rolling Stones are no different: Each song exposes a little more of
their soul. In "Rocks Off, "Janovitz" "reveals the forces at work
behind the band's music by deconstructing their most representative
tunes from their incredible fifty years of record making. Written
by a Stones fanatic, this is a song-by-song chronicle that maps the
landmarks of the band's career while expanding on their recording
and personal history. Much like friends pouring over old records or
having a barroom argument over the merits of certain songs, the
book presents the musical leaps taken by the band and discusses how
the lyrical content both reflected and influenced popular culture.
The song choices are chronological and subjective; many of them are
the classic hits; however, the book digs deeper into beloved album
tracks and songs with unique stories behind them.
"Rocks Off "is the ultimate listening guide and thinking man's
companion that will spur you to dust off those old albums and
listen in with a newfound perspective on one of the most famous and
acclaimed rock 'n' roll bands of all time.

There is no doubt that local and regional history, considered by
many as a kind of minor historical study, has a pressing need for a
systematic inventory of its resources. This collection shows the
durability, the vividness, and the astonishing productivity of a
sector of history which is the stronghold of the history-lover
rather than the professional historian. The nature and content of
each book determines its selection. For each book included, the
compilers have weighed its contribution to local history and
regional history rather than the style in which it is
written-narrative, memoir, descriptive study, or novel. It is this
criterion of selection that has permitted the retention of several
general histories of a varied nature-Bouchette, Charlevoix,
Nicholas Denys, La Potherie, Lescarbot, Hanotaux, Sulte, etc.-
where local and regional life takes on a major importance for
reasons of order in history, method, or quite simply because local
life is the principal object of the study itself. The editors have
also retained certain works-those of George W. Brown, Arthur Buies,
George M. Grant, Blodwen Davies, etc.-because they are primarily
descriptive and contain numerous elements in which local history
blends with the manners and customs of the inhabitants of certain
regions. This bibliography is designed primarily for
historiographers who have until now paid little attention to local,
regional, or parochial history. It will also be invaluable for
librarians who suffer from the numerous difficulties involved in
the classification of such works. Since 1950, all works published
in Canada are, by virtue of the book deposit law, provided to the
National Library of Canada, and recorded in Canadiana.
This volume of Geographers Biobibliographical Studies brings
together essays on four Frenchmen, a Czech, and three Englishmen.
The lives of our subjects extend from the late Enlightenment and
the era of 'polite science' in Regency Britain to the first decade
of the 21st century. These geographers and their studies are linked
not only in their regional expertise - from Brazil, French
Indo-China to Scandinavia and South Africa - but also by their
commitment to the development of geography as a science and as a
discipline. Here, in different settings and at different times, we
can see how the lived experience of geographers' lives shaped the
contours of the subject.

This bibliography presents an interim survey of published material
about the Marines of the Revolutionary War.
In the main body of this bibliography will be found works relevant
to a study of the Great War in Britain on a range of aspects such
as the armed services, the civilian front, industry, politics,
propaganda, and the media during the years of the war. Cultural
aspects are covered by the inclusion of works on art, literature,
music, the cinema, and the theatre relating not only to the years
when the war was in progress but also to the years after the war
had ended. Some general works and works of relevance specifically
to the pre-war years are included in prefatory sections of the
bibliography as background material. An appendix of some general
and specialised research resources is provided for those interested
in discovering other material which could be of assistance in a
study of the Great War.

Bibliographies of local history are essential research tools for
historians, genealogists, and book collectors. This volume is an
attempt to bring together citations to all the books and pamphlets
dealing with New York State history at the local or community
level, which were published between 1900 and 1987; also included
are some of the more important local history publications published
prior to 1900, as well as a few works published as recently as
1989. It is not an attempt to compile a complete bibliography of
the state which would undoubtedly require several large volumes,
but rather, is directed more specifically to the needs of the local
history and genealogy researcher. Material pertaining to the
history of the major cities of the state has generally been
excluded. Periodical articles and manuscript materials have also
been excluded. About 2,500 publications are described in the
listings which are arranged by county and town. This revised and
enlarged edition updates the 1988 work with numerous additional
citations, well-annotated for informative and entertaining reading,
covering the following new subjects: Hudson Valley, Indians, maps,
northern and western New York, reference books which include a
substantial amount of New York material, Revolutionary War, Shakers
and books with statewide coverage.
Native North Americans have rich and diverse cultures and
traditions. However, many misconceptions, prejudices, and
stereotypes exist due to the lack of understanding and ignorance of
these cultures. It is important that children and adolescents learn
about and appreciate the invaluable contributions that North
American Native groups have made to American society. Equally
important is the availability of resources that accurately and
objectively portray the historical events that occurred when
European settlers displaced thousands of Native North Americans
from their ancestral homelands. In Native North Americans in
Literature for Youth, Alice Crosetto and Rajinder Garcha identify
hundreds of appropriate and quality resources, including books,
Internet sites, and media titles for K-12 students and educators.
Entries are subdivided into chapters covering geographic regions,
history, religions, social life, customs and traditions, nations,
oral tradition, biographies, and fiction. Additionally, there are
chapters for general reference resources, curricular resources for
educators, media, and Internet sites. Annotations provide complete
bibliographical descriptions of the entries, and each entry is
identified with the grade level for which it is best suited.
Reviews, awards, series, and URLs for supplemental online resources
are also included. Anyone-especially students, teachers,
librarians, and parents-interested in locating useful and accurate
resources regarding Native North Americans will find this reference
book a helpful and essential tool.
Have you ever wondered whether a movie you are watching was filmed
in San Francisco or the Bay Area? More than 600 movies, from
blockbuster features to lesser-known indies, have been entirely or
partially set in the region since 1927, when talkies made their
debut. This essential publication will satisfy your curiosity and
identify locations. Beyond the matter-of-fact location information,
this book tells the stories behind the films and about the sites
used. It also highlights those actors, directors, or technical
staff who originated from the Bay Area or have come to call it
home.
This volume contains the contents of George Kiraz's catalogue of
over 1300 people and places related to the Syriac tradition,
expanded to include Latin names and citations as well as references
to the Gorgias Encyclopedic Dictionary of the Syriac Heritage.
