Everybody loves the BFG. Now children can bring him to life!
Children will have a phizzwizardly good time - and their friends
won't believe their gogglers! David Wood has created seven short
plays to read and perform. With notes on simple staging, props and
costumes, the plays can be produced with the minimum of experience
and resources. Roald Dahl, the best-loved of children's writers,
was born in Wales of Norwegian parents. His books continue to be
bestsellers, despite his death in 1990, and worldwide booksales are
over 100 million!
Respect women, respect girls. Respect yourselves. Remember you are
everyone who's gone before you and you are nobody that has ever
been, so make it count, make it special, make a difference, make
people listen, love the women who have loved you and watch us make
the world move to a better place. For Layla, every day is a
battleground. The pay gap, the thigh gap, over-sexed pop and
selfies that are photoshopped - they're just part of the world she
lives in. But that world is about to change. While breaking out of
her bedroom - and with drama, comedy, poetry and music as her
weapons - Layla breaks down and makes sense of the realities,
difficulties and absurdities of teenage life in the UK today.
Collected from a bespoke national survey, the voices of a thousand
UK teens are brought to life in Layla. Their ambitions, concerns,
role-models and regrets are woven together by award-winning Sabrina
Mahfouz and theatre company Theatre Centre, offering a
hard-hitting, yet hopeful, story. Layla's Room received its world
premiere at Redbridge Drama Centre on 15 September 2016 in a
production by Theatre Centre. It is ideal for students and young
performers between 16 and 18 years old.
Four Greek Plays aims to introduce younger readers for the first
time to Greek tragedy through the medium of "Oedipus the King" and
"Antigone," and to comedy through Aristophanes' "Acharnians" and
"Peace." McLeish produces an adaptation of the plays which is
intended to remove many of the immediate barriers to understanding
by the beginner. They are written to be accessible for use in
schools and for performance, and contain no Greek text.

This collection brings together Philip Ridley's one-act plays for
young people, known as The Storyteller Sequence, ideal for
teenagers to either watch or perform. Karamazoo is a fifteen-minute
monologue about one of the coolest, most popular kids in the
school, whose recent increase in popularity is the direct result of
a character make-over following the death of a parent. A witty and
moving performance piece for the teenage actor. Fairytaleheart
features two fifteen-year-olds, Kirsty and Gideon, who meet for the
first time and come to terms with their broken families by sharing
their hopes, fears and past experiences - as well as stories - in a
derelict community centre. Sparkleshark tells of fourteen-year-old
Jake - a victim of bullying and other teenager's mockery - who has
to take refuge on the roof of a tower block in order to write his
stories. Moonfleece sees Curtis, a young right-wing activist,
arrange a meeting in a flat of a derelict tower block where he
lived as a child. But his older brother's ghost keeps haunting him.
Moonfleece is an intense and thrilling exploration of memory and
identity. Brokenville features an unknown disaster, which has left
seven characters with little knowledge of who they are or of what
has happened. As an old woman and five teenagers begin to act out
stories for a mute and frightened child, they begin to discover a
little of who they were and what they can be.
The unbearable Twits do not allow anyone to live in peace, but a
migrant bird and some monkeys teach them a lesson!
