This book includes more than 30 papers from the first FZU-OPU-NTOU Joint Symposium on Advanced Mechanical Science and Technology for the Industrial Revolution 4.0, held at Fuzhou University, China, in December 2016. The symposium was organized by Fuzhou University (FZU), Osaka Prefecture University (OPU) and National Taiwan Ocean University (NTOU). The authors include several professors from universities in China, Japan, and Taiwan as well as four distinguished invited professors from Canada, Korea, Japan, and Taiwan. The book covers all important aspects related to the 4.0 industrial revolution: robotics and mechatronics; sensors, measurements, and instrumentation; mechanical dynamics and controls; mechanical design; vehicle systems and technologies; fluid mechanics; monitoring and diagnosis, prognosis, and health management; advanced signal processing; and big data; all of which are subjects with great potential in the field of mechanical engineering.
to the Fundamental and Applied Catalysis Series Catalysis is important academically and industrially. It plays an essential role in the manufacture of a wide range of products, from gasoline and plastics to fertilizers and herbicides, which would otherwise be unobtainable or prohibitively expensive. There are few chemical-or oil-based material items in modem society that do not depend in some way on a catalytic stage in their manufacture. Apart from manu facturing processes, catalysis is finding other important and ever-increasing uses; for example, successful applications of catalysis in the control of pollution and its use in environmental control are certain to increase in the future. The commercial importance of catalysis and the diverse intellectual challenges of catalytic phenomena have stimulated study by a broad spectrum of scientists, including chemists, physicists, chemical engineers, and material scientists. Increas ing research activity over the years has brought deeper levels of understanding, and these have been associated with a continually growing amount of published material. As recently as sixty years ago, Rideal and Taylor could still treat the subject comprehensively in a single volume, but by the 1950s Emmett required six volumes, and no conventional multivolume text could now cover the whole of catalysis in any depth. In view of this situation, we felt there was a need for a collection of monographs, each one of which would deal at an advanced level with a selected topic, so as to build a catalysis reference library."
This book provides the detailed knowledge you need to successfully choose, install, and operate a milling machine in your home workshop. Lavishly illustrated with color photographs and diagrams, it will help you to understand which accessories are essential, and which can be postponed until your activity demands it. The usage of each machine and accessory is explained in detail for the vast majority of applications in an active shop. The real learning curve begins once your milling machine and its accessories are chosen and installed. Discover your options for holding the many diverse shapes and sizes of work pieces that will inevitably surface during your machine's life. This critical task is by far the most important part of learning to use the machine. Learn how to decide which method is best for any application-whether to use a vice or an angle plate, or mount the piece directly onto the worktable, or even produce a fixture specifically for the task. With the work piece set up and ready for machining, the book goes on to show you the right ways to cut metal and maintain your milling tools.
Presents a treatment that begins with an overview of the electronics design process and proceeds to examine the levels of electronic packaging and the fundamental issues in the development. It is both a handbook for practitioners and a text for use in teaching electronic packaging concepts, guidelines, and techniques.
In these pages is all the information that you-manager, engineer, or other technical professional-would need to select, size, and estimate "budget/study" level capital and annual costs for a variety of air pollution control equipment. This equipment includes wet scrubbers, carbon adsorbers, and other "add-on" devices. This book also deals with such nonstack controls as wet dust suppression systems and flue gas desulfurization systems. The costs are current (1988 or 1989 dollars) and are mainly presented in equational form for ease of computerization and updating. Clear, comprehensive equipment sizing procedures are also detailed. Finally, several detailed example problems are included to illustrate the sizing and costing procedures. This book is not just for technical personnel, however. The material is easy to grasp and use. Anyone with an air pollution control background can follow and apply the procedures and data herein. Using this book, air pollution control professionals can now develop sound, defensible (within +/-30%) cost estimates with a minimum of time and effort.

The fouling of heat exchangers, reactors and catalysts remains one of the most urgent problems facing the process industries. Over the past ten years there has been limited research and investigation into the underlying mechanisms which give rise to this problem. For convenience, particularly in heat exchanger technology, the mechanisms involved have been subdivided into different subject areas. It is often the situation that individuals or groups of workers have concentra ted efforts in one or two of these specialist areas and there is a need to integrate the ideas across the whole spectrum of the subject. In addition, topics such as adhesion and surface phenomena have not been properly taken into account up till now in the assessment of the fouling processes. For this reason it was considered essential that the recognised experts from around the world, who are actively concerned with research, development and design in the fieId, should meet and exchange ideas and experience. Such a meeting was held at Alvor, Portugal, in May 1987, sponsored by the NATO Advanced St dy Institutes Programme. In order to obtain a common basis for the work of the Advanced Study Institute, the whole technological field was reviewed right from the basic concepts to the frontiers of present knowledge. Each invited contributor was asked to make an overall presentation covering his or her area of expertise."
This book presents an authoritative progress report that will remain germane to the topic and prove to be a substantial inspiration to further progress. It is valuable to academic and industrial practitioners of the art and science of chemical reaction and reactor engineering.
"Ion exchange," as Dr. Robert Kunin has said, "is a unique technology since ft occupies a special place in at least three other scientific disciplines - polymer chemistry, polyelectrolytes and adsorption. " It may also lay claim to being one of the most widely used industrially. From its origins in water treatment and the sugar industry, through hydrometallurgical applications as diverse as the treatment of plating wastes and the tonnage production of uranium, to the present-day production of ultrapure water for the microelectronics industry, the recovery of valuable materials from sewage effluents and pollution control, the uses of ion exchange are legion. As a result, it is well-nigh impossible to prevent infiltration by the real world of even the most academic of conferences on the subject. It came as no surprise to the Scientific Board of the NATO Advanced Study Institute on "Mass Transfer & Kinetics of Ion Exchange" that one third of the lecturers, and one half of their advanced students, were from Industry, nor that the two round-table discussions, which specially featured industrial applications and future requirements, were well attended and enthusiastically debated.
This book, a survey of current practices in both planning and computer aids, is largely confined to space projections, block and detailed layout planning, material flow analysis, plan and elevation drawings-the core activities of most facilities planners.
This book is a guide to kinetic studies of reaction mechanisms. It
reviews conventional reactor types and data collection methods, and
introduces a new methodology for data collection using Temperature
Scanning Reactors (TSR). It provides a theoretical and practical
approach to temperature scanning (TS) methodology and supports a
revival of kinetic studies as a useful approach to the fundamental
understanding of chemical reaction mechanisms and the consequential
reaction kinetics.
The 1993 International Cryogenic Materials Conference (ICMC) was held at the Albuquer- que Convention Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico in conjunction with the Cryogenic Engi- neering Conference (CEC) on July 12-16. The interdependent subjects of the two conferences attracted more than eight hundred participants, who came to share the tatest advances in low- temperature materials science and technology. They also came for the important byproducts of the conferences: identification of new research areas, exploration of collaborative research possi- bilities, and the establishment and renewal of professional relationships. K. Theodore Hartwig (Texas A&M University), asChairman ofthe 1993 ICMC; T. Scott Kreilick (Hudson International Conductors), as Program Chairman; and thirteen other Program Committee members expertly arranged the ICMC sessions and activities. The contributions of the CEC board and its Conference Chairman Walter F. Stewart of the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) were centrat to the organization ofthe tenth CEC/ICMC, which was hosted by LANL. The local arrangements and management, under the skillful guidance of Jan C. Hull (LANL), were exemplary. Frederick Edeskuty (LANL) served as Exhibits Chairman, and L. Kim Nguyen (LANL), as Conference Support Liaison.

Ion implantation offers one of the best examples of a topic that starting from the basic research level has reached the high technology level within the framework of microelectronics. As the major or the unique procedure to selectively dope semiconductor materials for device fabrication, ion implantation takes advantage of the tremendous development of microelectronics and it evolves in a multidisciplinary frame. Physicists, chemists, materials sci entists, processing, device production, device design and ion beam engineers are all involved in this subject. The present monography deals with several aspects of ion implantation. The first chapter covers basic information on the physics of devices together with a brief description of the main trends in the field. The second chapter is devoted to ion im planters, including also high energy apparatus and a description of wafer charging and contaminants. Yield is a quite relevant is sue in the industrial surrounding and must be also discussed in the academic ambient. The slowing down of ions is treated in the third chapter both analytically and by numerical simulation meth ods. Channeling implants are described in some details in view of their relevance at the zero degree implants and of the available industrial parallel beam systems. Damage and its annealing are the key processes in ion implantation. Chapter four and five are dedicated to this extremely important subject." |
