Seaport Container Terminals (SCT) operate as central nodes in worldwide hub-and-spoke networks, and link ocean-going vessels with smaller feeder vessels, as well as with inbound and outbound hinterland transportation systems using road, rail, or inland waterways. This book is developed by focusing on the four issues: (1) product strategy of private brand; (2) pricing strategy of private brand; (3) channel strategy with private brand introduction; and (4) supply chain coordination with private brand introduction. Private brand (PB), also known as private label (PL) or store brand (SB), refers to a brand created and controlled by a retailer. In the 1960s and 1970s, private labels began to emerge in France and England. Although private label has grown rapidly worldwide, market share varies greatly from region to region. According to Nielsen's 2018 Global Private Label Report, the largest markets for private-label products are found primarily in the more mature European retail markets. In recent years, many large domestic retail enterprises have launched their own brand products. With the growth of e-commerce, some online retailers have also launched private-label goods. JD started to introduce its private brands in 2010, with annual sales of its private brand products reaching several hundred million yuan. However, at present, the market share of China's private label is only 1-3%, which still has a big gap compared with Europe and America.The main challenges to China's private label lie in private brand operations management. This unique book is positioned at the crossroads of strategic management and international business. Based on an in-depth literature review, the author empirically assesses the widely shared, implicit assumption that strategic management processes can be globally applied in a standardized, i.e., culture-free, manner. So far, a variety of tools have also been recommended but without incorporating cultural differences. As many organizations observe that this ethnocentric view is more an illusion than reality, strategic management research has started to focus on the cultural sensitivity of its theories, tools, and processes to provide practitioners in a multicultural setting with adequate know-how and tools. To foster long-term decision-making despite uncertainty, scenario planning is frequently applied by practitioners. Up until today, scenario planning has however gained little attention from the academic community. Through this book, the author presents a newly developed framework for strategic management that combines the cultural value scale to test the cultural sensitivity of the long-term planning tool called "scenario planning." The different process steps of scenario planning have been individually examined for their sensitivity toward the cultural dimensions of uncertainty avoidance and long-term orientation. The investigation is based on a unique, global set of management consultants working for a leading professional service firm. This volume represents the proceedings of the Second International Conference on Innovation through Knowledge Transfer, InnovationKT'2010, organised jointly by KES International and the Institute of Knowledge Transfer, and taking place in Coventry, UK on 7&8 December 2010. Featuring world-class invited speakers and contributions from a range of backgrounds and countries, the conference provided an excellent opportunity to disseminate, share and discuss the impact of university-business interaction through knowledge transfer in all its forms. There were two main motivations in initiating the Innovation through Knowledge Transfer series. The first aim was to provide the chance for publication on a subject where few opportunities exist already. The second motivation was to foster the development of a community from the diverse range of individuals practicing knowledge transfer. It is becoming clear that the delegates of the conference are drawn from a diverse community of practice. InnovationKT'2010 has succeeded in bringing together contributions from both the academic and practitioner sections of the knowledge transfer community. The programme contained seven invited keynote talks, 40 oral presentations grouped into eight sessions, and one interactive workshop. The proceedings contain 29 chapters drawn from this material. There were 91 registered delegates drawn from 10 countries of the world. The field of knowledge transfer is still immature, but these proceedings demonstrate that InnovationKT conference is making a significant contribution to its academic development. "

This book explores official statistics and their social function in modern societies. Digitisation and globalisation are creating completely new opportunities and risks, a context in which facts (can) play an enormously important part if they are produced with a quality that makes them credible and purpose-specific. In order for this to actually happen, official statistics must continue to actively pursue the modernisation of their working methods. This book is not about the technical and methodological challenges associated with digitisation and globalisation; rather, it focuses on statistical sociology, which scientifically deals with the peculiarities and pitfalls of governing-by-numbers, and assigns statistics a suitable position in the future informational ecosystem. Since 2007, the biennial International Conferences on Dynamics in Logistics (LDIC) offers researchers and practitioners from logistics, operations research, production, industrial and electrical engineering as well as from computer science an opportunity to meet and to discuss the latest developments in this particular research domain. From February 12th to 14th 2020 for the seventh time, LDIC 2020 is held in Bremen, Germany. Similar to its six predecessors, the Bremen Research Cluster for Dynamics in Logistics (LogDynamics) organizes this conference. The spectrum of topics reaches from the dynamic modeling, planning and control of processes over supply chain management and maritime logistics to innovative technologies and robotic applications for cyber-physical production and logistics systems. LDIC 2020 provides a forum for the discussion of advances in that matter. The conference program consists of three invited keynote speeches and 51 papers selected by a severe double-blind reviewing process. Within these proceedings all the papers are published. The yard block of a container terminal is the central point of synchronisation for asynchronous container flows between deep-sea vessels and transport to the hinterland. The structure of the block stipulates that containers are stacked on top of each other with only the topmost container directly accessible by a yard crane. This book describes a holistic and integrative approach to container handling in yard blocks to optimise productivity by minimising re-handling operations. The results provide insights for academic scholars as well as for experts from practical terminal planning and operations. The approach presented is two-fold: first, a theoretical foundation of the interdependencies in decision-making is established using mathematical programming. Secondly, operations involving uncertain container arrival information are examined on the basis of a simulation with a rigorous experimental design and statistical evaluation.
