Hakol Kol Yaakov: The Joel Roth Jubilee Volume contains articles
dedicated to Rabbi Joel Roth, written by colleagues and students.
Some are academic articles in the general area of Talmud and
Rabbinics, while others are rabbinic responsa that treat an issue
of contemporary Jewish law. These articles reflect the unique and
integrated voice and vision that Joel Roth has brought to the
American Jewish community.
This book is the diary of an Egyptian soldier of Armenian
descent who served the Egyptian Army during the critical years 1968
through 1972, when Egypt was making preparations for the 1973 war
with Israel. The book relates the details of his compulsory draft,
his various unforgettable experiences, and after serving more than
four years with no end in sight, his daring escape from the Army
and the country.
The story is the Author's first-hand description of daily life
in the Egyptian Army, his trials and tribulations with a variety of
circumstances and characters and close calls with Israeli planes at
the Suez Canal.
Finally it relates the nail-biting journey the Author took to
freedom, to safely arrive, with God's merciful intervention, in the
Promised Land, America.
Recent arguments surrounding the meaning and message of the
Qur'an often focus on whether or not it supports or exhorts
violence. Such arguments, though, tend to ignore the fact that the
scriptures found there speak to various aspects of life and living.
The Qur'anic Narrative attempts to show that the Qur'an has an
inspiring message that aims to enlighten the path of those who
embrace it and guides them through the journey of life. Exploring
various themes related to everyday experiences, Safi reveals the
meaning of the Qur'an with regard to issues of spirit, faith,
charity, patience, fasting, salvation, pride, charity, moral
discipline, and other relevant topics.
In an attempt to recapture the Islamic spirit promoted in the
Qur'an, this book offers an approach that speaks to areas of life
many people are concerned about. It pastes together a narrative
that is more consistent and more representative of the overall
Qur'anic message, which, the author contends, is ultimately one of
peace and hope. Safi places the Qur'an in context, too, by
examining its meaning to early recipients of the scriptures and its
place in that particular social and historical context. He
continues by updating that meaning for modern readers and
adherents, relating the intended meaning to an evolving human
audience and to contemporary experiences. The author contends that
extremist readings are misinterpretations and that those who may
view the Qur'an as a holy text that encourages, even demands,
violence are incorrect. Ultimately, readers will come away from
this work with a broader appreciation of the Qur'an and its
intended meaning and message.
Storm Clouds Gathering ...
In contrast to these busy first few weeks of establishing
back-to-school routines, as well as the uncertainty of medical
tests for Kjrsten, I reflected back on the quiet respite we'd had
over the past summer.
One of our favorite summer activities was to sit on the long,
covered front porch of our home and watch the storms as they rolled
in from the west across Clear Creek. We'd listen for the thunder
and see the lightning striking at the bottom of the hill as the
storm climbed upward and through the cornfield to the edge of our
yard. We were relieved as it rumbled noisily over the top of our
house without leaving any damage as it continued its steady march
to the east.
Little did we know what kind of storm was brewing for our
perfect little family.

miserable. She struggled and had crossed many roads to get away

heartaches were always a part of it. Together with their old
fashioned father that died in pain and a supportive gentle mother,
who became a victim of a troubled love characterized by family
disunity.
An inspiring and enlightening story of family values, the hard
times and the good times, interesting facts about heritage, and
social status. Seeking happiness on simple and adventurous lives
were among other interesting things. It is a story of romance,
humorous memories and great drama.
Covering secret societies, mysterious ancient traditions, and the
often-mistaken history of the world's religious symbols, this book
takes readers on a tour through the fascinating world of religious
symbolism and reveals the most mysterious and misunderstood facets
of religion. Hidden Religion: The Greatest Mysteries and Symbols of
the World's Religious Beliefs not only explores the history and
origins of widely recognizable symbols, like the Christian cross
and the Star of David, but also introduces readers to more obscure
symbols from religious traditions around the world-even defunct
ones like those of the ancient Aztec and Mayan societies. In
addition, the book discusses the "religious secrets" found in the
major religions, including secret societies of Christianity,
Judaism, Islam, and Buddhism. Containing more than 170 entries, the
encyclopedia is organized by religious category, such as Abrahamic,
East Asian, and African Diasporic religions, then alphabetically
within each category. Each entry is prefaced with a short
introduction that explains where and when the religious tradition
originated and describes the religion today. This information is
followed by an analysis of the historical development and use of
symbols along with an explanation of connections between symbols
used by different religions, such as shared astrological symbolism
in the form of moon, sun, or star motifs. Provides fascinating
historical and contextual information about religious traditions
and symbols Addresses the roots of some of today's most popular
superstitions and conspiratorial theories Focuses primarily on
religions that are dominant or are becoming widespread within the
United States, allowing students to gain a better understanding of
religion in American society and greater appreciation for cultural
diversity Develops a unique thesis about utilizing religious
archetypes to facilitate understanding of religious ritual and
organizations Includes a phonetic pronunciation guide with each
entry to help students become comfortable with unfamiliar
terminology
"Mind Bungee Jumping went through several titles before I settled
on this one. The title seems to fit what I was trying to accomplish
by writing this book. I am told that when you are bungee jumping
you are filled with anxiety, exhilaration, you get a rush and your
adrenalin starts pumping. It feels as if you are jumping into the
unknown, yet you are attached to reality. The rope or material that
keeps you from falling, also springs you back to reality and
ensures that your feet will eventually touch the ground. However,
the feeling of weightlessness, flying though the air, having no
worries and seeing the world from high above are the same feelings
I get from writing. Material included in this book sends the
message that your imagination is the one thing of beauty that you
can make individually yours and you can touch the rainbow.
This is a poetry book filled with inspirational messages that came
about as the author Phyllis Butler was trying to overcome her
doubts about life, self, love and relationships. Writing poems
helped her to gradually heal and change her focus from herself to
helping others by sending a message.
This book is a biblical approach to the recovery from obsessions.
The obsessions can be as minor as fishing too often or as major as
full blown addictions to drugs. The point is that Jesus Christ gave
us guidelines on how to moderate and on how to be healed when
necessary from these obsessions. The outline from Matthew in the
New Testament is where Jesus teaches us the format for recovery. It
is why he starts with being "poor in spirit" and ends in being
persecuted for your beliefs. This simple outline from Matthew 5:
1-12 is where basically all recovery programs have their origin,
and I have included in the back of the book a chapter titled "The
beatitudes and their correlation to the twelve steps." It is the
premise of this work to bring clarity to the truth that has always
been in God's Word. It is a work that reads well and was a pleasant
task to write. I hope you will enjoy as well as benefit from its
pages. Thank you for your consideration and for taking the time to
read this brief edit. Dennis Wright
