Landscapes of short stories is a reader-friendly anthology of 17 short stories chosen for the Grade 10 learner doing English as a Second Additional Language, and based on the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement. Many of the stories are from Africa, including South Africa, with others from around the world illustrating a rich storytelling heritage. Stories are divided according to theme: personal, humour, nature and science, crime, social issues, money matters, and politics and peace, and cover the vast metaphorical landscape of what it is to be human.
The obvious thing to do with this play is to read it as a text, just as you would if it were a short story or a novel. But it holds other possibilities as well. It could be read aloud, with four learners taking the different roles while the rest of the class follow along in their books as the audience, or the class could be divided into groups of four to do the play reading in groups so that everyone gets a chance to read aloud. It could even be staged, with auditions to choose the best cast, who will learn their parts by heart and perform for a wider audience than their classmates, with costumes and props on a set, just as the playwright intended. The play could also be the source of other activities in the classroom such as improvisation, role play and writing. Drama offers the possibility of enjoyment along with a growth in empathy, teamwork and language skills. We hope that this play will serve you in all those ways.
On a glorious summer's afternoon, young Alice happens upon a smartly dressed rabbit looking at his watch and muttering 'I'm too late!' This being an unexpected occurrence, she follows him down a nearby rabbit hole and falls in Wonderland. Lewis Carroll's timeless children's stories Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There are magically brought to life in this new adaptation by Adrian Mitchell, specially commissioned for a Christmas production by the RSC. The amazing Lobster Quadrille, the Queen of Hearts' infamous croquet match and the Mad Hatter's Tea Party are just a few of the remarkable events and characters in this enchanting play.

Hot Spot is typical Basil Dawkins. A hilarious but thought-provoking look at the vagaries of human relationships; forgiveness and second chances. Set against the backdrop of a threat to the characters' livelihood by a multinational food franchise, the play explores how the human spirit coupled with innovation triumphs over capricious market forces.
